Ready for You: A Small Town Second Chance Romance (The Ready Series Book 4) Kindle Edition
A lifetime ago, he was my world. But then I ran, and swore I’d never return.
Never is a long time.
Growing up, it was never a matter of if when it came to Garrett Finnegan-- but when. From the moment I met him, I knew I’d met my perfect match. My soulmate.
In a split second decision, however, I let that perfectly paved future of ours slip away, and I said goodbye with nothing more than a hastily written note, stained with my tears.
It’s been eight years since I’ve been back.
Eight years since I’ve faced the consequences of that decision.
Eight years since I’ve felt his lips on mine.
They say everyone deserves a second chance, but how could I seek forgiveness knowing the truth of what happened all those years ago will only destroy us in the end?

The book starts with a flashback to graduation day when all was right in Garrett’s world, he and Mia were together and they had big plans for their future and the next day they were going to tell their families what was going on but then Mia walked away and 8 years later she still hasn’t come back. Since then Garrett’s whole world seemingly fell apart and he became barely a shell of the man he once was. Over the years he thinks he sees Mia many times over when he spots a brunette in a crowd, but none of them were her, then one day he sees a woman at the Farmer’s Market and calls her name and is shocked to see that it’s actually her and that she’s returned home. Mia isn’t sure what drew her back home but once she sees Garrett again it’s clear that things are far from over between them.
From here we are taken on a wonderful and at times heartbreaking journey of forgiveness and trying to understand the events of the past so that they can start to build a future. It was great seeing the transformation of Garrett from the shell he had become back to the awesome man that he truly was. I loved when he kept showing up at Mia’s house with offers to help her home renovations because he couldn’t stay away from her even though he was still mad at her for leaving. And his possessive/jealous streak was pretty hot.
I love that the story, as all of her books have been, were told from both POV’s so as the layers of what really happened were revealed you got to see and feel both of their reactions. This has been one of my favorite things about this series, it really allows you to relate and connect with both characters. I could feel Mia’s regret and sadness over what she did and the guilt she’s carried for the past 8 yrs and I felt every bit of Garrett’s pain and anger and then his understanding as he learned the truth. And I felt both of their love for one another, the love between the two was always there despite everything that had happened or would happen. I never doubted that for a second.
The flashbacks to their relationship as teenagers and to certain parts of their time apart was also a nice touch. It helped fill in the gaps and give you more perspective without spending tons of time on it. And of course I LOVED seeing Leah, Declan, Clare, Logan and their respective children make appearances. The Finnegan clan (with all of their “adopted” members) is seriously the most awesome book family I’ve ever read about. They are so warm and accepting and loving, you wished that you belonged to them! I loved when they all got together and I had to laugh during Garrett’s disastrous housewarming party, it was all so totally ‘them’ (and if you’ve read the books you’ll understand what I mean).
I was warned to keep the tissues handy during this book and that wasn’t a lie, I was totally caught off guard at one point and found the tears streaming down my face and then I found myself tearing up with happy tears at the end. This was another beautifully written book and I can’t wait for the next installment, I think Liv is going to have her hands full with her new neighbor!
While these books can all be read as standalones, I totally recommend reading them in order for the full effect so you can grow to love this crew as much as I do!
I loved Garrett the hero for many reasons. For one, he never stopped loving Mia, the h, even during their 8 year separation. She was his life and was just existing until she returned to him. Also, he was jealous and possessive. Although it is not PC, I love that in a hero. I liked that the author had both of them with other people during the separation, not just him. My preference is always the H and h are never with other people including during a long separation. I understand however that it is not realistic. So if one of them is with other people, then I want both of them to be. It really irritates me with an author has the H seeking others during the separation but the h never does. Also I liked that Garrett was not a manhoe, at any time. If he had his wish, he would have only been with Mia. There was a lot of chemistry between them and just the right number of hot smex scenes; not too many and not too few. The only thing I wish was different was the book seemed to drag on after the climax. I thought if it was reduced by 50 pages then it would have been better. However, I enjoyed reading the epilogue. It was nice to see how happy they were in the future.
This book had me all over the place- crying, laughing and deep, deeeeeep sighing. What happens when your first love is the one? Even when they were young Garrett and Mia were good together. Sweet, loving and best friends. When they are forced apart- bad choices, fear and sadness- they both just stop. Neither are able to heal, mainly due to them both needing the other one. But the past may be too big for either of them to overcome.
Having to move past all of the pain, while dealing with their current world- get your tissues ready. The cemetery, Garrett and Clare’s dad, Aidan (grrrr) and the secrets that have become the reality of Mia’s life- just so much.
The attraction is incredible, even with both of them trying to be only friends…yeah right.
Both Mia and Garrett are genuine, flawed characters. Both have made mistakes, but trying to find their way forward, hopefully together.
Love that Declan is the voice of reason- after food of course!
And the Finnegan family wins again- bringing Mia into the fold!
This series just gets better and better. The character development is perfect. The writing flows and takes the reader along on an emotional journey that is honest and painful, but so damn rewarding. Second chance at first love, reuniting with your other half, healing and finding forgiveness. Getting back to where you belong, after too many detours, just beautiful.

I have really enjoyed getting to know the gang.
So we spend some more time with Garrett and learn about why he was such a workaholic, and why he did not seem to want to settle down.
He would go all quiet when anyone would mention his old girlfriend - Mia.
This book starts fairly soon after Leah and Declan's book.
Garrett has thought about is old girlfriend, who just disappeared after their graduation. We begin to learn more about them both as a couple.
So we get to meet Mia, the girl that Garrett claims up about whenever her name is mentioned.
Mia comes home to Virginia, after being away for 8 years. She ran; after her graduation, we learn that her parents were both very self centrered and selfish, and that Mia was always in the way, they were very unsupportive.
So the reunion, not a sweet heartfelt moment, but one of shock and surprise. Both not really believing that the other was really there.
Mia sees Garrett with a young boy and a blonde lady with another baby! instantly thinking he had moved on and found himself a wife and had children.
Garrett calls to her, and they have a very brief and uncomfortable chat.
The unexpected meeting opens up all the old feelings, but laced with anger.
They start to get reacquainted, getting to know each other, things move along nicely then BAM! something from the pat opens up old wounds causing them to cool it.
I did want to bash them both upside the head! as they didn't speak about what had happened, when you thought they were going to open up and talk, anger and frustration would take over, mainly from Garrett.
Mia was keeping a lot of the truths secret, including why she came back; with the help of Garrett's Mom and Leah they begin to discover what happened, Mia made choices under duress.
She spent the last 8 years feeling very guilty.
They have a lot of false starts, with Garrett always walking away but he is also the one to make contact again.
When Garrett's Dad dies, the first person he calls is Mia and from that point things seem to move along at a slow pace, but in the right direction.
As throughout when you let your heart believe this is it! J.L.Berg throws another curveball. Oh my aching heart - up and down!
Then Aiden, who we all think is Mia's boss arrives at her home, we learn his true identity, again Garrett takes off.
After this Mia seems to realise she needs help, and with Garrett's Mom by her side she is able to put some ghosts, then works on getting Garrett back.
Phew! my heart was smashed into smithereens, and slowly you put it back together piece by piece.
This was a story full of drams, angst but overflowing with love.
A second chance romance, which kept you turning the pages, wishing that they get their happy ever after.
The epilogue was really lovely, their love and happiness really shone through, really pleased for them both.
Can't wait for Liv's story.
