This is the most wonderful pillow I have ever used. I’ve had feather pillows, cotton-filled, and I’ve used memory foam… cervical spine support pillows, “cooling” pillows, etc. nothing has given me support and comfort like this one has. I’ve slept so well since this arrived, and not much compares to a good night of sleep! It has a slight scent to it; such is expected of a great quality material and organic type of product. I think the smell is soothing, personally. The cotton case is amazing, and the filling is simply marvelous. I am very thankful that I stumbled across this! Though it’s the most I’ve paid for a pillow in my life, it was100% worth the investment; I believe in quality over quantity for sure. Also, I purchased the traditional size ($85); it’s small, but it’s perfect for a small head like mine. Ha! Five star company and product! ⭐️

3.0 out of 5 starsVery Well Made, But Too Hard For Me
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2021
I'm extremely picky about pillow comfort and the only pillows that I've ever liked are down. I thought that I'd try something less allergenic. (I have since been tested for allergies and am not allergic to down.)

The product, packaging, and delivery exceeded all expectations. Super nice organic cotton zippered cover and overall very finely made. You can infinitely adjust the buckwheat volume up or down. There is no odor either. It feels a little cooler too. Extremely mold-able.

The super firmness and kernel noise didn't work for me. I removed 2 cups of buckwheat to lower the loft. The pillow is not light in weight, if you wanted to carry it for some travel.

FYI, I usually sleep on my sides, but sometimes face down. Rarely on my back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazed at how my neck has improved in just one week
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2016
Size: 14"x26" + 1lb Extra HullsVerified Purchase
Updated Dec2016: Below I mentioned that I was surprised that I didn't wake up with a sore ear using this pillow. Well, eventually my ears did start complaining. It took about a month or two before I realized that I was not sleeping 8 hours a night anymore, as my sore ears would force me to get up earlier than usual. I also found it took longer to fall asleep as well. Eventually I gave in and cut open my previous "water pillow" (https://smile.amazon.com/Mediflow-1006-06-Original-Waterbase-Pillow/dp/B003J372NS/). This has the IDEAL soft cushy layer you can use to modify the Buckwheat pillow. Unlike most pillows which have little "nuggets" of material, the Waterbase Pillow has flat "sheets" of the softest fiber I've ever seen in a pillow. (The soft fiber is stacked liked layers of flaky pastry if that helps you visualize it.) So I took about a quarter of the fiber layers and placed them on top of one side of the buckwheet pillow, then encased this inside my heat-spreading pillow cover. MUCH better! The layer of softness doesn't distract from the effectiveness of the pillow; I fall asleep faster and sleep longer too. The water pillow is cheap enough to buy just to cut open for "spare parts", but it's also worth trying. (I liked it for about a year until I found that it didn't hold it's shape as the night went on). I sometimes still wake up with two tired ears, so I grab the small "dream" beady pillow I got at Bed Bath & Beyond (great for traveling with) and it's super soft for a final nap in the morning. Hope this helps anyone who had to give up on the Buckwheat Pillow if they found it too hard.

I bought the 15x26 pillow first. My husband tried it out and really liked it (and wanted to keep it for himself!). I tried it for a few nights, then bought the 15x23 size (which is perfect for me; I'm petite and I prefer the lighter weight if I need to move it around).

We both have neck and back issues, and we both visit a chiropractor monthly for maintenance. My neck causes problems with my right elbow constantly needing adjustment (inside of elbow, aka "golfers' elbow"). When my pinkie started developing Trigger Finger from the same condition, I searched for a new pillow. I've tried a bunch of them over the years; the water pillow being the best - until now.

So onto the review of this Buckwheat pillow: It took us both a few nights to get used to the crunchy noise, along with the relative hardness of the pillow's content. With normal pillows, I sometimes have problems with waking up with a sore ear if I lie on one side too long. So I was really surprised NOT to have a sore ear with the buckwheat pillow! We both find that after we shape it go under our necks, it helps if we then poke a little hole where our ear will fall. Because the pillow doesn't change shape with the weight of your head, it lasts that way for hours. (My husband seems to have a heavy head, and even the best foam pillows flatten during the night, so he loves that this keeps its shape.)

The BEST news is that my neck feels SO much better after just one week! My elbow pain faded, and then I got a huge crunch out of my elbow the night before my monthly adjustment. When I visited the chiro yesterday, he didn't have to adjust it at all! That is probably the first time in five years that it didn't need some tweak, and is a sign that my body is adjusting itself correctly. My trigger finger is also gone. It's a nice change not to have a niggling low-level pain all day...

I will add that we use a pillow cover designed to dissipate heat (I use one from Sleep Number). This adds a little cushiness, which takes the edge off the firmness and it also helps to keep the pillow itself clean. Then we put the pillowcase on top of that cover; both covers are easily washed.

