Purchase options and add-ons
In The MindBody Code, Dr. Martinez challenges us to embrace a radically new paradigm for health and well-being. Readers will not only learn the basics of this fascinating cutting-edge science, but they will also learn to communicate with the body in its own biosymbolic language for results that until this point may have been elusive at best. Martinez reveals the way our cultural beliefs impact our immune system, the pathway to healing the archetypal wounds of shame, abandonment, and betrayal, and much more.

Review
“The MindBody Code has impacted my own work and life, and I know that it can also profoundly impact yours. You don’t need to stay caged in a life of culturally approved ‘known misery’ that keeps you from experiencing a lifetime of wonder, health, and joy. You have within you the power to reinvent yourself at any age or stage―no matter what your circumstances. The roadmap is right here in these pages.” ―Christiane Northrup, MD, author of the New York Times bestsellers The Wisdom of Menopause and Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom
“This book is that of a masterful mind-body guide, whose breadth and depth are truly admirable. Mario Martinez is a great teacher who knows how to translate complex subject matter into poetic, inviting language. The result for the reader is a gentle unfolding of self-discovery that is life-changing.” ―Larry Dossey, MD, author of One Mind: How Our Individual Mind Is Part of a Greater Consciousness and Why It Matters
“Martinez’s book gives new meaning to the saying, ‘Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can never hurt you.’ In fact, he shows us that words can cause illness. By putting his wisdom into action, we can transform the unhealthy, culturally-based language we mindlessly learned into a mindful, biosymbolic language to bring about health and vitality. Others have written about the power of the mind to create health. The MindBody Code successfully goes one step further by incorporating the profound effect culture has on our well-being. If you’re interested in becoming or remaining healthy, read this book.” ―Ellen Langer, PhD, Harvard psychology professor and author of Counterclockwise: Mindful Health and the Power of Possibility

About the author

"What have the cultures of your life taught you about health and longevity? You may be surprised at what comes up as you develop your own awareness and better understand MindBody codes." - Dr. Mario Martinez
Dr. Martinez is a licensed clinical psychologist and bestselling author of The MindBody Code: How to Change the Beliefs that Limit Your Health, Longevity, and Success, as well the psychological novel "The Man from Autumn". He specializes in how cultural and transcendental beliefs affect health and longevity. He has conducted extensive ethnographic work with centenarians worldwide and developed a model of longevity that he teaches in webinars and workshops. He lectures worldwide on his theory of Biocognition and on investigations he has conducted of alleged cases of stigmata for the Catholic Church, the BBC, Discovery, and National Geographic. Also, based on how the immune system makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, he developed a unique model of organizational science he calls The Empowerment Code, to teach executives of global companies how to maximize productivity while enhancing wellness.
"Gratitude is more than a habit or practice, it is a consciousness. Embody it and live out pristine gratefulness. Celebrate life." - Dr. Mario Martinez

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2017My best read of the year. Dr. Mario Martinez, you are brilliant! As a psychotherapist I incorporate your guidance with my patients. I have shared your book with many friends and with family members. I am inspired to be a healthy narcissist. I tend to put others before me most of the time. Since reading your book, I am more sassy and alive in a good way. Yes, also healthfully connected to others. Releasing the suffering paradigm out of my system is quite freeing...departing the family pale. I recommend this book to everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2014The most important book I have read in 20 years.
I am indebted to Dr Martinez's work. This book elegantly combined many disciplines within the scientific community while, simultaneously, speaking to my own personal and intuitive experience. The exercises after each chapter are incredible. This work is meant to be "interactive" and the results are rich and profound. I recommend this work without reservation.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2016This is a good book with a lot of useful information. There wasn't a lot of new concepts that hasn't been told by other teachers. Except the Portal of Wellness and how he connected to the Chakra System. I have been meditating and using the Portal system. It works and one of the best systems I have seen that deals with the issues of shame, guilt and abandonment. For this alone I recommend that you purchase this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022Dr. Martinez's approach to the mind body is phenomenal. My trauma experiences left me near completely dissociated from my own body, but his method has allowed me to communicate with my body and heal its suffering, which in turn is allowing me to live a happier, healthier life.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2015I was predisposed to accept that health is a combination of physical and mental conditioning; however, what I learned is that memory of past adverse experience is an impediment to current health/freedom and happiness. Dr. Martinez presents compelling evidence for his point of view. Dr. Martinez expands on the concept of health by looking at habits of people who live to be 100 or more. I am on my 2nd reading and will likely need many more iterations. The exercises are challenging for me as I have a difficult time quieting my mind. I have a long way to go to address my past adverse experiences; and I am not fully convinced that it is possible to completely heal old wounds. I intend to continue to work on the exercises in the book the promised benefit is worth the time and effort.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2015This is a very interesting book. A complicated philosophy with a plethora of terms that Mario Martinez has created.
I can't say that this was a life changing book for me, or that I had a big light bulb moment. His voice is very listenable and soothing on the audible version. I also can't say that I would recommend this book for most people. You have to really be into mind-science. I found myself at some points, just wishing he'd get to the point. For instance, he claims that he'll teach people if they are shame - abandonment - or betrayal based. It never really happens. I didn't find any true changes by going through his 20 minute exercises. There just wasn't much for me to hang onto once I finished reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2021This book, written by a doctor, finally weaves the complexity of the mind/body/emotions together showing how to heal deep wounds and how to support your body/mind in achieving maximum health. I loved the section on centenarians (people over 100). His hypothesis is we are born genetically predisposed to health (proven by the easy with which your body heals a cut... as an example), but our choices based on our cultural norms causes illness (think obesity, substance abuse, diabetes). I realize that some illness is created by the body (defects), but most is created by choices (food, sleep, stress, exercise). I strongly recommend this book for anyone who would like to read an owner's manual for the mind/body that is written from an integrated POV rather than a list of problems to fix.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2015I just finished reading this book and I loved it. It took me a long while to finish it though, because, for me, it was a lot of new information to take in. My only advice for people who will read this book is to read it with an open mind, as the author himself asks us during the book. This book is also different from anything I've ever read, in a good way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read. Very helpful for identifying and healing old traumas.
I've been using this in conjunction with some coaching. The ideas and processing protocols have helped me to heal some trauma wounds and look at situations differently. This really is an ongoing process as we will probably always have some new bits of wounds, or issues, showing up after the major ones have ceased to be a hindrance to our health and happiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opener
I read a lot of books and only now and then I'm really impressed by what I read! This book is phenomenal and has provided me with plenty of fascinating information that generates fun conversations, but it has also helped me a lot in my work as an osteopath and meditation guide. I can help patients on a much deeper level by approaching emotional wounds with their appropriate healing field. I also listen to the audiobook version - Mario Martinez is a wonderful storyteller!

5.0 out of 5 stars A game changer
I loved every page of this book, so deep, profound and insightful. It explains with great care how to look at different aspects of life, and how to transform each situation through the lenses of love and self-understanding. The payoff is a healthy and long life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for holistic health self discovery
Buy this book! It will change you! If you have an interest in the biopsychosocial model of health this gives provides brilliant insights in wellbeing. Only on the 2nd Chapter but it's already a great read, well written and with practical tools to work with.
