Simple programming took a little time but was far better than trying to figure out up to 15 or 20 codes for some manufacturers!

It was simply a matter of finding ONE code per device and then holding a button (whatever button) until it worked as you wanted it to work. Trying to SEE to enter multiple numbers and then hoping they work with only the power button to test is not the easiest thing in the world.

Both devices used the exact same codes (a single instruction booklet) and other than the color of the numbers and the number of buttons for devices at the top both look and feel the same. It's easy to coordinate and have them available.

Like most universals, they don't handle ALL the features of the master remote, just the most common ones. I've yet to see one that completely replaces the master. The closest was an old Philips I had years ago that had buttons A-H for extra features but that ran on a 9-V battery and gave up the ghost years ago. I hope these last as long!

I got this remote to replace the remote for my Philips 42" TV (model 130) and it works okay. I could not figure out how to get the "." (decimal point) to work with my TV. We want to watch Channel 3.1, not 3. Currently, we type in 3 (hit enter) and go up 1 channel with the Up/Down channel button. Not ideal.

We use these in 5 rooms in our home with a different brand tv in each room. Also use them with old VCRs and new Blu Ray players. Much easier setup than a newer Philips remote I tried (and returned) from a local chain. Only wish they offered both with 6 device control option.

UPDATE April 2013: I love these remotes so much I bought a spare set to have around in case these go kaput. Although I do wish I could get the sleep timer to work with my bedroom TV. I also needed a spare for my newest TV I got for my bedroom:  Sceptre E325BV-HDH 32-Inch 720p 60Hz LED HDTV (Black)  - I didn't care for the remote that came with the Sceptre and even though Sceptre wasn't listed on the code list, I entered 9999 and it paired right up within 15 seconds.

I consider myself to be moderately tech-savvy, setting up electronic gadgets doesn't frighten me. These are the best universal remote controls I've ever used. I have tried others in the past and returned them as they just don't function the way I want them to. Everything connected easily the first time using codes in the Quick Start Guide, except for my Echostar / Dish Network DP-301 satellite receiver which I had to look for in the main book.

Eh - sleep timers - I don't see any function for that on either remote but I never used the sleep timers on any of my TV's since the minute they turn off, the noise wakes me! My only complaint is I wish all the buttons glowed in the dark on the 6 device remote. I really, truly love this remote since my OEM Dish Network remote was starting to wear out, and this is SO intuitive it feels like the OEM while holding in my hand, is similar in size and most of the button placements as well.

Here is the age range of my cheapy non-high-tech A/V equipment:
Living Room TV: 32" Toshiba - NOT an HDTV, the old style made in 2004 - hoping Santa brings me a new TV :)
Living Room Other: 2003 Toshiba DVD/VCR combo, the 2002(?) Dish Network DCP-301, and even my 1996 JVC VCR, which I no longer use, but decided to try the remote control on this one also, and surprised it worked on something 15 years old.
Bedroom TV (the 3 device remote): 2002 old-style Toshiba TV (not HDTV) and the RCA digital converter box.

All the above items I had no problems connecting the very first try.

These two remotes appear to be complete garbage. I have a Sharp Aquos LCD TV and an Arris cable box with Time Warner cable, and neither one of these two units (which are both different) program the same way for either the TV or cable box, and neither perform all the needed functions. Apparently, the way to program these is to select the TV function (or STB for set top box) with a single code based on manufacturer, and then hold down the power button for a while until it turns off. I assume it is cycling through a number of different manufacturer-specific codes until the device works with one (you release the button to indicate it works). You then test other buttons, and if they don't work you hold the button down for many seconds until it finally does work. After a few hours of fiddling with both units, I was able to program one remote for the cable box correctly, but not the other. Neither unit would program correctly for the Sharp TV. I don't understand why Phillips could not have a unique code for my specific TV or STB. Maybe they really don't know the IR codes and their only hope is to try everything until maybe it works. In any case, if I don't hear back from Phillips in a day or two of this review, both of these units are going back to Amazon. I don't normally do Amazon reviews, but these items appear to be especially poorly engineered.

I was disappointed in this pair of remotes. I could not get them programmed correctly, nor could my IT guy. There is nothing intuitive about it and so many different codes are included with various AV components that it's difficult to find the right one. Also tech support told me I needed a code for my Internet provider. This was not included in the directions. Tech support was useless, they just wanted to argue with me and seemed to have a different set of directions. For instance I was told to go to page 16 of the directions and that was in Spanish, the English directions were earlier in the book. Tech support argued about that. I sent them back pronto.
