Product Description

With 9 presets that were finely tuned to emulate the most legendary organs from the ‘60s and beyond, the B9 Organ Machine will transform your guitar or keyboard. Control the instrument’s signature percussive click and sweet modulation. Blend your dry signal to create lush layers. Enough tone wheel and combo organ inspiration to light your fire and cook up some green onions! Features: Transform the tone of a guitar or keyboard into that of a convincing full body, electric organ9 presets that were finely tuned to emulate some of the most popular and classic electric organ tones Control over percussive attack level, modulation speed, organ and dry volume Rugged and easy to use EHX 9.6DC-200 PSU included.

Some troubleshooting steps:

1. Make sure you are testing the B9 with its supplied AC Adaptor. Using 3rd party power supplies that are not able to supply at least 100mA at 9VDC could cause erratic behavior such as high frequency oscillations and popping noise when changing modes.
2. If the B9 does not track properly, try plugging your instrument's output directly into the input of the B9. If tracking problems continue try using the neck pickup of your guitar and make sure your Volume and Tone knobs are set to maximum.

B9 Organ Machine

With 9 presets that were finely tuned to emulate the most legendary organs from the ‘60s and beyond, the B9 Organ Machine will transform your guitar or keyboard. Control the instrument’s signature percussive click and sweet modulation. Blend your dry signal to create lush layers. Enough tonewheel and combo organ inspiration to light your fire and cook up some green onions!

Dry volume knob

Controls the volume of the untreated instrument level at the ORGAN OUTPUT jack.

Organ volume knob

Controls the overall volume of the ORGAN preset.

Mod knob

MOD controls the speed of modulation. Modulation can be completely turned off when MOD is set fully counterclockwise. The type of modulation is contingent on the preset selected. The different types of modulation available are vibrato, tremolo and chorus. See the preset descriptions for modulation type.

Click knob

CLICK controls percussive click level. It was designed to simulate the harmonic percussion effect on classic B3 and C3 organs. The click will be added to the very first note or chord played. The click will retrigger only when current notes have been released and their amplitude falls below a threshold. For a few presets, CLICK controls parameters unique to the preset. See the preset descriptions for details.

Preset descriptions

1. Fat & Full- This sound adds an extra octave below and above to make your guitar sound twice as big. Fills out any band in an instant! MOD Type: Chorus.

2. Jazz- This preset has the cool, smooth jazz tone reminiscent of the late great organist Jimmy Smith. MOD Type: Chorus.

3. Gospel- This preset has the upper octave drawbars added to capture that great soulful organ tone. MOD Type: Chorus.

4. Classic Rock- This preset captures the classic rock sound of songs like Procol Harum's “Whiter Shade of Pale.” Add a touch of distortion for a classic dirty organ. MOD Type: Chorus.

5. Bottom End- This preset has the lower draw bar sound. Perfect for adding bottom to your guitar or playing B3 bass sounds. With the CLICK control up you can lay down a bass line like the one on Sugarloaf’s “Green Eyed Lady.” MOD Type: Chorus.

6. Octaves- This preset uses the fundamental tone plus one octave above. This sound is great for songs like Led Zeppelin’s “Your Time is Going to Come.” MOD Type: Chorus. CLICK control adds not only key click, but higher harmonics.

7. Cathedral- Turn up the reverb and you are at the seat of a giant cathedral organ! Psychedelic rock tones easily pour out. MOD Type: Tremolo. CLICK adjusts the tremolo depth.

8. Continental- This is the classic combo organ sound similar to classic songs “96 Tears,” “Woolly Bully” and “House of the Rising Sun.” MOD Type: Vibrato. CLICK controls vibrato depth.

9. Bell Organ- If you crossed an electric piano with an organ this is it. MOD Type: Tremolo. CLICK adjusts the amount of bell or chime added to the sound.

This is a great unit it sounds great and simple to use. From a guitar synth player point of view this unit track extremely well considering that I am using it with flamenco nylon string guitar with Fishman P/U. However, the unit input level is very sensitive when using with the active P/U; have not tried it with passive P/U yet. But I find that it works best with a very low guitar output as it’ll give you a better control over the dynamics. As a result I find that it is a little bit tricky to switch the guitar output level back and forth between using the B9 and straight guitar. I also read that some of the reviewer were having problems with the dynamics, try lowering your guitar output it may help. Overall, it works great and most of all it’s portable.

