"Dawn of A New Era's" lyrics come from The Book of Revelation and is riff after riff, part after part. Great, but hard to feel like you listened to a single song, or coherent idea. "Forhekst" begins with a clean guitar playing something so basic, it reminds me of the songs me & my best friend wrote on guitar after learning the intro's to Metallica's "one" & "Fade To Black". It's hard not to get a little pumped when listening to "Mother North" but it's not a electrifying ode to home like Nokturnal Mortum's "Ukraine" or Ancient Rites' "Fatherland". The next song, "Du Som Hater Gud" is my favorite on the album, particularly bc of the keys in the outro. "Immortality Passion" I'm not as familiar with, being buried in the middle of an album of parts & riffs. The title track suffers from this listeners fatigue as well, fading out into the instrumental outro to the album. "Transcendental Requiem For Slaves" foretells the previously mentioned 'Blessed From Below" with it's electronic leaning, but is more a metal song.
That effectively makes this the last worthwhile Satyricon. . Blast-happy Frost has a punishing drum style that comes through in the production. Compared to the ultra-refined Hellhammer & the busy Trym Torson, Frost is just fast. Satyr's music comes off like a less-refined Emperor, rather than a Mayhem, Burzum or Darkthrone clone. If you like Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk, you will probably enjoy this album.
