The cards were stacked against him from the moment of his birth. But he did not acquiesce to the hand he was dealt. Junkie Witness is more than a poetic memoir that illustrates Alexes Johnson’s chaotic young life; it’s a survivor’s story. His book is proof that no matter how your story begins; only you can dictate the journey.

This blew me away! For many years I worked as a psychiatric nurse with patients who had co-occurring addiction and mental illnesses. The insight that the author has, is mind-boggling. Everyone connected with addiction needs to read this.

Alexis Johnson is a very good friend of mine! I am honored to know him and get to see his creativity come out in so many ways! He turned his childhood struggle into a work of art, and was able to b open about his life! He is a good man, Father, and friend!

Alexes Johnson shares his life-hood memories as a kid living against all odds as he watches his mother use drugs. Alexes does the best he can to survive as he quickly learns the seriousness of his situation but is strong enough for his only mother while roaming the streets of NYC to get her next fix. This is a book about his life, his fears, his nightmares, but a story we all have become accustom to hearing on the news. This book is real, a book of poems, and journals about an innocent kid caught in the moment of darkness. This a powerful read and one you'll never put down....

Dark, evocative prose. Truthful soul baring without slipping into maudlin self pity. A man looking at his life and feelings thru a childs eyes. And finally forgiving if not understanding what happend fully, or why. Just knowing that you loved your Mom no matter what. You can forgive yourself for not being able to save her. Most of all, forgive her for not being able to mother you. This book shows us the power of the written word and the mystery and the history behind your friends eyes.

Right off the bat Johnson submerges you deep into his troubled childhood, with no reservations or apologies. The direct and heartfelt viewpoint is very refreshing, and the author manages to convey a sense of awareness and emotion in his writing that will keep you baited from beginning to end. definitely recommended!

I highly recommend this book, especially if you know an addict or their family members. This book would be an incredible addition to any recovery program, or youth program.
