Not surprisingly, it arrived shaving sharp.
The wire clip holds it positively in place but the profile is such that it doesn't catch on things.
Best of all is the weight. It is light as a feather. I can carry it in dress slacks or suit pants and never notice it is there. (The coin pocket of my dress pants keeps it in a vertical position for ready availability and also to prevent printing.) The light weight will make it much more pleasant to carry with shorts, too.
I own a number of knives but this is my most versatile. It will be equally at home in shorts, jeans or dress pants. The blade shape is appropriate for the widest range of cutting tasks. The full flat grind should be great for slicing.
The G10 handle version would logically be stronger, and I may get one someday, but this FRCP handle really doesn't strike me as giving up anything in the way of ruggedness.
Some people don't like a pinned handle, but from what I've seen this knife benefits from it. The CBBL has a pretty strong coil, and I'd imagine it would be very difficult to put it back in place if you were able to take the knife apart. With some cotton swabs and toothpicks you can clean out the handle easily - I don't mind that there's a backspacer, because it adds more strength to the handle, and I find a "full" handle easier on the hands. The knife is light enough that you can wear it and forget you have it until you need it. I love the CBBL of the Manix 2 much more than lockbar knives because you can easily open the Manix 2 with some centrifugal force. You need to pull back the lock to do this easily, but one thing I didn't know is that you can actually wave the blade open with enough force! The detent of the CBBL is strong enough for me to feel safe carrying it tip up (the only way you can carry it with this clip). The wire clip is great, no deformation even after wearing it on a thick belt for a few weeks.
The lock is fully ambidextrous, but I've found it takes a while to get used to the cage for the ball bearing. You'll probably develop a callous on the index finger and thumb because of how much resistance there is to the coil, but that just adds to how much I trust the lock. There are torx screws on both sides of the pivot for the blade, unlike most knives I've seen. The texture of the handle is similar to the lightweight Spyderco Enduras and Delicas, but the handles of those knives are made of fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN), this handle is made of fiberglass reinforced co-polymer (FRCP). Running my fingernail on the spine of the handle I get a feeling that FRCP is a smoother material than FRN. The FRCP can be bent more in the middle of the handle than the FRN of my Endura, but the Endura has steel liners. I wouldn't worry too much about the strength of the handles, I've found they're quite strong, and most stress you exert will be on the pivot.
If you're in the market for a new folder I recommend this more than an Endura4. Check out other reviews online for more info, thanks for reading!
