Editorial Reviews
After a four year hiatus, Grammy Award-nominated, multiplatinum hard rock titans Disturbed have announced their return with their sixth studio album, entitled Immortalized, to be released August 21 through Reprise Records and is available for pre-order everywhere. Lead single "The Vengeful One" is out now, along with the accompanying animated video from award-winning filmmaker Phil Mucci. The upcoming release follows 2010's gold-certified Asylum, Disturbed's fourth consecutive #1 on the Billboard Top 200, and the group's subsequent four-year hiatus, which gave members David Draiman [vocals], Dan Donegan [guitar], Mike Wengren [drums], and John Moyer [bass] the necessary reprieve to make this imminent and deliberate return.

When a friend shared the video to The Sound Of Silence, a cover from the 1964 classic by Simon and Garfunkle it brought me a renewed love of music not felt in a while. But I digress.
MP3:
Immediately after viewing the video I had to have that song. I purchased the CD with the Amazon MP3 download. Overall I am not an MP3 fan but in a pinch it can provide a fix for an aural craving. I loaded the album in it entirety on to an Astell & Kern (one of the best players I have ever had) and jumped to my then favorite track. The MP3 quality was fair, a little rich on the bottom end and some of the higher end was a little too brilliant on songs such as The Light and Never Wrong, but overall not bad. I noticed many times when Mr. Draiman’s voice lost the projection and power he is known for due to what I now believe is due to the MP3 compression.
CD/Hi-Rez:
I normally do not lump the two together, but the Hi-Rez is only sampled at 48/24 which was somewhat of a disappointment. As expected, some of the thumpy and hot areas experienced with the MP3 were not as evident. The sound was loud, well balanced and slightly over-mixed. David Draiman’s voiced seemed to float at a slight left/center projection. The band had a nice depth overall with a notable pleasant mix on The Sound Of Silence. I really heard no difference between the two formats in either the music studio or on the A&K. This is a quality format as most would expect.
Vinyl:
The press is not 180/200 gram. This statement alone may turn an audiophile to FLAC or CD and that would be a shame. In a short comparison to other recent vinyl pressings, “Immortalized” stands far and above others I have enjoyed, even those purported high quality at 12”/45RPM. No warble of economy vinyl here. I won’t go into equipment such as stylus and amps as this is a review of the press so all things are equal here.
The 3 sided press starts strong with a loud and crackly intro that was expected, but if you were not familiar the tracks it would be enough to make you pull a groin muscle trying to save your stylus. Well done if this was intentional to freak out those of us that spend more on a stylus than a year’s worth of boutique coffee. Other than the aforementioned, the cleaned vinyl has no perceptible hiss or crackle in any area of the 3 sides.
The issues mentioned previously with other formats such as the float on the vocals, over produced bass and hot highs are absent. David’s voice is absolute center at about a 30 degree upward angle. I found this particularly pleasing on The Sound Of Silence. The piano is left stage at about 15 feet and the orchestral section is well balanced with the strings center/left at about 20 feet. Guitar projects well above the stage, almost as if from the rafters. The vocals are clear, powerful and without perceptible distortion. Almost every breath taken is audible giving the track an almost surreal aspect.
Other cuts are have their own strengths depending on listening preference. This is Disturbed and my personal opinion is anything less than -3db is pointless but can be enjoyed on this well done press.

Molto buoni voce e batteria, davvero coinvolgenti..
La registrazione è ottima e la confezione in digipack.
Un album da non perdere.
