Product Description
ChimneyRx Paint “N” Peel Fireplace Cleaner is a water-based cleaning poultice that removes unsightly smoke, soot, creosote and dirt stains from masonry fireplace fronts and hearths. No additional water is needed for application or removal. Simply paint the product on the surface, allow it to dry, and then peel it off. Product can be used to clean most all masonry surfaces both interior/exterior, textured or smooth brick, stone, marble, granite, slate, tile, concrete, mortar and limestone. Product may not be suitable for some types of man-made or cultured stone. Note: product may be difficult to remove from extremely textured surfaces or deeply grooved bricks. Always test for compatibility and desired results with your specific surface before proceeding with entire project. Apply product in a small inconspicuous “test” area and allow product to dry completely (24-48 hours minimum) before removing. Heavily soiled areas may require multiple applications.
Dry Time: At 1/8”-3/16” thickness, product will take a minimum of 24-48 hours to dry completely, depending on environmental conditions.
Coverage: 10-20 sq. ft. per half gallon container.
Removal of Dry Product: Product must be completely dry before removing. Starting at an edge, pull the dry film off slowly at an angle with both hands. Be careful not to tear the coating as this may make it more difficult to remove. Product that does not pull off in a continuous sheet indicates the dried film is too thin to peel easily. Re-coat over the thinly applied material with a thick coat of product, let dry completely and re-peel.

The stone fireplace probably hadn’t been cleaned in decades. I started with a small section on top right to see how it works. I then applied it by hand with rubber gloves to the entire face. The original top right is now dirtier as I used the supplied brush instead of my hands. Overall, I used four 1/2 gallon buckets.
Photo is: top left: pre-application (except for top right section). Top right: after application. Bottom left: after drying for 24 hours. Bottom right: after removing “face mask”.

Bottom line, calculate your square footage, and figure 15 - 20 square feet of coverage per container. Not 20-40. Also, plan on applying two coats, because you cannot the product thick enough in one coat without sagging.
CUSTOMER SERVICE FOLKS ARE GREAT.
I started in one small area to make sure it would not damage the stones or grout. After that test I did the smallest stone with smoke damage, the. Expanded to all snake damage. Every time was surprised and happy with the ease of use and results.
One thing I did different was after applying the first liberal coat, nice and thick, I would waited about 12-16 hours and reapplied a overcoat layer. Then waited at least 48 hrs. Before starting the satisfaction of peeling off the temporary layer to reveal the improvement. Considering I did this three times it made for a long project. And It may have been overkill, but made removal easy and had no issues with any material being left on the fireplace after carefully peeling it off.
The smell is minimal, not an issue for anyone in our home. The worse part is that the appearance of the material is less than desirable during the process, but based on the end results I can not complain at all. Wish I knew of this sooner and had been able to use it in the past.
(Performance on cleaning part of the concrete slab was minimal, but the stone and grout had great results.)
