Cross the Line (A Boston Love Story Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 2,822 ratings

Phoebe West has been head-over-heels in love with her brother’s best friend for as long as she can remember.

Not that he’s bothered to notice.

Despite several mortifying attempts at seduction and a decade’s worth of unrequited pining, nothing Phoebe does seems to make any impact on the man she’s obsessed over since her bra-stuffing days. She knows it’s time to let him go, though just the thought is nearly enough to shatter her…

Nathaniel “Nate” Knox has only ever seen Phoebe as one thing: forbidden.

There’s a darkness in Nate, the kind you can’t avoid after years working in special forces and private security. He’s no good for anyone — especially not someone as sweet as his best friend’s little sister. He knows he can’t have her. Not ever. Even if she makes him feel things he barely recognizes...

Some lines aren’t meant to be crossed.

When an unforeseeable series of events sends Phoebe stumbling headfirst into danger, there’s only one man who can protect her. Though, in his quest to save her life, he may just break her heart...

CROSS THE LINE is a full-length contemporary romance about a woman who can’t seem to walk away… and the man who’ll go to any length to keep her safe. Due to sparks flying, suspenseful moments, steamy scenes, and one sassy heroine, it is recommended to readers ages 17 and up.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I absolutely LOVED this book!!! I was hooked from the first page and didn't want to put it down until the end. It was the perfect mix of everything I could want in an awesome romance!!! It was SEXY, SWOONY, SASSY, and SWEET, but also suspenseful, hilarious, emotional, and fast-paced. The feisty heroine had me laughing out loud over and over again, and the mysterious brooding Alpha hero stole my heart!!!" - Aestas Book Blog

I love the whole big brother's best friend trope, so when I read this blurb, I knew it'd be right up my alley. And boy was it!

"...his blatant indifference wasn't enough to deter me. Because, well here's the thing. I love him. I always have."

Phoebe West met the love of her life at 5 years old. Nathaniel Knox fell in love at nine while looking at his crying five-year-old neighbor as she told him about turtle doves mating for life, about a love so powerful that neither can move on without the other. It was a defining moment in both of their young lives, one that neither fully understood at the time.

"You and me... we're a story that won't have a happy ending. A tragedy. Nothing good comes from a tragedy."

"Maybe I'd rather live in the wreckage with you for a while than a fake fairy tale with someone else forever."

She knew for sure what she was feeling was love at 14, and she spent the next 10 years pining for and alternately wanting him and hating him. Knox, thinking he was doing the right thing by pushing her away, has kept tabs on her, though. And when she needs him most, he's there.

"I spent a long time trying to convince myself you were better off without me...But I can't do it anymore. I won't. See, you and I mated for life about a million years ago, little bird."

Loved this hard-won HEA! Julie Johnson told a beautiful love story in Cross the Line. Plenty of swoon-worthy moments, some angsty goodness, tons of witty banter (Phoebe is hilarious) and a little bit of sexiness all blended together with an interesting plot that kept me flipping the pages. I smiled, I laughed out loud, and I groaned audibly in frustration along with Phoebe and Knox (could there have been any more *@ck-blocking, Ms. Johnson?!) several times.

"I want you. Every minute. Every day. Forvever... The second I met you, I was in it for life... I can't live without you. Don't want to. Not anymore. Never again."

Well written, thoughtfully devolved and plotted, with fantastic characters (must have Parker's story, and while you're at it, Lila's, too, ok?), this author is one I'll definitely read again.

*Recieved an ARC in return for an honest review...
Let me start by saying Julie Johnson is a phenomenal writer, PHENOMENAL! She is no doubt one of my all time favorite indie writers. She writes with ease that makes you read with such comfort that by the time you start you don't want to stop reading. She is gifted... With that said her newest book Cross the Line which is in conjunction with the Boston Love Series a crossover from Not You its Me which introduced us to Pheobe West in that book. (You don't necessarily need to read the first book but you should because then you know exactly what's going on in Cross the Line). Ok, so Pheobe West is a rich, single heiress who is in love with her brother's best friend Nathaniel Knox and she has loved him since she was 6 years old. Yes, SIX! The way Julie introduces Nate and Phoebe in the prologue is FRACKING ADORABLE!! ;) Anyway... Since he is her brother's best friend he is off limits. She has tried numerous of times to get over him. They grew up together and they really are like family, Nate and her brother Parker have taken care of Pheobe her whole life. Phoebe is now 23 and still hopelessly in love with Nate she has a great supportive best friend, Lila who is by the way hilarious and her ever loving Boo her white Pomeranian. The relationship she has with Boo, if you're a dog lover you'll totally get the connection they have to each other, it's adorable! This book from start to finish is so funny, witty and oh my gosh the sweet endearments that happen through out the book will have you laughing, crying and sighing all at once! Now, the only reason this isn't getting a five star review from me is because and this could be just ME!! I personally don't like spin offs and I found that although I loved Chase and Gemma in their book I found that they were annoying in this one. Please don't hate me for saying that but it's just how I felt... I personally as a reader love to read new characters (but not too many characters) and see where they go and when a book is done it's done I don't need to know what happened to them it's up to the reader for the true happily ever after blah, blah, blah... I also, would have loved to hear Nate's POV Julie did insert cute clips from him in a few of the beginning chapters which to me was a complete tease! ;) Again, that's my opinion, this is still a really good read! I would love to see Julie go back to her beginning start of writing...my all time favorite is still her very first book Like Gravity a dark, yet complete hold your breath what is gonna happen kind of book. Cross the Line is the complete opposite of that because it's literally a romantic comedy so if you're in the mood for a lift me up, I need a good laugh with romance intertwined in it, this book is for you!!! So jump on the Julie Johnson band wagon I promise you won't be disappointed! One click Cross the Line and get ready to laugh out loud and smile so hard your cheeks will hurt!!
Julie, I just adore you and your books and always, always look forward to reading whatever you have coming out! You are a rockstar!!! Congrats on Cross the Line! Can't wait to see what you come up with next!!

Just as good as the first book in this series which is also highly recommended. It's the type of book you can't wait to find out what happens and yet when you're done reading you're sad it's over. Fantastic writing, great characters and the female character is actually a sassy for real. Funny, mesmerizing, and great build up of the relationship between the two characters. A book that's hot without extreme sex scenes every few pages. Recommended !

I'm not sure how it took me so long to discover this author. This is a great book! I loved sassy Phoebe, and Nate, omg Nate. He's everything you could ask for in a book boyfriend. Sizzling hot, ultra- protective, totally in love with our girl, and possible leading a double life as Batman.
If you haven't read any of Julie Johnson's books then you need to do it right now. I'm just glad there are more in this series - the one good thing about being so late to the Julie party!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book

I loved this book. Nate is perfect, just enough Alpha male to make him believable but not so much you want to punch him repeatedly. Phoebe is so nice you would love to be her best friend, especially if you got to borrow some of her shoes. I like it when the conflict in the book is caused by the bad guy more than when it's caused by the person who is supposed to play the hero and just does something to prove what a jerk he really is. This is one of the books where the bad guys remain the bad guys and the good guys are truly good. Its a nice light read and isn't too heavy which makes a nice change from what I have been reading lately. It's like taking a big breath of fresh air.

Ook dit boek kon ik niet wegleggen nadat ik er in begonnen was, hoe krijg je de karakters bij elkaar. Kan haast niet wachten of er nog een vervolg komt.
