In this creepy and dark-humored anthology consisting of a dozen or so short-fiction pieces and the Novella, “A Pumpkins’ Halloween” you will be catapulted back into the world you remember as a child where ghosts, vampires, zombies, all kinds of boogeymen were real. You will also experience a new form of terror as an adult in reading these stories because many of the villains that these tales encompass could be easily pulled right out of the headlines.
Such stories in this book include:

Damnedborough Radio 104.1 am: Rick addicted to collecting junk brings home a radio that broadcasts the voice of a demon.
Exit 34: A woman recounts the experience of a time when she was young and on vacation with her family when they stopped off at a restaurant where you might end up on the menu.
A Halloween Story: A man at the end of his rope experiences a drunken Halloween.
Cold Mutton Soup: Mike and Jim discover resurrecting the dead may not be all that they thought it would be.
Glenn and Death: Loser in life, Glenn Oliver, finds himself accompanied by the grim reaper to a party in the afterlife that Glenn may not be ready for.
A Pumpkins’ Halloween: A novella which focuses on five jack-o'-lanterns taking turns telling scary stories on Halloween as they watch passerby trick-or-treaters shuffle past them on their fun-filled evening.
And, many more stories... thirteen in all.

About the author

About me? I'm a book fanatic, love to write and being in the forest. Peace and quiet may very well be my favorite things on earth. I also have a dog Tipper, who pees on everything and I don't believe a word that people say if they have the moniker, "Expert" attached to their name. My goldfish, Milli, recently died. Burials at sea are always tough. And, I still haven't ever been able to figure out how high is "up"? I know for a fact that it's impossible to hate pizza and nachos. And, I also don't know if I'll ever truly get author bios. If an author's life was so interesting that people are dying to know about it, then why do you think we authors would spend all day writing fiction? Want to know anything else? Just ask, I'll probably just be thinking about french fried potaters anyway. MMMM-HMM

It is profane and has cursing, but not overly much, and it never really dips too far into the pool of grotesqueries. I enjoyed reading about Jack-O-Lanterns telling stories to each other about Halloween while trick-or-treaters went on their merry way, but I think my favorite story was about wondering what's in the food.
Everyone has had an experience where they are about to tuck into a meal and suddenly it occurs to them that what they are about to eat doesn't look entirely appetizing, or doesn't necessarily look how we might have expected. This can be worrisome for some, and this story really drives this fear home in a frightening way!
Creepy sums it all up pretty well, and if you're looking for a frightful way to spend a few nights, then this might be just what you're looking for! Highly Recommended!
The selection here is all over the place. Zombies, Check. Super evil villains. Check. Creepy pumpkins. Check. Possessed radios. Check. The list goes on. These would make some super eerie television episodes.
If you’re at all squeamish, brace yourself, as many of these even had me cringing, and that’s saying something. But, there’s also stories that have you pulling for the monstrous character’s. They not be human any longer, but they deserve their own brand of vengeance for what befell them.
The author warns that these are not meant for young kids. There’s adult themes, with the language and events that come with that. And he wasn’t kidding. While a few of these were a bit too graphic and warped for my taste, I could appreciate the author’s imagination when penning many of them. I’d only recommend this to true fans of dark, twisted horror.
But in truth this book is primarily about isolation, anger and mental illness. The majority of the protagonists are discontent with their situations, frustrated that their lives did not go as planned or angry at the world around them. Their grievances manifests in bizarre, often supernatural phantasms: A demonic radio that draws out a man’s inner demons; an underworld party where even the dead are disgusted and irritated by the protagonist’s antics; a reanimated female corpse who will not play the willing sex doll her ressurectors desire. Sometimes the darkness manifests in more earthly ways, such as an abused teenager’s brutal revenge on his tormentors, or a priest's murderous defense of his faith.
I was surprised by this theme at first since, as I’ve said, the title and first story led me to believe this would be an anthology of more traditional spooky stories. But ultimately I found the book-ending of the first and last stories (more on the latter in a bit) alongside these macabre tales of the monsters of the human psyche to be an interesting juxtaposition. It reminds me of old EC Horror comics like Tales from the Crypt, Haunt of Fear, Shock SuspenStories and so on, with their dark-humored hosts leading us into worlds of human nightmares that draw more from the well of Edgar Alan Poe and his Telltale Heart than Ray Bradbury and his Halloween Tree.
Like those old EC comics, many of the tales in Autumn Harvest feature a dark, fitting punishment for their protagonists sins. Others are merely hellish twists of fate that would certainly give the Cryptkeeper a giggle. Though the graphic gore (and be warned, it can get pretty stomach-churning), profuse swearing and adult themes in several stories are more akin to the HBO TV incarnation than the classic comics. I admit I personally found the gore excessive and distracting at times, but anyone who is a fan of Eli Roth or Takashi Miike will certainly appreciate Mr. Kasniak’s style.
The anthology is capped off by an, at first, lighter and more fanciful bit of Halloween atmosphere in the form of a chorus of jack-o-lanterns telling scary stories. Though even here the tales veer into gore and adult fears, which is made all the more shocking by their whimsical, child-like pumpkin narrators. Which, as I realized upon reflection, is a nice little denouement to the book as a whole.
The only major critique I have of this anthology is that it could use a few more proofreads. There are a couple of distracting errors in word choice and spelling, and a few times when the tense switches incorrectly from present to past to past perfect. Beyond that, though, this is an interesting read for those who like the darker, all too human side of horror.

Loved these stories though. Just the right length, and pace. Look forward to more short stories from this author.
