Livescribe Notebook

Capture Lectures, Labs, Seminars, Study Groups, and More with Durable College-Ruled Notebooks

Each notebook in this pack contains 100 sheets of high-quality paper, quick access buttons for your smartpen settings, and a divider with two storage pockets for handouts. Individual sheets feature a micro-perforation for quick and clean tear-outs, as well as standard 3-hole punched format for easy storage in binders.

These single subject notebooks come in a pack of four, each with a different color cover (dark blue, red, black, and orange) and unique dot pattern from the inside front cover all the way through to the inside back cover.

How Livescribe Paper Works

Dot paper uses regular paper printed with a unique pattern of tiny microdots. This tiny pattern works a lot like a GPS system for your smartpen. It allows a smartpen to capture everything it writes or draws on dot paper.

Livescribe smartpens only work with Livescribe paper, so we''ve created a variety of paper sizes and types: College-ruled Notebooks, Lined Journals, Blank Journals, Mini Journals, A5-sized Notebooks, Flip Notepads, and Sticky Notes.

Key Features:

  • Before using any new paper product, please check to see that your smartpen is using the latest available firmware.
  • Divider with 2 storage pockets for all of your loose-leaf notes and papers
  • Perforated 8.5 inches x 11 inches dot paper, college ruled, three-hole punched
  • Dark blue, red, black, and orange colored covers
  • Single Subject Notebooks No. 1-4

The paper itself is good, but the notebooks are weirdly LOW quality
3 Stars
The paper itself is good, but the notebooks are weirdly LOW quality
I received the Echo pen on loan from my university's disability center and have been using it to take notes in all my classes for about two years now. I have used the multi-subject notebook as well as the single subject ones and find the single subjects work better with my schedule. For reference, we are on the quarter system, so each notebook is used 3+ days a week for 10 weeks.I find the basic controls easy to use, though the location of the controls (front page, back page, bookmark) is inconsistent. I have not experimented with more advanced controls such as bookmarks or tags.I have two main issues with these notebooks, the first being the pockets in the front for loose-leaf papers. The main problem with the pockets appears to be that the manufacturer elected not to make the notebook covers any bigger than the paper, so the pockets are barely wide enough to fit 8.5x11" papers in. While you can somewhat comfortably fit up to about 20 sheets in there (front and back combined), even just putting in one or two is a bit of a hassle. On top of this, any papers you do put in the pockets stick out of the top of the notebook slightly (again, the cover is pretty much the exact same size as the notebook paper), leaving them unprotected against bending and tearing (see photos).Much worse than the pockets, however, is the binding. They use twin loop wire binding, which is ostensibly very durable. Maybe it's the type of wire they use, but the binding on these notebooks is not very sturdy at all. It's pretty easy to bend, and the more it does the more flimsy it gets. If you stack the notebooks, and the binding on one of them has pulled apart slightly (which it will inevitably do with enough use), it will hook onto the other notebook's binding. If you're keeping the notebooks in your backpack like I do, this can quickly cause more damage to both notebooks when you try to pull one out. Because of this, I've had to start stacking my notebooks in alternating directions so the bindings don't touch, and then pulling them all out at once to retrieve one. If the binding pulls apart enough, the covers will start to pull away from the rest and may just fall out altogether (some pages in the front will go too if you flip the front cover around to the back notepad-style instead of laying both covers flat book-style). And unfortunately, due to the nature of the binding, there's no easy way to fix it. At that point you can try to fix it by hand every few days/weeks, or pay to have it re-bound, or tear out the pages and put them in a 3-ring binder. The above comes from what I feel is fairly standard student usage. Lots of going in and out of crowded backpacks, opening and closing several times a day, leaving stacked with other notebooks when not in use. I cannot speak to how these would hold up under different circumstances, but in my opinion it's the combination of frequent transportation and almost-daily use that makes them deteriorate so quickly. Laying both covers flat like a book instead of flipping the front around could also help increase longevity (assuming you have the space to do this). So basically: paper good, notebook bad. I would be stoked if they offered the paper loose-leaf so I could just put it in a binder with some nice big pocket folders and not have to worry about it anymore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great quality paper (could've used more user info/tips) UPDATE
Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2016
1 year **UPDATE** Still using the notebooks and pen system. These larger single subject notebook are great for someone who does a lot of writing or note taking. You can write on both sides of each sheet of paper. I am about to order my 2nd set of these. Attaching photos to show how much I have been able to fit on the pages. BTW, for people who tend to travel a lot or who tend to have problems organizing, this might be the best system of note keeping. I recently had to switch to a new laptop and it was tedious transferring other files to and from my Cloud storage. All the notes from these notebooks were easier to retrieve because of the system.

4.5 stars because I like everything about the paper itself, but I wish there was an explanation with them about the whole "archiving" thing. I almost ripped that tag right off before I noticed what the writing on it said. I'm VERY new to the smart pen system so this was a little confusing to me. Also, I had to learn what the 1 2 3 at the tops of the pages meant... Just a little overwhelming when the pen itself was so easy to use. For the Pros: As a writer, I love how roomy the pages are. Writing on the paper is very smooth. For anyone else wondering, you can write on the back side of the paper & you can also right past the side margin line. I tried it and it worked. I have to make these notebooks last because I don't have the right kind of printer for printing more!

Another thing that I still need to figure out is whether or not I can use highlighting markers without causing problems.
