Ok, let me start by saying I have used Nalgene products for years. They are a great company, are known for producing dependable, durable products. They definitely hit that mark with this bottle. I love the hard plastic construction of this bottle. They are very durable, and they hold up well. This is a bottle that you would not have to worry about breaking out in the trail. Trust me, if you took a fall hard enough to break this bottle, you have allot bigger things to worry about than a broken bottle!
Not only are these bottles durable, but they also have allot of utility. Its large mouth makes it ideal for adding items into it to mix with. You don't have to worry about spilling powders or other liquids when trying to add them to this bottle, because the large mouth makes that very easy.
The only downside to these bottles, is that I don't see them as being something super lightweight for someone who is really trying to watch the weight of their pack. However, that is not the intended purpose of these bottles. These bottles are made to be durable, and that's why they use a hard, heavy plastic. They accomplish this role well, and therefore I'm still giving this 5 stars.
Here is a hiking tip for you though if you want to cut weight. These Nalgene bottles weigh 6.4 ounces. There is a brand of bottled water called Smart Water that sells water in 1 liter bottles (slightly bigger than these Nalgenes). Smart Water bottles weigh about an ounce vs these Nalgene bottles at 6.4 ounces. That is a pretty substantial savings for weight. I would say buy the Nalgene to use for mixing but also use smart water bottles if you are worried about pack weight.
Overall, I highly recommend this product to you.
