Just back from cruise. I love the SJCam SJ5000x Elite. While I have not explored every single aspect of the camera I will comment on a number of functions.
I got the camera a mere week before my cruise and I (with little time for experimentation) was able to make use of a number of features with little difficulty. While on the cruise I went SNUBA diving ( a cross between snorkel and scuba). I particularly bought the camera for this purpose. I got great movies and still clips underwater (down to 20 feet--I did not go deeper).
In addition to the underwater photography I took no other camera (my wife used her cellphone for pictures at times). I love the variable FOV which allowed me to vary the field of view for narrower shots that did not make me look so far from what I was photographing--a common problem with these camera for general photography. I also made use the EV function to over come strong backlight and wash out from dark foregrounds.
These functions and others that I used worked flawlessly and I am very pleased. The high definition movies and pictures are stunning.
The menu system is effective although slow to manipulate. I expect that is no different than other similar camera, as I can not think of a better way to handle all the features of the camera - AND IT HAS MANY FEATURES. While you can use it out of the box and It does very well functioning as simply as any other similar camera, the advanced features are present and available at the price of navigating the extensive menu system. A small price to pay -- and worth it!
I can not speak to a direct comparison to any other camera, as I do not have and have not used any other.
My only problem (and I probably have just not figured out this function) is that I did not know how much space I had left on my memory card so that I could decide when to change to another card rather than have it run out in the middle of some event.
But in comparison shopping before this purchase I will say this camera has a great deal more bang for the buck. My experience with this camera has been wonderful. I highly recommend the camera.

Great Action Cam for the Price
The camera started off a little shaky at first. the sound was being recorded very silent. I could hear any of the video that I recorded.After a firmware update and software downloads the audio was work ok. the video quality started off just fine. the 4K video is good ; but not so great for fast moving object. you would be better to use 1080p for faster moving object then the video good.The audio is not great ;but this is an action cam and it does the job. I have used the cam as a helmet cam, mounted on my mountain bike and mount on my car dash and the video is great. even when the object that it is attached to is shaking the video is still stable. I will definitely be buying another one of these action.you can take great photo from the video you record with this action cam as well.

The images are sharp and after some fiddling, the wifi works OK. I was using this camera for highway and for home security but barely a month after purchase, I have no camera and am told I am out $140.
The camera warped and the battery melted after 90 minutes attached to a windshield while plugged into the cigarette outlet of my car, normal practice.
This is Gizcam's response:

I think the temperature of windshield in your car is too high and you charged the camera at the same time, you can imagine how high the temperature, so the battery would be melted. Please note this point when you use electronic devices.
SJ5000 attached to dashboard via windshield suction cup, then it fall out of the windshield. So sorry that we won't be reponsible for the unexpected damage. Hope you can understand that.

The camera never fell out of the holder, it was still in place but simply loose because of the warped body.
But think about it, a sports camera that cannot be safely left operating on a hot day without the body melting and the battery creating a deadly fire risk. I hope the Amazon public understands Gizcam is avoiding responsible conduct and that this product may be hazardous.