Would I prefer a nice soft fluffy pillow? Of course (the water pillow is very soft). But not at the expense of waking up with a sore neck and all the problems that follow. I highly recommend anyone with neck/elbow issues to try this pillow out. It's not much more than a visit to a chiro after all.

PS. Another great investment is an inversion table. We bought a Teeter Hang-up last year, and I can pop my middle back once or twice a day as needed. Helps with maintaining my back between chiro visits. Wish I'd bought that years earlier too!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start for a small pillow.

Comes with a bow and a nice note! Thank you. Appears well made, about what you would expect. They give dimensions so shame on me - this is a small pillow about 40% the size of a twin. It is hard yet molds to your neck. I have severe bone spurs in two vertebrae and minor in a third. After two nights. 90 percent of pain is released. Downside is I roll over about 4 to 5 times a night. The pillow requires repositioning every time. Time will tell if the disruption of sleep is worth the pain relief. Worth a try if you suffer from neck pain. Wish it was just stated that this is not a regular size pillow. I think they use the word traditional- seems to obfuscate the reality. Still 4 stars - kudos for workmanship and presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you can swing the cost, I highly recommend this pillow. Just give it a try, if you don't like it you can always send it back

I wrestled for a long time on whether to buy this or not. It is exorbitantly expensive, but worth it. I'm a CPAP user and my regular down pillows were either too large, or too small. They'd press my mask straps into my face, and I could only sleep on my back with it on. I tried mypillow (Dont waste your time there) and was immediately disappointed. Someone at work recommended I try a buckwheat pillow and after reading many reviews I was settling on this one and two others. This was the most expensive but from what I was reading it was in the quality of the product. American made cotton twill, the hidden zipper doesn't really do anything for me, I could take it or leave it, but the extra hulls that came were awesome. When you open the box it's apparent that this product was made with care and you are getting what you pay for. I had to take some of the fill out of mine, but once I got it dialed in, my neck pain is gone, I can mold my pillow to allow me to sleep on my side or back with my mask on without any strap lines when I wake up, and I can even put on headphones and make a little indention so they aren't pressing into my ears. The biggest reason I chose this brand over a little more budget friendly one, was the thickness of the twill. This is thick enough to lay your head/face on without feeling the hulls through the pillow. The budget friendly required a pillow case or two to put some space between your face and the feel of the hulls. Sleep is very important for every aspect of your life and I highly recommend you try this to see if it helps you sleep. A final note, as others have said, this is a firm pillow. It is NOT down soft, but it's not a brick either. I just recommend anyone try it, the worst that can happen is you don't like it and send it back for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars So glad I took the chance - Really worked great for TMJ - and ZERO chemical smell or bugs with this great company!
Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2014
Size: 14"x26" + 1lb Extra HullsVerified Purchase
I can definitely see how these pillows aren't for everyone. I'm really glad I took a chance. I went with this company since they are chemical free, made in the USA, and customer reviews didn't mention a chemical smell or BUGS like other less expensive brands. I also took the advice of another reviewer and went with the larger size (the medium one- 26") and am really happy with it.

The first two nights I used as is before deciding to take some hulls out. Then I think I took too many out. After a night or two I added some back in and it feels good now. It does take getting used to as far as learning to adjust a little bit during the night. The sound doesn't bother me at all. I do have two additional organic pillow covers over top of the one it came with to help keep any moisture (okay, I drool...) from getting onto the hulls (using a waterproof material which is full of chemicals would just ruin the idea of using chemical free buckwheat to begin with) and a regular pillowcase over those. I don't think they muffle it too much but makes me feel better about dust coming through either way or moisture (drool) getting onto the hulls. The sound doesn't bother me but I also sleep with a blanket pulled up over my ear to muffle all the sounds (in addition to a sound machine) so I'm used to the feeling/sound of fabric rubbing against my ear. It sounds similar/

I have TMJ and was finally going to commit to spending all the money on getting a nightguard from my dentist. I got my pillow about 3 weeks before my dentist appointment and when I went to the appointment I realized I haven't had the TMJ issues I was having every morning before the pillow. I was waking up with my jaw so sore from clenching and really having to do a lot of stretches each morning on my neck and taking antiinflammatories occasionally on really bad mornings. I do see a chiropractor which helps for a little while but the pillow seems to really do it! No more waking up with a sore neck and jaw. There are still the occasional nights I don't fix it correctly during the night and I might wake up a little sore but no where near the way it was before.

I have a 17 month old who is starting to be interested in using a pillow and as staying chemical free is supoer important to me, I've already made a tiny 12x16 pillow case for her out of organic cotton and am planning to purchase the 2 lb pack of hulls from this company to have her have a starter pillow (since they're supposed to be pretty flat for little ones anyway). I'll definitely do several layers and add some zippers and snaps to ensure they won't be a choking hazard but I think it will be a great first pillow.

