I've used the chain whip and cassette removal tools, the crank puller, the chain breaker, the pedal wrench, the spoke wrenches, and the allen wrenches. I had a chain breaker already but it's small and designed to be carried in an emergency on-bike kit; the one in this Bikehand shop kit is much better. I had a pedal wrench from Park and they're about the same. I had spoke wrenches and allen wrenches, too, and I think the allen wrenches in this Bikehand kit are awesome – well-shaped, strong, big enough to get some leverage when needed. I already had a chain cleaner and grunge brushes which are nearly identical to the ones included in this kit. The included tire levers seem fine and there are other things which I had already, but certainly there's no objection to getting nice duplicates of simple tools I already had. For example, I already had a fancy chain-stretch checker but I think I like the simpler one included in this kit better.
The included cable cutter and crimping tool is awesome and I wish I had bought one years ago.
There are a bunch of cone wrenches that I have no idea how to use. I'll get there eventually and it's good to know they're waiting for me when I get motivated to learn or ever need to mess with my cones.
I added a flat-head screwdriver, a small variable wrench, and a few other items such as cable ends, KMC Missing Links, rubber strips/shims, and zip ties. I removed the grease because I don't like the idea of it possibly leaking all over my nice tools; I keep such things in a separate case.
The toolbox itself is really nice. There is thick foam with slots designed to firmly hold many of the heavier tools at the bottom of the case, a bunch of compartments for small items in the top shelf of the case, and an uncompartmented middle shelf for everything else. Both the top and middle shelves can be lifted out.
While this kit doesn't include every tool I can think of, it is a great selection for anyone just getting started or, like me, has some tools but nothing like a complete selection. I would have preferred for the kit to include one or two more durable tools rather than the grease and tire patch kit and other expendables, but that is really my only complaint and it is a darn small one.
Is this Bikehand kit as good as the similar Park tool set? I don't know. I have some Park tools, they're great, and I don't see much difference in function or quality between those Park tools and the Bikehand equivalents in this kit. This kit is for sure way less expensive than the equivalent Park tool set and I'm very pleased with the value I received for the money I spent.
It generally has most of the bike specific tools one may need for most types and styles of bikes and their components. (Especially important to me was it having a External Bearing Cartridge BB Tool for my 2 pc Shimano Crankset.) It does however lack many common tools such as a adjustable wrench, various types of pliers (channel lock, dikes, locking (vice grip), etc., and other "convenience" items that would make up a more complete "shop-like" tool set. Of course, anyone doing bike maintenance/repair from home would want to have a variety of tools specific to the bike they will be working on. This kit has all the basic bike tools anyone would need.
The box itself is a hefty plastic, and has a place to put a lock on it. There are two removeable tool trays and the bottom of the box has cut-out foam tool positions. There is room enough to fit other tools and other equipment you might want to add as well.
This kit is made in Taiwan, so I recommend purchasing the two year warranty plan (just in case). Amazon is pretty good at honoring these warranties (at least that's my experience). But I don't anticipate having any need to return it.
I recently completed a "major tune-up"/overhaul and brake components upgrade on my old Rockhopper (probably a $80 or more job - parts not incl.- at your avg. bike shop) and found that the tools themselves were sturdy, comfortable, and easy to use for my purposes. (This set will more than pay for itself in money and time saved atl a bike shop).
**I did, however, sort of round off my 4mm ball end hex wrench trying to loosen a M5 screw that was super stuck. I ultimately had to remove it with vice grip pliers (not incl. in kit). That was my fault anyway. The wrench still works fine though. **
***So here's the kicker! When I initially placed my order for this item, I realized that I forgot to get the two year warranty. I tried to order the warranty separately but could not do so unless it was ordered with the item at time of purchase. I was told to reorder the item and warranty and request a return for the first tool kit. Turns out, Amazon would not accept the tool box as a return due to some kind of hazardous product policy, so they reimbursed me for the whole purchase and insisted I keep the kit I'd already received. Now since it was taking so long to receive the second kit, and I knew I was going to be purchasing other tools and parts, etc., plus I decided I really didn't need the 2yr warranty in the long run, I cancelled the second box but Amazon left me with the extended warranty anyway. In the end I ended up with the kit itself at the price of the warranty which I'd never use even if I had a tool or accessory break or become damaged. ***
Again, I do recommend this purchase and hope you home mechanics find that working on your own bike is rewarding on a number of levels. Home maintenance will save you time and money, while you get to know the ins and outs of your own bike. You'll experience miles and miles of satisfying riding.
Happy trails to you all!
