ReviewConstruction: The lens has a high-quality feeling to it. With its metal construction, it has a nice robust weight feeling, yet still lightweight. The focus and aperture rotate smoothly. |
ReviewThe 50mm focal length is especially great for portraits, and shots between 1-5 m in range (as seen below). There is still clear definition at the extremes of the focal lengths. |
ReviewWhen zoomed in to about 50 on the Fuji 18-55, the variable aperture goes to around f4, which is two stops of light *less* than this 50mm lens at f2. A stop of light is doubling or halving the amount of light, so those two stops of light essentially mean I get four times the amount of light at my preferred focal length. This has enormously improved my ability to capture quality images in low light. |

Exceeding quality for price. Lens feels solid and handling is pretty substantial. Construction also a plus.
Not that sharp at f2 but from about f2.8 it really shines. Nice bokeh, although not special.
Two problems:
1. Mine came with two spots on the outer glass that I could only somewhat fix with my lens cleaning tools. Still visible to the keen eye.
2. Why would you get a new lens for 60€ or more if you can get multiple vintage lenses with better aperture including adapter for the same amount?
Conclusion:
Get this if you are either a beginner not confident enough to buy used and/or looking for a cheap, short 50mm lens for your e-mount camera. The only upsides against vintage lenses is the saved length as you don't need an adapter and the somewhat guaranteed quality.
Alternative:
If you are willing to try yourself out more I can recommend looking for a good m42-NEX Adapter and the following lenses:
1. Helios 58mm 44-2 (more artistic)
2. Porst 50mm f1.7 (really cheap)
3. Canon EF 50mm f1.8 (tried and trusted)
4. Any Minolta Rokkor MC 3rd gen around 50mm and without radioactive material ;)
Cheers!
