What's 35 years old is new again.
I've owned one of these for the past 35 years. I prior to that owned a Boyscout knife with the same identical blades though in regular steel. I've had one of these on me for 50 years now every single day. Alas my Victorinox finally had the hole punch break off when I did something I really shouldn't have with it. I remember paying $11.50 for it in 1983. Nothing to do except get another one. I actually looked at some other versions, but this one is the one to have in my opinion and experience. My old one was anodized red, a candy apple red. Very pretty when new. However during the years all that red was worn away except under the edge covered by the hole punch blade. Even the waffled raised portion on the sides was barely left as it was nearly worn smooth. I did grind off the lanyard on it way back when as it wasn't useful to me and will wear a hole in your pants pockets. The brass rivets were worn almost away from riding in my pocket during all these years. So I ordered the black Pioneer model (also what it was called in 1983). I quite like the black finish it looks nice in a more understated way than the red did. The surfaces seem more polished than the old one though of course maybe they were more polished way back when. It also made clear how much I had worn away the knife blade from sharpening over the years. It is sharper than I remember the old one being out of the box. The old one had a much fancier box which I still have. Since it has never been in that box since the day I purchased it I don't mind a plain box.I notice some people complain of the knife being very hard to open. At least the one I received that is not at all true. In fact, though my old one is easier than when new, this one is even easier to open the blade on than my old one. And yes I kept my old one oiled at the hinges. The middle portion between the blades is brass on my old one and appears another metal on the new one.So, these blades are so adaptable to so many uses. I'll not go on about that though I've done so many things with my old Pioneer. What's old is new again even better maybe. I believe the stainless is of higher quality.
