Crashed: A bad boy/good girl, damaged alpha, racing romance (Driven Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 14,427 ratings

When life crashes down around us, how hard are we willing to fight for the one thing we can’t live without, each other?

Life is full of moments.
Big moments.
Little moments.
And none of them are inconsequential.
Every single moment prepares you for that one instance that defines your life. You must overcome all your fears, confront the demons that chase you, and cleanse the poison that clings to your soul or you risk the chance of losing everything.

Mine started the minute Rylee fell out of that damn storage closet. She made me feel. Made me whole when all I thought I could ever be was incomplete. Became the lifeline I never knew I needed. Hell yes, she’s worth the fight…but how do you fight for someone you know you don’t deserve?

Love is full of ups and downs.
Heart stopping highs.
Soul shattering lows.
And none of them are insignificant.
Love is a racecourse of unexpected twists and turns that must be negotiated. You have to break down walls, learn to trust, and heal from your past in order to win. But sometimes it’s the expected that’s the hardest to hold on to.

Colton has healed and completed me, stolen my heart, and made me realize our love’s not predictable nor perfect—it’s bent. And bent’s okay. But when outside factors put our relationship to the test, what lengths will I have to go to prove to him that he’s worth the fight?

Whoever said love is patient and love is kind, never met the two of us. We know our love is worth it—have acknowledged that we were meant to be—but when our pasts crash into our future, will the repercussions make us stronger or break us apart?

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary romance novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines and damaged heroes, who we love to hate but can’t help to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs, sports practices, and figuring out how to navigate parenting teenagers (send more wine!). More often than not, she does all of this with her laptop in tow, and her mind daydreaming of the current hero she is writing.

Since publishing her first book on a whim in 2013, Kristy has sold over two million copies of her books across twenty different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over thirty times. Her Driven trilogy has been adapted for film and is available on the streaming platform Passionflix as well as Amazon.

The road thus far has not been easy for Rylee and Colton and Crashed isn’t without its roadblocks either. We’ve read about baggage, the miscommunications and misunderstandings, the nicknames, vindictive woman, love, friendships, and so much more. Now in Crashed it’s time to find out if Rylee and Colton will get that happily ever after and if Colton will find his way into being the man he deserves to be for himself and for Rylee.

It’s Rylee’s turn to reassure Colton and help him see that he is good enough for her and that he is everything she wants and needs. She has to help him see that love is not hateful and evil and that she is there to show him what pure unconditional love is, that he can accept from her and expect it. Rylee’s heart of gold vs. Colton’s damaged inner walls. My money is on Rylee’s heart.

Crashed is an emotional journey. We are invested, now in book 3 and are really routing for this couple and we are routing for Rylee’s boys. These boys have warmed our hearts over the past two books and the unconventional family is extremely heart warming, especially the more and more Colton interacts with them. He holds his own when Rylee has several young men looking out for her. Even when the man coming into the picture is basically these boys hero, they would do anything for her. We have also had a little side story within the story surrounding Zander and all I will say as to not give details away is I am pleased with where his story leads, even if the path there also is a rocky one.

I mentioned this is my review of Fueled but the supporting characters in the entire series are phenomenal. Colton’s family is amazing, especially his dad. He is that man you look to for guidance and is loving and patient. Haddie is fun and an amazing best friend. I won’t hide my girl crush for her. The relationship between Becks and Colton is hilarious, especially considering how guarded Colton is. And let’s us not forget Rylee’s boys whom I already mentioned. Each has their own unique personality and brings laughter, smiles, and tears to the reading experience.

Crashed picks up where Fueled left off and if your reading this hopefully you are up to date on the story from books 1-2 because I am about to drop a spoiler if your not this far in the series and all I could say is that I am so happy I was late to reading this series and each of Colton and Rylee’s story was already out so I didn’t have to wait and see what happens. At the end of Fueled Colton is in a severe race accident that leaves him fighting for his life in Crashed. I once lived in a happy fictional dream world where I believed no main character in these romance genres would die. When I found the genre it just didn’t seem like this would ever happen here. Yah, well I was wrong and certain authors showed me that and broke my heart. I used to read the hospital scenes like…”yah, okay like so and so is really going to die! “ Well since my first book where the main character does in fact die I am on pins and needles and already cursing the author worried they are going to break my heart. So for about the first 8 chapters I worried myself while reading, bit my nails and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Sorry Bromberg if you can feels us chanting curses while reading the hospitals scenes. Love you! Everything Rylee goes through in the hospital is intense and you just hope that Colton wakes up and that with his survival he has a romantic epiphany of where he wants his life with Rylee to go.

“Remember, life isn’t about how you survive the storm, but rather how you dance in the rain.”

I love this quote and I really have thought about tattooing it on myself. If you see me at a book event, one day it may really be there.

