1950s general:
THE KING OF ROCK 'N' ROLL - THE COMPLETE '50s MASTERS (5 CDs)
THE COMPLETE MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET (which should actually be titled THE COMPLETE $750,000 TRIO, as Johnny Cash was only at the photo session at Memphis' Sun Studios; only Elvis, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis actually play on the December 4, 1956 jam session).
YOUNG MAN WITH THE BIG BEAT (5 CDs - all of The King's 1956 RCA master recordings, plus alternate takes, rarities, and interviews)

THE COMPLETE '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL (4 CDs - an expanded version of the original album, plus all four of the concerts, and all of the rehearsal takes)
THE '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL (3-DVD Deluxe Edition, with a slightly expanded version of the original December 3, 1968 NBC-TV special - the bordello sequence [set to "Let Yourself Go"] was added [it was originally cut from the special at the request of the sponsor, Singer Sewing Machines, who deemed it too risqué], but only the modern-dance routine from the middle of the "It Hurts Me" segment remains; Elvis' vocal performances and fight scenes from the beginning and the end of the song were mysteriously deleted - plus all four of the concerts, and, on Discs 2 and 3, all of the outtakes, including the missing "It Hurts Me" sequences)
THE '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL - SPECIAL EDITION (re-edited DVD from 2006, with a longer and better edit of the special than the 3-DVD set above, featuring the unedited gospel and "Guitar Man" production numbers, including the complete "It Hurts Me" sequence, plus several songs not featured on the NBC broadcast: "That's All Right," "Blue Suede Shoes," "Don't Be Cruel," "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again," "Trying To Get To You," and "Tiger Man" [unfortunately, "Blue Christmas," which was featured on the original special, was not included on this DVD], plus a "blooper" segment entitled HAVING FUN WITH ELVIS IN BURBANK, a photo gallery, and a promo for other Elvis CDs and DVDs)

The five bonus songs also appear at the end of Disc 2 of the Legacy edition (after the remixed THE ALTERNATE ALOHA) and follow the main concert on the single-CD edition issued in this box set)

