Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I don't have my keyboard yet, waiting a bit before buying it, but do have the pen. I opted to buy the pen that comes with the Surface Pro 3, I'm just use to it and got a good deal on it.
How can I attest to all this... well, I purchased it to replace my laptop on trips. 3 days after it arrived, I was off to the west coast. This consisted of a total travel time of approximately 8 hours, with a 1.5 lay over in Atlanta, on my way to beautiful Newport Beach, California. I made sure I had everything I needed installed and ran it through some testing with the factory power settings... everything came back with solid numbers. I made sure to fully charge it before leaving and never shut it off... placed it on my backpack and off to the airport I went.
On my first flight (2 hours), I watched one movie and did a little work. At the Atlanta airport, I verified my reservations, checked my email and did some surfing while waiting for my connecting flight. On my second flight (4.5 hours), I watched two more movies and surfed a bit to look up some restaurants to go to once I arrived in Cali (Yelp, Google Maps, Bing Maps, etc)... was saving my appetite for some good Asian food.
I got to John Wayne Airport, in beautiful California, with approximately 16% battery remaining! I am very impressed with it so far! Fits perfectly on that tiny airline table and the sound through my Sennheiser HD 439 Headphones was excellent!

I had settled for the Elsse Premium Folio Case when I purchased my Surface 3, there wasn't much available at the time. The quality of he Elsse is sub-par, the tablet doesn't fit snug and the case doesn't protect the corners of the tablet at all. Also, the on-screen keyboard is pretty good but, even with the pen, I really need a keyboard especially for work.
Once I got back from my vacation, I knew I had to invest a little bit more so the research began. I ended up ordering the Microsoft Surface 3 Type Cover and the Fintie Premium PU Leather Case. So far I've received the Fintie Case, should have my Type Cover on Monday. This case has excellent build quality... my tablet fits nice and snug plus the case incorporates some corner protection which is what I wanted.

I just received my Surface 3 Type Cover today, I'm typing this review with it. It works very well, easy to type, very responsive and quite comfortable. I thought it would be a bit awkward due to the size but I was pleasantly surprise... didn't have any problems... and yes, I actually type, not peck :) The touch pad works good too. You also use it as a mouse, left & right clicking work perfectly. The keyboards keys are lighted and the brightness can be adjusted with the function keys... easy to type in total darkness.
The only problem is when the tablet is in my Fintie Premium PU Leather Case, the keyboard magnets are not strong enough to work/connect in the angled position... can only use the keyboard in the flat position unless I take the Surface out of the case.

For a long time I have toyed with the idea of replacing my tablet. While I knew that a newer tablet would serve me better than my outdated one, I was questioning the practicality of it, since tablets are so limited in what they can do. The Surface 3, with full Windows, actual programs, and a real keyboard just cried out to me, and after reading a million tablet reviews, and watching dozens of review videos, I knew I had to have one. After watching several video reviews, I went with the bigger memory. Although most reviews seemed to indicate that the base model would be sufficient for my needs, I went with the larger memory, just to be on the safe side.
When the UPS man FINALLY got to my house, I was waiting (im)patiently on the front porch. I almost kissed him, grabbed my box (containing the Surface 3, type cover, stylus pen, and cover) and practically sprinted into the house. Oooooh, was I ever excited!!!!!! I unpacked it, turned it on, and easily followed the steps to set it up and personalize it. (My one difficulty - I had to make SEVERAL attempts at entering the stupid squiggly letters while setting up my account, as they were so squiggly I was having a hard time deciphering them. That was a bit aggravating!)
While exploring the device, I found handy little videos that conveniently popped up with clear, concise answers to all my questions, eliminating the need for exhaustive trial-and-error-and-error-and-error or internet and help forum searches. Anything that wasn't instantly intuitive was painlessly discoverable, making the "getting acquainted" phase stress-free and even enjoyable.
It just couldn't have been easier!!! I was able to quickly and easily add apps and programs, delete pre-installed junk I didn't want, personalize my tablet, configure my start page, desktop, and task bar exactly the way I wanted it. I have multi-tasked, streamed video, searched the internet - all without lagging and dragging. I am not a gamer, so I can't answer to that, but this baby does everything I need it to do, and it does it fast.
Unlike most other tablets, the Surface 3 has PORTS!!!! You are not restricted by having to always go through the Cloud. It can accept anything I need to hook up to it, allowing me to use the device as a cookbook by inserting my memory stick full of recipes, access photos, music, and other files from memory cards, upload pictured directly from my phone or camera, or anything else I want to access, just like a real computer.
I got the type cover and stylus pen as well. I'm still learning my way around with the stylus, but it it has worked flawlessly with the little bit I have used it for so far. (I do think it is expensive as an "add-on," and it bugs me that the tablet itself has no way to store the stylus. The awesome stylus pen that I use with my Galaxy Note 3 works great, was free with my phone, has a convenient storage slot in the phone AND notifies me if I accidentally walk away and leave it on the table - NONE of which is true of the Surface pen and tablet. I am going to be ticked off if - when? - I lose this pen!)
The keyboard is wonderful. It really feels like a real keyboard. While the screen keyboard is fine for some things, if you are really DOING something, there is no substitute for a keyboard. The type cover attaches easily and securely, ad functions as a cover if you don't purchase a case. The keyboard was the final piece in creating a convenient, lightweight, fully-functioning replacement for my laptop when I am on the road. My laptop has now been officially grounded!
I really do love this computer, and I have a feeling that we will soon be a multiple-Surface 3 family!

And more importantly don't be fooled into thinking Microsoft gives a damn or will help in any way.
I have it plugged into a dock and 2 monitors, it says it switches out of tablet mode when i plug it into the dock, well the SP3 screen switches to desktop, but, any program other than windows still thinks its running in tablet mode!
Big problem, programs like google chrome, adobe, explorer etc all open on my monitors in tablet mode so the tab and button bars on top are MASSIVE and scaling just makes the window smaller, not the task and button bars.
Even more annoying is when I use the print function, the print options window on my monitor is MASSIVE, so i drag it down to the SP3 screen then its micro small and part of the options fonts and selection pins are cut off so there hard to read.
Also, when I use the windows search function on my monitors about 30% of the listed files that show up only show half the letter font, the letters are cut off?
I have none of these issues when I plug my laptop into the same dock!
In short this is not a suitable replacement for a laptop if you want to dock it and run multiple monitors, it will drive you bonkers.
its great undocked, just don't buy a dock.
Rick G.
I could go on forever.
when i plug my laptop into the same doc, no issues, it works per