In crashed we finally see what is inside all the baggage Colton has been carrying around since he was a little boy. As a reader and an avid plot guesser I had a good idea about the skeletons in Colton’s closet. Hearing him talk about them, find comfort in Rylee and find a way to blow up that damn plane full of his bad memories was emotional. Your heart breaks for Colton as a boy but your so very proud of the man in the moment. It’s less often we see the type of demons Colton carries on his back in the male lead in the romance genre and this is another example of how Bromberg is anything but typical.

Towards the end of Crashed, Colton puts together a grand gesture for Rylee. It is one of the most thoughtful and handcrafted gestures I have read in the genre and I am so in love with the idea that Colton does this for two reasons. 1. Because, swoon! It’s so damn swoon worthy and romantic and damn Colton, it’s about time! And 2. Despite how in Love I am with Colton, he is very frustrating throughout the series. The issues he’s dealing with make him very “me, me, me.” And sometimes I just felt like he expected Rylee to deal with his crap because he had a 747 in tow. So it was beyond needed that when he finally gets his s*** together that he did something that is completely for Rylee and to show her how grateful he is that she put up with his s***. In my opinion it isn’t as common that we really fall in love with the female character. I hear so much chatter about how readers didn’t enjoy the female lead and only love or read the series for the male lead. Which if you think about it is pretty strange since the genre is mostly dominated by female authors and female readers but Rylee is that strong female lead that readers gravitate towards and she deserved for Colton to do something really special for her and he delivers, let me tell you!

The last thing I am going to talk about is the ending. Colton and Rylee’s story is wrapped up so well. It is emotional and ties in so many factors and it was really just perfect. I could not have asked for a better ending than what Bromberg delivers.

This series has kept me up at night and crashed into my mind throughout the day when I am away from kindle and into my heart with each turn of the page while reading. It is definitely something I believe you should read and I hope that you will. I know that I am beyond happy with the fictional ride I just took with the Driven Series.

I wish I had stopped to write reviews on each of these books as I finished them but truth be told, I was so captivated by the story that as soon as I finished Driven (at 3am on a work night), I immediately went to Amazon to buy Fueled, just to get to a good stopping point without a cliff hanger :) The same thing happened with Crashed after I read Fueled. I read all three books in less than 72 hours (and yes, I work a full-time job) because I just couldn't get enough of Rylee and Colton. I'm going to try to review the book with out giving anything away but I honestly don't remember which parts took place in which book since I basically read them as a continuum.

From the moment I met Rylee and Colton, I couldn't help but love each of them for different reasons. I think if more women like Rylee existed in the world it would be a better place - she's vibrant, strong, independent, loving, selfless, charitable, the list goes on and on. Then Ace stumbles in and you want to hate him for his roguish, playboy ways but when you find the broken little boy hidden inside you can't help but want to hug him and beg Rylee to find a way to heal him. These characters are well so well developed it makes me wonder if they are actual friends of the author - there are just too many intimate details hidden in their psyche and I mean that in the most phenomenal way. I love the sub characters - Beckett and Haddie, because everyone needs a wingman that will be honest enough to tell you what you don't want to hear and aren't sure you can handle. I absolutely deplore Tawny but that's what makes the writing so great - I have known women like this and she is the definition of catty, manipulative, and jealous - ugh, thinking about her makes my blood boil. Each character imparts a strong reaction, compelling feelings, you either identify with them or instantly hate them and the author only furthers those connections through each book.

The plot - it's heartbreaking, loving, hurtful, faithful, torturous, fantastical, amazing, crushing. It's a roller coaster but with every delicious rise, fall, twist, and turn, the reader is taken to a new level. So often books trivialize the affects of abuse, acting as though a woman can "fix" a broken man in three to four weeks, when the truth is, if it every happens, it's a slow process to heal childhood demons, it's painful, it's not graceful, and it sure as hell doesn't happen over night. If people have break throughs they can be devastating or beautiful - both of which you, as the reader, experience with Rylee and Colton both. The strength it takes for two people to fight through the turmoil of their pasts is almost suffocating but Bromberg delivered it flawlessly acknowledging the mistakes of the hero and heroine and I love that neither of them are perfect.

This trilogy is so well thought out, so well developed, characters are deep, and the story is poignant. It spans roughly 12 years of time enabling the reader to see just how far all of the characters come, what they over come, and how they begin to "race". I can't say enough good things about the darkness, the light, and the "blur" I was caught up in engaging with Ry and Ace.

This was the best book of the trilogy and a fantastic conclusion. This book literally took me on an emotional journey. One minute I was smiling, next minute I had tears running down my face. These characters will definitely remain with me for quite some time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incrível conclusão para a série
Reviewed in Brazil on January 20, 2015

If I could rate a book higher than 5 then Crashed is that book. 5++, this is by far the best series I have ever read and Kristy gave us everything we wanted for Rylee and Colton in Crashed. She is such a gifted writer and story teller. There were tears- heartbreaking ones, ones full of joy and tears of laughter, you get it all with this story. It's a wonderful story of their journey as they come out stronger together each time life throws angst their way....and 2 epilogues, just icing on the cake. Best conclusion, this is a keeper of a series. Way to go Kristy.
