    Product Description

    Product Description

Leading the way to the ultimate image quality, the X100s features the new APS-C 16M X-Trans CMOS II Sensor & EXR Processor II. X-Trans CMOS II incorporates an original color filter array with a highly random pattern, eliminating the need for an optical low-pass filter (OLPF). These filters are used in conventional systems to inhibit moiré at the expense of resolution. The X-Trans CMOS II array lets the sensor capture unfiltered light from the lens, achieving an unprecedented level of resolution. Also the unique integration of phase detection pixels in the array contributes to the dramatic leap in AF speed. Fujinon 23mm F2 fixed focal length lens, quality without compromise was the goal when the FUJIFILM X100S was being developed. While featuring the generous brightness of a maximum F2 aperture, the large-diameter rear lens group is integrated into the body for an ultra-slim profile. In addition, the optimization of the sensor for this special lens fully exploits the advantage of a fixed focal length lens for superior edge-to-edge image quality. The new Hybrid Viewfinder offers expanded freedom in a range of challenging shooting conditions. When you want to view the subject with maximum clarity or keep shutter time lag to a minimum, the Optical Viewfinder (OVF) impresses with stunning optical quality. For confirmation of focus, exposure, white balance and depth of field while shooting the scene, just move the lever to Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) featuring an integrated 2,360K LCD. Using the power of the phase detection pixels integrated in the X-Trans CMOS II sensor, Digital Split Image helps you manually focus your shot with greater precision. While viewing the split image displayed in the LCD monitor or EVF, you can manually adjust for pinpoint focus, especially helpful when working with an open aperture or macro shooting. Focus Peak Highlight For pinpoint manual focusing highlights high contrast areas of your subject for smoother and more accurate focusing.

Not for the faint at (photography) heart. This beast of a camera needs to be tamed. If you want to make pictures, rather than take pictures by lifting your camera and snapping what you see, this might be the camera for you. For me it's a breath of fresh air to use again a rangefinder style camera and think about what I want to create. Yes, it will slow you down, but with some ingenuity you can pre focus (zone focus) the lens if shooting from the hip is what you want in certain circumstances.
It's not the perfect camera for all that money, but it comes close enough, and if you can snap one up used, but like new, as I did for half the cost of a new one, probably because the new model T had just been released, it's quite a bargain. I studied the T, but decided that paying double for not that much more in features wasn't worth it and I haven't regretted it. The images are nothing short of perfect, but because of its beastly nature they don't always come out as planned or because of lack of planning.
I take full responsibility for that and try to improve.
My favorite setting has quickly become using either the OVF, or EVF, RAW+JPEG, back-button focus, FN button for custom settings, Aperture preferred, shutter on auto (sometimes reversed, based on circumstances). I augmented the chrome version camera with a black thumb grip, black soft focus button (I'm still ambivalent about), and a sturdy Fotasy lens shade in black because the silver rarely matches.
If you are serious about your photography and can get beyond looking at this Leica lookalike as a fashion accessory you'll find you have invested in a tool worthy of a pro. In fact, several pro's have declared their dedication to this camera so you'll be in good company. Enjoy!

This camera is no longer being supported by FujiFilm. Why does this matter?
I had this camera for a year, and I had a firmware issue (literally just woke up one day and the camera didn't turn on). I called FujiFilm and they LITERALLY told me that it's their company policy to no longer support, repair or make parts for older models. Yes, this means that even if you buy the new version, in a year's time, when their new model comes out, you will be out of luck to fix it. NO SUPPORT AT ALL.
The official FujiFilm technical service in New Jersey (1100 King Georges Post Road) was who gave me this information. They argued that they actually make the cameras to last what they last, tops 3 years... (and a series of other ludicrous arguments). I hope you see this message before purchasing a new camera. Literally, I have a $1200 camera that one day displayed a firmware issue and was adviced to throw it in the trash by the manufacturer. UN-Believable...

You would be happy with a DSLR. I was excited to get one, reading all the five stars reviews. I shot over 50 shots and only a few pictures came out nice and rest were ok. Fujifilm X100s nice to carry around but it is way over price. You can't go wrong getting DSLR.

I always wanted this camera but couldn't afford it when it came out. Got it at a good deal and I Love this camera so much. I take it with me everywhere. Fantastic image quality as well. Manual focus is such a joy with this. I use this when i don't want to carry my DSLR. Highly recommended.
    ***UPDATE***
So everything was fine up until a month ago with this camera. While using it, the camera would freeze completely and become unresponsive. I would have to then pop out the battery and re-insert it for it to work again, which it did, but only for a moment where it will freeze once again. When it first started to freeze it would do it 1 in every 25 photos. But now I cant even go through the menu settings before it locks up. It even does it in video mode, which I have never used other than to test this problem. I can probably take 5 or 6 photos before the camera freezes now and if I'm using the electronic viewfinder, it will suddenly become white and freeze.
I'm yet to send it back to Fuji to give an assessment on what the problem can be. I even updated the firmware to the latest version when i started experiencing the freezing issue, but to no avail.
Is this a bad camera? Not by a long shot.....imperfect yes.....but BAD, noway!! When I do send it to Fuji USA ill give an update then.

After using Canon 5D Mark 3 with 24-70mm lens for several years, the weight is becoming an issue with my aging body. I needed a reliable, easy to use camera that can produce quality images without the bulk and weight. The Fuji X100S has been the camera. In bright sunlight and high ISO setting, it can produce over exposed image because over exposure warning is not as apparent as under exposure. The warning is just ISO recommended in red. This is no fault of the camera. One has to be aware of this. Over all, it's a great little camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars The camera that ate Leica's lunch

Businesses sometimes ask themselves: "who is eating our lunch?" and here's the answer for Leica - Fujifilm. The X100s is everything that the X1 and X2 range from Leica should have been - and actually more. The build quality, handling and features of the X100s is extraordinary.

Right out of the box everything feels right. Discreet, unassuming packaging tells you that Fujifilm have spent their time on what matters - the item inside the box. The camera is solidly built but small, compact and quite rugged. Full marks too for supplying a comprehensive hard copy manual, rather than brief instructions and the rest on a CD. Small touches like a tool to help you load the fiddly camera strap rings are also appreciated.

The camera itself is chock full of features, but at the same time retains the feel of older, less complicated times when all you did was put the viewfinder to your eye, set the exposure and press the shutter. This gives you the best of both digitial and film photography in my opinion. The optical viewfinder is bright and easy to see through, diopter adjustments too are most welcome. And the digital viewfinder too works well and gives a useful alternative for composition and framing.

Performance so far seems excellent. The image quality, options for in-camera image manipulation and editing all seem well-thought out, and the fixed lens means you can concentrate on what's important - composing and enjoying picture making.

A brilliant piece of kit. Thought long and hard before such a purchase, but at the current Amazon price of a shade under £800 (as at November 2014), it's been a good decision so far. Much as I like Leica, when you look at something like the X100s you realise just what a strong product Fujifilm have come up with - recommended.