It's happened. I can play the guitar. I can play the bass. I can tap out some pretty mean drums (with the help of some electronic wizardry). But, I could never play the organ. Now I can! Keyboards were the first instrument I *started* to learn. Loved them. But my first band didn't need a keyboardist as much as a guitarist. I switched quickly to the wonderful world of guitar. And that was it for my first love, the keyboard.

It's my second chance. I've always had faith in Electro-Harmonix stuff. And so took a chance on this crazy idea-- turning the sound of a guitar into an organ. It works for me! For a guitarist with a normal mindset-- torturing the strings with wild twisting and turning-- well, stop all that for a moment. Playing the organ as a guitarist is pretty cool, but there are some limitations in what you should be doing when playing the organ. Not bending strings is one of them. Of course, if you like what you hear, bend away.

This device is super-fantastic for a home studio. I dub my guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, and FINALLY I can layer on some convincing organ.

Can't wait for the follow-up E-H C9 that is destined to add even more organ sounds! I'll post a note about it in the future once I get my hands on one. If you're a guitarist with the hankering for some nice organ sounds, the B9 will make your day! Love it!

I had ordered thru a well-known retailer, who didn't ship for weeks. So, disappointed, I finally called them to cancel. (Actually, my wife took on the responsibility. I hate making those kinds of calls.) The moment she was off the phone, I punched in an order to Amazon and it was delivered to doorstep in no time. I am always amazed with Amazon's quick deliveries!

Really good tracking, better than Roland GR33. Sounds are interesting but can't handle complex chords , three note chording at best if you want even output. You will definitely need a compressor to even out the response. If you can't play clean and insist on guitar techniques such as bending notes this is'nt for you.
OK, I've had it for almost a year now and I have a different opinion: If you want organ sounds get an organ. After fiddling with this thing It still has an uneven output with compression. Like the GR33 it's seductive at first and then you just can't help but think it sounds fake. I 've tried it in a band setting and it just doesn't sound right. The uneveness of the output with its unpredicable spikiness makes it a deal killer for plating at gigs. Even the cheap Casio keyboard I play has a better tone. Like a lot of things : a novelty at best.

Beautiful sounds. Very well emulated. There are a couple of them that i just do not like and have not found a good use for.
The only big con: string bending and sliding DO NOT SOUND OK at all. They sound weird. Maybe i should have figured this beforehand. The sound looses the organ sound.
Nor you can play a big chord cause the sound gets quite muddy. If you play 1, 2 or up to 3 stringa at a time, and stay there, it sounds glorius.
So, you have to avoid bending, sliding and certain guitar techniques to make this pedal sound real.

If you adapt to what you can do and cannot do with this pedal, it is a very fun and rewarding tool.

I've had this pedal a few weeks and have found it to be a great addition to my board. I play electric bass through it and - as reviews and company literature says - it sounds a bit squirrelly if you go below C on the A string (or the equivalent on the E string), but otherwise it sounds great. If you don't play with even attack it can get odd-sounding too. I can play fairly evenly but I still use a pedal compressor before it and my rig has a rack compressor - which helps in loud live situations. The jazz organ and the cathedral organ sound are favorites but they all have something to them. I think it's a great pedal.

Sounds authentic. However, you can't just blindly strum your guitar and think it will sound like you have a keyboard player. You have to play it like an organ player would play the real thing. I bought the B9 and the C9 and decided I liked the C9 better. I returned the B9 not because it was bad, but because I liked the C9 slightly better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tracking and sound quality
Reviewed in Canada on December 24, 2018
This pedal just plain works. It tracks playing without having to change your style or get finicky, and most of the organ sounds are useful (the "chime" voice, not so much.) I've used everything up to and including guitar synths with multiac guitars, and the tracking on this is as good or better than any. The first week I had it, I used it on a special event background music gig, a pub gi, and a jazz gig. Each time, the other sidemen (who are extremely picky) not only didn't complain, they actually praised the sound. I'm not Jimmy Smith or Booker T, but I can get their sound now.