I am really enjoying this new collection. It has nice packaging, including a beautiful hardcover book with a complete sessionography and discography of all of Elvis' lifetime releases. I have listened to all of the material (including the FROM THE VAULTS collections) and it sounds absolutely fantastic ("My Happiness" sounds like it was recorded yesterday, instead of 1953). Although I have my Elvis favorites - virtually all of The King's 1950s material, his early 1960s sessions (especially ELVIS IS BACK!), the late 1960s Memphis recordings (FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS and ELVIS BACK IN MEMPHIS [the second half of FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS/FROM VEGAS TO MEMPHIS]), plus his gospel and Christmas recordings, the 1970s material - both studio and live - was surprisingly excellent; in fact, except for some weak songs on the movie soundtrack albums - and there is plenty of good material there as well - and some of the raw-sounding rarities, virtually everything on this collection is first-rate.
Because of space limitations, I can't go into as much detail as I would like, but if you can only have one collection, this will give you all of the Elvis Presley that you will ever need - all 57 original albums with the original Side 1 labels, including compilations and Camden budget albums that contain all of the non-LP single and EP tracks, plus a FROM THE VAULTS CD for each decade ('50s, '60s, '70s), also with a period label. There is a collection of stickers for all of the albums that had promotional stickers, and if you examine the stickers and find one that says, "FREE ELVIS PHOTO INSIDE," you will find a miniature version of said photo (or photos) inside the corresponding CD jacket. Pictures and booklets are also included with some of the other CDs. It's also a lot less expensive than the long-out-of print Elvis Presley: The Complete Elvis Presley Masters Collection , which has essentially the same material, albeit in year-by-year chronological order, rather than release date or LP running order. The only differences are a few tracks that use single and EP mixes/edits, instead of or in addition to the LP versions, and more rarities. But at almost $4,000, only serious collectors need bother with the COMPLETE MASTERS collection.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE: After comparing the version of "Doncha' Think It's Time" on the new 50,000,000 ELVIS FANS CAN'T BE WRONG: ELVIS' GOLD RECORDS, VOL. 2 CD with the version on THE KING OF ROCK 'N' ROLL: THE COMPLETE '50s MASTERS, I (and other reviewers) have concluded that they are one and the same - the original single master (as opposed to the alternate edit that originally appeared on the ELVIS' GOLD RECORDS, VOL. 2 LP). As for "A Little Less Conversation," the 2:00 version that appears on the new ALMOST IN LOVE CD appears to be identical to the one on 2007's ELVIS AT THE MOVIES. COMMAND PERFORMANCES: THE ESSENTIAL '60s MASTERS II has what appears to be the 2:10 stereo mix of the original single; THE ESSENTIAL ELVIS PRESLEY 3.0 has yet another version, which also runs 2:10, but has a different vocal track with Elvis shouting, "Hey!" before he starts singing the opening line, "A little less conversation/A little more action." So there are at least three versions of "A Little Less Conversation" out there (four if you count the '68 Comeback Special outtake, first issued in 1998 on the MEMORIES: THE '68 COMEBACK SPECIAL 2-CD collection, and used as the basis for the 2002 JXL remix, which was an international hit).
In addition, although the Camden albums C'MON EVERYBODY and I GOT LUCKY were originally issued in mono (and have mono Side 1 labels on the CDs), most of the tracks appear in stereo on the two CDs, except for three of the four tracks from the FOLLOW THAT DREAM EP - the title song, "What A Wonderful Life," and "I'm Not The Marrying Kind." The fourth FTD EP track, "Angel," does appear in true stereo. The stereo version of "Follow That Dream" appears on THE ESSENTIAL ELVIS PRESLEY 3.0 and ELVIS AT THE MOVIES; an alternate stereo version (take 2) appears on COMMAND PERFORMANCES: THE ESSENTIAL '60s MASTERS II. The differences are so minor, I really could not tell them apart. Another track from the FTD sessions, "Sound Advice," which was not included in the film or on the EP at Elvis' request, appears in mono on ELVIS FOR EVERYONE. Perhaps the stereo masters for "What A Wonderful Life," "I'm Not The Marrying Kind," and "Sound Advice" no longer exist, or were never made. Here and there, throughout the collection, a sprinkling of the post-1960 tracks do appear in mono. The '50s material was released either in mono or in "electronically reprocessed" fake stereo (though some "experimental" binaural stereo mixes were made in the late '50s, some of which have been issued on Disc 1 of ELVIS: CLOSE UP and other collections).
ELVIS PRESLEY: THE RCA ALBUM COLLECTION is a five-star collection without any reservation whatsoever.
This is an impressive package. The discs have a mini-LP feel and there is bonus artwork included with several discs that replicate the original album inserts -- miniature pictures and postcards, mostly. Some of the slipcases are bi-fold to mimic the LP covers as well. That was unexpected and a very thoughtful way to package this collection. One can easily imagine what it would have been like to open a full-size LP for the first time.
Because mom's dexterity isn't the best, we ripped every CD into digital mp3 and put all the main albums (not including the 3 bonus discs of rarities) on an iPod so she can listen on her bluetooth stereo. Every day for a month now, she's put the iPod on shuffle and listened to Elvis for hours. She says that there's not a bad song in the entire set.
Sound quality is exceptionally clear from beginning to end. Although I haven't listened to Elvis much, I do listen to a lot of music from this era. I wish all my albums sounded this good. Every song sounds full and vibrant. One doesn't get the sense that these are old recordings, and there's no "far away" or fuzzy feel that one can sometimes get from old recordings.
I can't speak to the book, as she hasn't really looked at it and neither have I. She keeps the display box next to her stereo and rotates it every few days so that a different picture of Elvis is showing.
One thing worth noting. This set came shrink-wrapped inside a tight-fitting cardboard box from the factory, which was bubble wrapped and shipped inside in a larger Amazon box. Though there was no damage to the outermost box or the bubble wrap, but the factory cardboard box had been dropped and had damage. This must have happened prior to Amazon shipping it. This damage was significant enough that it affected the display box. We decided, since mother was going to listen to the CDs and would likely drop the display box at some point herself, that it wasn't worth contacting Amazon for a replacement. A true collector would likely feel otherwise.
Overall, I highly recommend this set. It was worth every penny just for the joy its already brought mom in the short time since Christmas.
Top reviews from other countries
Sauf qu’en 2016, sort The Album Collection. Certains albums profitent du gatefold original (Elvis is Back! par exemple).
