Easy to install and set up, great quality/value for my dollar!
I purchased the Amcrest 960H 4CH system with a 500Gb HD for the purpose of employee security, reducing losses from theft and to monitor our retail bakery operation.Hiding the DVR: I opted to install the system myself, since I am familiar with electronics systems. The DVR box is unusually small, so I decided to hide the DVR in the back office inside of a cardboard box, with the top cut off for ventilation. I ran the cables from the DVR, through the wall and up to the ceiling and out to each of the four cameras. It took me approx 4 hours to run the cables and plug in the system by myself; and much less if I had a friend help me. Because the DVR was hiding up high on a shelf, I could NOT use the provided USB mouse. For $14 more, I installed a wireless mouse so there was one less cord to connect to the DVR.Things to consider: Remember that one end of the 60Ft cables attach to the cameras and the other end, to the DVR; check this before you run the cables. Half of my cable runs were over 60 Ft, so I purchased two 150Ft video/camera cables. The hardest part was running the cables through the drop down ceiling, while not getting them tangled together, or to other objects in the drop down ceiling. If you are thinking about installing your own system in your home or business, the most important thing to remember is to assemble and operate (play with) it prior to installing it.Benefits: Once installed, this system records great video, and you can monitor it from the back office or even remotely (using WiFi, not data). I purchased a 21 inch Asus monitor for $120, and the 960H video fills the screen. Now, if I have any questions about how our business is doing, i can remotely view the operation from home. I've already learned a lot about 'certain' employees work habits. I've turned down the system's recording resolution (fr/sec) from 30 to 15 fps, so that I can get more time recording on the 500Gb HD. I have yet to set up the motion alarm function.Remote Viewing: The system provides a way to remotely view the cameras on your device through the "Amcrest Link" App. I have an iPhone 6, and the video is not fluid, but still clear as ever. You can even snap a pict and save it on your device. Amcrest provides a way to connect your device using a QR Code. Amcrest shows the code on the screen based on your system's IP address, and you scan it with your device, and that's how you get connected! You know, this is a great system for the price, and I would recommend it as a viable solution to those needing a high value video archive/remote viewing system.UPDATE (6/24/16): About three (3) months after the installation, I upgraded the 500Gb HDD to a 3Tb HDD. Now I have at least a 5-week rolling loop of video. I've already used this to troubleshoot our production process in our kitchen, review customer issues at the front counter, etc. I've also worked with the Amcrest user interface on the DVR to figure out how to quickly locate and archive important video clips to a 128Gb thumb drive. My plan is to eventually move this DVR to my home and replace it with an 8-Channel DVR for my retail business location. I've attached 3 pictures of the location of my DVR; it is very inconspicuous. I ran the wiring through the wall up to a top shelf, where I have placed the DVR inside a box (top cut off). I have also placed a small hole in the box for the remote control sensor, in case I need to use it.

    Why I bought it:
My wife wanted to purchase a security monitoring service and after doing some research I was unimpressed with reviews and the cost for the services from many companies in my area, so I decided to buy and install my own. The quality of this product is great for what I was needing and I now have my own personal monitoring system around my home.

I have absolutely no experience with video security systems and this was incredibly easy to install. I honestly did not even read the instructions because it seemed pretty straight forward, and it was. The hardest part of the install was moving around my attic with the wiring, but that had nothing to with the product. It took about six hours to install all 4 cameras with most of that time being spent crawling through tight spaces in my attic to connect the wires into the video cameras. The time spent setting up the equipment was maybe 30 minutes. I was also very happy to see that I could hook this up to my television and now with the push of a button I can see all four cameras on my television screen. This is great for checking the front door when there is an unexpected visitor, or to see what the noise was in my backyard.

There is also an app for this video security system that works perfectly. From anywhere I can instantly check on my home. I have used the app every day since I installed the system and I have never had any problems with it.

I honestly do not have any complaints with this product and my wife is satisfied with these security system in place of a pricey monitoring system. This has saved me a lot of money and I am completely satisfied (I really wasn't expecting something this great considering how affordable it was). I would recommend this product to anyone in search of a home video security system. Feel free to ask me any questions you have.

I do not normally leave reviews however given the extensive research I did in choosing this product I feel obliged to add my personal review.

This product does exactly what it says and even better than I had ever expected, the overall package for the price is outstanding in every way. The unit itself is easy to setup and access, the software "Amcrest Link" to access your device and cameras from your smart phone is very day to setup, be careful to download the right app as there are other choices that do not work with this unit, Thanks to the tech support team for a very prompt reply to my question.

The cameras are excellent and very discreet so while they would be recognisable for anyone looking for them, if you did not know they where there you would not notice them. The quality is very impressive both day and equally at night.

I did have an electrical company setup all my wiring for the 4 camera on the outside of my house as this is a "wired" solution that in my opinion would be a little more reliable than a wireless solution. This was quite a job that I would not recommend for a novice if you want it to be done right.

Overall the unit has been operating for a few weeks now and I am really pleased and would 100% recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quality CCTV home security system without breaking the bank.

I've had this system for 4 years then I had a problem with the password last week and I could not sign on to the system or use the app. You need to fill in a online form and prove proof of purchase and when verified they call you and help reset your system. After filling in the form I received an email saying verification OK and gave me a job number and contact number if I wanted to call them (in the USA I used Skype to call). I called them and got thru to Eric you helped me get my password reset installed a program on my pc so I can work from my pc then helped me get my app sorted. Eric did lots which were beyond my capabilities and now system is working. great IT support and the system is as good as new

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy

very well packed product, arrived very quickly. Easy for my husband to set up both the equipment and the surveillance via internet, (we are still 'playing' with it!).
Negative: we live in Spain as Amazon knows from it's cookies, yet we bought this product (sent by Amazon EU Sarl) complete with UK plug! Upon contacting the seller, they declared surprise but immediatly sent out an EU plug.
Also, the cables, as with most cables, come with big ends, fat connectors, to fit through holes you drill in sides of window frames etc.
We found that the cables were not long enough at 60ft (10m), we need longer cables to go around the house

    1.0 out of 5 stars Set-Up Nightmare

The cameras and DVD work well. BUT I have found this system impossible to set-up to send email alerts and live pictures to my phone / tablet which is what I purchased it for. I accept this may be my fault but the tech support provided by the retailer (Foscam Digital Systems) is non-existent. After 1 hour waiting on the phone I was told to call back after 3pm. Then after another hour waiting, I was given a number in India to phone which is not recognised. Amcrest is in the USA and have promised to phone me to help. Time zones make this awkward. There are lots of video guids but they are aimed at the IT expert and not the ordinary IT user. If you buy this, you will need an IT expert to set it up for you.
