milkweed seeds for planting to attract monarch butterflies

Milkweed is very important to the Monarch butterfly as it is categorized as a host plant. The caterpillars will enjoy its large, tender leaves and adult Monarchs, as well as many other butterflies look to it for its rich source of nectar. Milkweed can be grown with other varieties of butterfly attracting plants like Coneflowers, Yarrow, Sunflowers and more.

Monarch butterflies occupied much of North America in the many years prior to 2015. Recently, studies have shown that their numbers have dwindled by nearly 96% over the decades, leaving them hanging on the edge of endangerment. This migratory species is exposed to numerous threats along its pilgrimage, but the main threat it faces is the decrease in Milkweed plants available.

Purchase Asclepias seeds now to help prevent any further decline in the Monarch population. Together we can all help to increase the number of these lovely orange & black creatures that so many of us adore.

Faster way of germinating!

Faster way of germinating!
Everyone routinely talks about cold stratification in order for the seeds to germinate. Upon research, I came across a different method and used the tools I had to germinate them in a day! Look up the water method. I clipped the seedlings and placed them in sterilized clear cups before adding a little bit of boiling water and a couple drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide and covered with plastic. The method online continually changed out the water to keep the seeds extra warm. I was skeptical as to what I was doing because I’m new to gardening, but I checked the next day and the photos attached shows the results! I’ve tried the cold stratification and even the immediate planting in full sunlight with no results. I read that you’ll get an even better germination rate if you do pop them in the fridge first before using the water method, but isn’t necessary. Some of my unused seeds go into the fridge for storage so I’ll be testing more out. I hope this helps someone else out there!
