Bay of Sighs: Guardians Trilogy, Book 2 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The second novel in the Guardians Trilogy from the bestselling author of Stars of Fortune.

Mermaid Annika is from the sea, and it is there she must return after her quest to find the stars. New to this world, her purity and beauty are nothing less than breathtaking, along with her graceful athleticism, as her five new friends discovered when they retrieved the fire star.

Now, through space and time, traveler Sawyer King has brought the guardians to the island of Capri, where the water star is hidden. And as he watches Annika in her element, he finds himself drawn to her joyful spirit. But Sawyer knows that if he allows her into his heart, no compass could ever guide him back to solid ground....

And in the darkness, their enemy broods. She lost one star to the guardians, but there is still time for blood to be spilled - the mermaid's in the water and the traveler's on the land. For she has forged a dangerous new weapon. Something deadly and unpredictable. Something human.

Note to readers... If you're new to the Guardians Trilogy, I highly recommend reading Stars of Fortune (Book One, the Guardians Trilogy) first. Book One truly sets everything up and improves the pleasure of reading Bay of Sighs. I guarantee that any reader beginning with Book Two will not only wish that they had read the books in order, they will also turn to immediately begin reading Stars of Fortune.

We have another great new original publication by Nora Roberts in the Guardians Trilogy! Bay of Sighs, book two in the aforementioned trilogy, continues where Stars of Fortune (book 1) left off. The guardians are still pursuing the stars - one per book - while the relationships between the six continue to develop. As any Nora Roberts reader recognizes and I believe now expects, 3 women and 3 men featured in a trilogy allows one of the greatest pleasures of Ms. Roberts readers, her incredible talent for the perfect mix of developing romances, focusing heavily on one romantic couple per book, as well as fleshing out the deepening interpersonal relationships between the six.
As the general plot was laid out in book 1, there was more availability in this book for the other characters' details and motivations. Of course there is no shortage of action and suspense either, both written as well as romance by Ms. Roberts.
Seriously, is there anything she isn't able to write excellently???
- I read an average of 5 books per week and there are very few books I ever read twice. I almost always find at minimum 3-5 proofreading errors and I don't recall the last time I caught any errors in new NR publications. I read most genres and have had these reading habits since I was a child. The ratio of books I'd look forward to re-reading versus the number of books in my personal library is minuscule. I have quite a few more Nora Roberts/ JD Robb (NR books actually) that I am able to truly enjoy reading again than any other authors.
The greatest compliments I am personally able to give any author are actually wanting to read the book(s) again as well as missing the characters and "wondering" what they're up to as well as where their paths lead to in the future. I wholeheartedly extend these compliments to Ms. Roberts and thank her for diligently writing with such talent for all of her readers. My only wish is that she would revisit some of her previous series and pen new novels with the characters lives present day. We can only hope that maybe one day she'll do so.
My only complaint (really more of an observation) is that going into any trilogy / series readers generally assume that the events in the second book / next to final edition will all work out and line up as a bridge to connect the final book. However, as part of her own special magic, Ms. Roberts masterfully keeps her readers glued straight through to the final page of Bay of Sighs.
Ms. Roberts, thank you for a fantastic Saturday afternoon with Sasha, Annika, Riley, Bran, Doyle and Sawyer!
I'll be missing them until I finish the trilogy...

One of the things I like most in this trilogy is the uniqueness of each character. The six fated to save the world are more than just human. Sasha is a seer and Bran a magician. Annika a mermaid granted three moons with human legs to complete her quest. Sawyer a time traveler, Doyle an immortal, and snarky archeologist Riley is a shifter. Together they formed a family and have each other’s six. In Bay of Sighs they continue to grow stronger as they search for the second star.

In the first book, Stars of Fortune, we had Bran and Sasha’s romance. I continue to enjoyed the growth we witness in Sasha. Bay of Sighs focuses on the second star, one of water but it also has a slow building romance between Annika and Sawyer. I am super excited about Island of Glass, the last book featuring Doyle and Riley. These two have wicked banter and nip at each other. While the storyline is predictable, it’s the telling of these stories that make them such delightful escapes.

Annika is an absolutely hoot and her summery personality and outlook is infectious. Since Annika has lived her life in the water, all is new to her and it created plenty of humor and banter. Sawyer is attracted to Annika, but sees her as an innocent. However, Annika fell in love with Sawyer years ago. She wants more with him but is bound by rules all sirens must follow and cannot tell him. Thank goodness, for her friends Sasha and Riley. They help find loopholes around those rules.Poor Sawyer! Sawyer is a traveler and as a Whovian I was already swooning. I love how level-headed and brave he is. He was also patient with Annika and protective. It was fun watching Sawyer fall. Roberts delivered heat with tender moments in this impossible romance.

The suspenseful thread regarding their quests continues. Roberts had us spending time with the dark side. Wounded in the first battle their enemy gathers aid from a human. Blood oaths and bargains are struck bring danger for our fated ones. We get plenty of battles between research, friendship, training and our romance to keep the reader flipping the pages. It was fun seeing all of them work as team and watching them push the limits of their abilities. Dark and suspenseful moments were brutal and sent a shiver down my spine.Copy provided by publisher , full review at caffeinated book reviewer.

Read the first book before this one…like her other trilogies each one centers around another couple embracing love as they also partner to overcome evil and darkness.

This story of love, power over who and good winning over evil, truly amazing. I could actually see Anni as she twirled to get the stone. Reading of how n these last two battles of Doyle and Bran help Riley get out of her clothes as she becomes the"wolf". I have not wanted to put this book down. I am cheering these Guardians on. I respect how they have band together ..So awesome! I enjoy all of Nora Roberts books that I have read so far.I truly enjoy the series. I have one more and will start it tomorrow. I was understanding some of the weave of the different guardian and their skill! A long time back when I was in high school, I read some of Taylor Cardwell (??) stories of those that were Romans, etc. It caught my interest and now this series by Nora Roberts has brought back the guardians.