I will say it will probably be a pain to travel though. I can't imagine dragging this almost 5lb pillow on a plane ever so I don't think it will be good for travel unless you're driving.

Again, probably not for everyone, but for me, I'm really glad I took a chance and tried it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great decision

I absolutely love my pillow! I have had mine a little over a month. I had reservations based on previous failed expensive pillows and from some of the more negative reviews of buckwheat pillows. Now, I'm so glad I bit the bullet and purchased this pillow! My husband has decided to buy one too after trying mine. I have frequent neck problems, TMJ, and tight shoulders. This pillow has helped tremendously with those problems during sleep and so far, overall. I also have cartilage piercings on both ears that are less than one year old. I still sleep in my earrings for those piercings while they heal. I have not had any problems with pain or discomfort because the pillow very easily adjusts to your head. I am a side and stomach sleeper and I have been able to make little indents where my ears rest. If I turn over in the night, it's a quick shuffle and back to sleep unlike so many of my other crappy pillows. Personally, I wouldn't describe it as noisy. It does make noise, but I guess I'm use to my hair making a lot of scrunchy noise around my ears. I also used a down feather pillow growing up, which was heavy and firm, and became noisy over time as the feathers aged (this was an old pillow). I have never found a good replacement for it, until this pillow. On a bad night, I can shift the hulls around to suit what hurts and how I want to rest. On good nights, it's just a very good pillow. Unlike several other reviewers, I didn't really need time to adjust to the pillow- It was just what I needed. The description may sound odd, but if you're tempted to try one- Go Ahead! I have been so pleased! I also felt the 26 inch was a nice choice for me after I received it (worth the price), but I could have lived with the 23 inch as well. Just consider what you'll use as a pillow case if you do not purchase one from ComfyComfy. The craftsmanship of the pillow is wonderful and very sturdy. No odd smells. It was packaged very neatly and had personal touches of appreciation from the seller. I cannot brag enough on this company and their product. I am so pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful packaging and high quality product (so far)

I just received this and am doing more testing. Will update my review later. But I had to say the initial receipt of this pillow was awesome. The packaging is clean, thorough and thoughtful. It comes in a protective box then sewn into a heavy paper bag then wrapped again in a nice presentation paper and ribbon. It comes with a separate bag of extra buckwheat (about 860 grams extra) hills to customize the pillow with. The material of the pillow is thick, soft, natural feeing. it feels like high quality product. If you weren’t worried about cleaning or stain or didn’t want to match your bedding, I’d say you don’t even need a pillow case, that’s how nice it looks and feels.

The zipper is the only item that looks a little light duty. But we’ll see how it holds up.

So far I’m still tweaking the fill level of mine. But am hopeful. Definitely on the pricey side, even given the quality. But compared to other $100 pillows I think this is solid.

Will report more after more sleep testing!

UPDATE:
Really digging this pillow. I will say it’s not the most “user friendly” pillow. It takes some getting used to in terms finding the right amount of fill and nightly rearranging of the hulls to fit your head. But it conforms while being firm and supportive in a very unique way while sleeping cool.

I’ll say, don’t be afraid to remove some of the fill, or a lot of it. I had to remove almost half of what it shipped with to find the right pillow for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our favorite pillow.
Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021
Size: Traditional (14" x 21") With 1 lbs Extra HullsVerified Purchase
We have tried every pillow on the market and the buckwheat hull is the best for malleable adjustable support, zero heat retention and customization. This model comes with extra hulls and has a handy zipper so you can add or subtract hulls for your specific needs. The hulls do not escape or poke like the feathers of our down pillows (Ow!). It is not hot like the so-called "cool" memory foam and is more supportive than the down alternative and does not flatten (or "break" as the say). Of course buckwheat hulls and the thick cotton cover are Eco-friendly. The zipper is upholstery quality. Do not be deterred by the "traditional" size. It is all you need because of the unique design and filler. Use a couple of thin pillow cases to keep it clean. However you can completely empty the hulls into a clean vessel, wash the case and simply pour them back into the case after it dries. To prevent shrinkage when washing, use cold water, (no bleach) and hang dry. DO NOT WASH THE CASE WITH THE HULLS IN IT !!!! Good luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice pillow but not firm enough support for my damaged neck
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2023
Size: Traditional (14" x 21") With 1 lbs Extra HullsVerified Purchase
This was a very nice pillow. The materials and everything were fabulous. I loved that it was organic. It did not provide firm enough support for me, however. I have an extremely touchy neck. I have lots of arthritis, a reversed cervical curve, cervical dystonia, frequent migraines and tension headaches. A lot of my headaches come on at night so it’s very important for me to find the right pillow. While this was very nice and I’m sure it works well for a lot of people, it just did not provide me with enough firm support behind my neck.
