"...so much so that they do not form the proper seal and so are not at all effective for me...." Read more
Customers like the comfort of the earplugs. They say the soft foam is more comfortable than some of the harder materials, and the flat ends make side sleeping comfortable. They appreciate that the squishier foam doesn't make their ear canals hurt.

They are great for protection from lawnmowers, etc., and allow for complete silence while they sleep. I had been using Laser Lite Foam Earplugs (hey, they're pink and yellow, but not marketed towards women) which are smaller than many standard ear plugs and easier to squish. With enough twisting I can fit them in but they bulge out because they're too long for my smaller ears. Because of the bulging out, they tend to fall out at night, and I wake, have to rummage through my night stand for the package for a new pair, get them in, then fall back asleep. I also found I was more prone to irritations in my ears after any prolonged use of them. Probably not because of the actual ear plug but because the size was wrong for my ear.
So enter these, the Howard Leight Women Earplugs, in Pink. These are solid pink and visibly much smaller when next to the other pair. Made of a different type of foam than the Laser Lite. I am able to fit these in my ears a bit easier. Once in they do NOT fall out.
They do allow me to hear a bit more noise, however their noise rating is slightly lower when compared to the Laser Lites I was using (30 decibel vs 32 decibels). So far, after a few months of regular use (thanks Subscribe an Save!) I notice minimal irritation which is a huge bonus. This is why a smaller size (not the color) of these is important.
So the pink issue. I am a women, I have no problem with them being marketed towards me.... I hate the color pink, too much of it as a kid but these go in my ears. I do see where this is a marketing issue, I know why they do it but I do think it is worth revisiting. Make them teal, or do a swirl of colors like the Laser Lites. Call them Petite, Compact, something like that. I know my tween boy would prefer not to wear pink ear plugs, but these do fit him better than any others for now. However, the "for women" and "pink" won't stop me from buying them because my gosh, they work so much better and the difference is huge (or, small!).

They definitely reduce most noises to an acceptable level, and help me get a good night sleep at home, on overnight trains, long flights, hotels with thin walls, parents' and friends' houses, etc. Anyone else find that all their relatives and friends snore? Just me? Carry on, then.
I take them with me whenever I travel. They even help me destress on daytime train rides when I end up stuck near someone who feels the inexplicable need to turn their tinny music UP TO ELEVEN whilst enclosed in a metal tube with other weary travellers. They won't completely drown out the dulcet tones of someone shouting into their cellphone as they describe Aunt Martha's kidney stone, or how horrible their last date was - but they'll help you feel less stabby about it, as it won't feel as if that person is driving each and every syllable directly into your ears.
I've used these for years, and will continue to use them as long as they keep making them.
Edit: I've seen a comment or two referring to how these should be for short women or some silly nonsense like that. Just like how shoe or bra cup size aren't dependent on height or frame (or gender, hee!), so too are our ear canal sizes not dependent on height or frame or gender. I'm 5'11", female, with fairly broad shoulders, and need to use smaller ear plugs. I'm not particularly a fan of pink (nor do I understand why things marketed to women must be pink), but as I don't look at them when they are in use, I don't particularly care that these are fuschia. Makes them easy to find in the sheets the next morning if I pull them out in my sleep. The carrying case is also handy for travel; I stick that inside my folded eye mask (along with a travel-sized toothbrush and tube of toothpaste), and off I go!

These are small enough to get the job done for the first time in my whole life. I still have to squeeze them to almost nothing and pull my ear canal wide open to insert them, but once that's done, they fit beautifully and don't hurt. The sound blocking is decent - I can still hear my super-loud neighbours upstairs when they talk to their *(&*(^*( talking speaker (just a note that these things need to die and I pray one day are banned in apartments and condos - no one needs to hear you ask your speaker what time it is 400 times an hour ARGH) but those speakers are designed to be so loud everyone on earth can hear all your business anyways, so I might just be the old lady who doesn't want or need to hear all your Google search results at subway announcer volume.
Other than the demon speakers, it blocks everything else. I have a very old building with no insulation between units and this blocks the walking noise, joist creaking, and most conversation - only electronic devices on loud volume like those speakers can break through. A good buy.

I am an average size female but they are nearly 1/2 the size of the one I was hoping to replace and thus sadly don't make good contact in the hear canal to block the sound out.
