About the Author

I'm a wife, teacher, author and mother of two boisterous boys, so most of my days are taken up with finding lost school shoes, getting stuck in traffic and wondering why I always join the queue that doesn't move in the supermarket. However, I try to forget these daily problems (and the fact that I burnt the toast again this morning) by losing myself in a good book and writing novels that give readers a break from everyday life.

Open one of my books and escape on an adventure to an exotic location, because it's easier to buy a book than it is to book an air ticket.

Have a break, read a book!

And I mean what I say. I seriously almost deleted this off my kindle after the book opened with the very amateurish use of dialogue to open a scene. But as I couldn't figure out how I decided to continue reading in hopes there would at least be a good sex scene somewhere.

And heaven forgive my snobbishness.

Though all the books possess amateurish scene-setting and characterization (My main dislike of the series as a whole was the use of a "slutty" female as a foil to the relationship of the couple. Not only is it misogynistic but it's also a lazy plot device on the whole when that character is never developed.) they do also, in turn, present a realistic portrayal of a cross-cultural relationship and some familiarity with Middle Eastern cultures. The books never tokenize, exoticsize, nor demonize, its Middle Eastern characters and sadly this is a very rare thing in "sheik" romance. Ms. Lane clearly did her research and moreover was wanted to portray those cultures for what they are, just another culture, one that may be hard for Westeners to understand, but neither worse, nor better, than our own.

And yes the books do not have sex scenes. Nevertheless I was so pleased by a realistic portrayal of inter-cultural conflict, I hardly cared. Hopefully you will too.

In short, don't let elitism cloud your mind. Yes the writing could be improved. However there is a difference between amateur and amateur-with-potential and these books certainly fall towards the latter.

KIDNAPPED BY THE SHEIKH is a short story of roughly 55 pages. The premise, as outlined in the Book Description, involves the meeting of Dr. Sarah Greenwich (a British medical doctor working in Arabia) and Sheikh Akbar. Rather than a glitzy palace, western suits, jets, and wealth, Sheikh Akbar leads and protects his Bedouin tribe in a most remote portion of the Arabian peninsula. He's surprised Sarah speaks both English and Arabic (with good reason). She's a doctor first and foremost...so even though she has excellent reason to hide her true identity, and go with their supposition that she's the Ambassador's wife (reason why she's abducted), and cannot remain silent. She stands up for the rights and needs of the women she meets in Sheikh Akbar's family...and surprisingly, this forthrightness doesn't offend him....instead, he finds in her exactly what he needs and wants. Their romance is sweet; while there is sex between them, it's off the pages (between the scenes).

I enjoyed this quick read. It's very true to the setting and sub-genre of sheikh heroes and Caucasian heroines.

This is a really delightful short romantic read. Dr. Sara Greenwich is kidnapped by Sheikh Akbar who intends to hold her for ransom. Unfortunately, he's under the impression she's the wife of the British Ambassador. Stuck in the sheikh's desert encampment, Sara has to conceal her identify while keeping her growing attraction to the man under wraps. When she realizes the feeling is mutual, and the sheikh discovers her true identity, things heat up. This is pure escapist fun. Very romantic and a pleasure to read.

I classify this book as "okay". It's not a bad book but it just didn't hold my interest. I don't think I will read the other two books in the series.

And then it just got lame. I really, really like Sheikh romances but this just kinda went flat towards the end. There just wasn't enough believeable interaction between the h/h. Glad it was for free.

I happen to agree with Mrs. Lane's comment, it is easier to travel to foreign lands through a book than it is to book a trip, and a much more pleasant experience than to go through customs too. Her book does a wonderful job of transporting you far away into amazing places with wonderful people that might not be as nice if you would actually travel there. Well done Mrs. Lane!

Maybe if it had been longer it could have been a passable story but this was just so lame. If it hadn't been such a short story, I would have quit reading it.

First, there was no romance. Sarah is thought to be and poses as a married woman in an Arab country. So she makes the first move to kiss the sheikh and then sleeps with him after one kiss? What a joke. Even if you take out the fact that Arab men would have seen her making the advances when she was supposedly married as her being a whore, there is no romance to a woman kissing a guy once or twice and then jumping into bed with him. That's just having sex. Then after having sex one night she's ready to marry him. No romance.

The story was not only not plausible, it had no substance. Being a short story is no reason to sacrafice substance. It's just bad writing.

I certainly hope this author's other books are better than this. I don't think I would spend any money to find out though. This may not have been a waste of money since it was free but it was a waste of my time. Which is valuable to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely beautiful - Loved it...

Kidnapped by the Sheikh was a truly beautiful romance. Sarah a doctor is kidnapped by Sheikh Akbar and his men mistakenly. They believe she is the Ambassadors wife and want to hold her ransom. This is an age old kidnapping purely for financial gain and not intended to end in blood shed. Sarah plays along and for sometime and pretends to be who they want her to be until she is found out.

Along the way Sarah falls in love with the handsome Sheikh and her feelings are reciprocated. This is such a delightful romance and one that I was completely lost in and did not want to end! I could feel all the passion, desire and longing between the two main characters.

Katheryn Lane weaves a beautiful love story with very well developed characters. Believe me you won't be able to put this fabulous story down as it grips hold of your emotions refusing to let you go...

KIDNAPPED BY THE SHEIKH
Kidnapped by the Sheikh is the first book in THE DESERT SHEIKH series. This skilfully written story unfolds delightfully, involving beautifully crafted characters, with whom the reader quickly develops great empathy. Sarah, the feisty main character, is kidnapped for ransom by Sheikh Akbar, who mistakes her for the wife of the Ambassador. Sheikh Akbar comes from the remote parts of the Arabian Peninsula and rules over a local Bedouin tribe. The locality is described so well that the reader is deftly transported to the Middle East and is drawn along as the relationship between Sarah and the Sheikh is developed adroitly by the author, Katheryn Lane. The dialogue between the two main characters is both amusing and thought-provoking, particularly given the setting of the story. If you enjoy romance with unusual twists and turns, then this book is a must for you and is highly recommended.
