SAMPLE RECIPE: Quinoa and Avocado Salad

SERVES: 2 / PREP TIME: 10 minutes

This power salad packs nutrition and flavor. The quinoa adds a crunchy, nutty flavor and is a great source of protein. The avocado adds a creamy balance, and contributes healthy fats. Round out the salad with some tomatoes and cucumbers, and you have a hearty, satisfying meal that will leave you feeling great. You can even use this as a filling for the Salad in Your Hand (page 119). Omit the cherry tomatoes if you’re following the Thyroid-Support Plan.

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, stir together the quinoa, avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, cilantro, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and lemon juice.

2. Chill for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

3. Serve immediately, or keep refrigerated for 2 to 3 days.

Recipe Tip: To make this a dish for a holiday party, use red quinoa. The red and green colors will be festive complements to any seasonal buffet.

I gave this book 3 star's only because it has 150 recipes that are smooths, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and deserts.The problem I have is when I looked at it on Amazon that it showed pictures and pictures are important so people can see if they want to cook it or not especially when some of the recipes have silly names like " The Lady and the Tramp Bowl" and " good morning Popeye"When searching for picture's of the recipes on Google crazy picture's came up. The few pictures that they have don't have a name so it's hard to match up to the recipe and are few and far in between.Would I buy it again. No

The human body regulates and maintains the PH balance by eliminating excess acid from the body. But at times if our diet results in over eating certain kind of food item then the body acid can become imbalanced without our body really responding and showing until we may become sick and ill.
This cookbook has about 150 delicious recipes which will help in balancing the diet and getting body back in health. There are many nice recipes including snacks and drinks which is great. I did try a couple of these recipes and they turned out to be really good. There were a lot of very helpful information about maintaining a healthy diet. I found this book easy to understand and very knowledgeable. I was lucky to receive this at discount or no cost for my honest and unbiased review.

Well laid out book. Explained in a layman friendly way. Lots of recipes to choose from.

I have been interested in lowering the amounts of acidic foods in my diet for quite a while. I have hypothyroidism and it's definitely suggested by medical practitioners that a more alkaline based diet is the way to go to boost your thyroid health and ability to output hormone.
This book has a lovely glossy of "foods to avoid" and also "foods that are excellent" right in the beginning which makes it easy to reference.
Although I haven't gone through the diet plan yet (I intend to). I did try out three of the recipes.
LAYERED RATATOUILLE was a little heavy on ingredients but tasted like a top chef made it, absolutely delicious!
BETTER THAN A COFFEEHOUSE PUMPKIN DRINK was very simple and easy to make, limited ingredients and so very good!
BETTER THAN GIRL SCOUT COOKIES limited ingredients, simple and these really are close to a clone to the namesake.

I like the way this book is easy to read. It provides a recipes, lists of foods to eat and a list of foods to stay away from. The book contains empirical data for the reasons to eat an Alkaline diet

I went in each book on alkaline foods/diets and looked at them all. I have the extra challenges of inflammatory breast cancer, diabetes, fibromyalgia, liver and kidney problems, and inflammation throughout my body, I had to find a good book fast! This did not disappoint. Thanks to the author for a clear, concise product. You can jump right in. The water's fine!

I'm glad I chose this recipe book over the others offered. It just arrived so I have not tried any recipe yet, but the book is just what I was looking for - an easy to follow and understand guide to this diet. All the recipes look wonderful and the photography and design of the book is a huge plus for a designer like me. My mom was so taken with the book, I'm ordering one for her as well!

It's very nice, easy-to-follow book. I just am sometimes a bit confused, as the role of some foods remains unclear. For example, on p19 it says that Oats are alkalizing and should be consumed, whereas on p21 it says that Oats are acidic. As a lover of morning-oatmeal, I wonder what to take away from this.
