Not a kickstarter backer
First thing I like to note is that I'm not a kickstarter backer for this game, and I personally think this game has a lot of bad press due to the delays and kickstarter backers expecting too much from the product, horrible marketing campaign, etc. This review is based on the game itself as a standalone product. This video game is essentially a Mega Man game with a dash mechanic with high emphasis on speed runs (more on this later) as it has the same theme and plot you'd expect from Mega Man: Robot masters (Mighty Numbers) go out of control, and it's up to you to re-program them/snap them out of their trance or virus, etc and save the world from a mad scientist.Despite the infinite dash mechanic and optional free boost upgrades after each death, the game is really challenging like past Mega Man games. The first boss may be challenging, but after the defeating one, the rest of the bosses should be easy (aside from the final) after you find out which mighty number ability is weak against the other as you are able to absorb and use the ability of the defeated Might Number. This is not to say the levels are easy as like other mega man games, the enemy placement and environmental hazards can pose a problem to those new to this type of game, and a lot of trial and error is required to beat the level.Controls are very responsive and fluid with no framerate stutters even with the infinite dash (except for the online mode). My only issue with gameplay is the shifting different weapons in real time which require too much button presses to initiate. Would be great if the have two dedicated buttons (namely shoulder buttons) to where you can scroll through them and memorize the number of button presses instead of holding down a button to initiate weapon select, scroll down to choose your weapon then press another button to select it.New mechanics not present in mega man games are:-The already mentioned infinite dash-You can grab onto ledges and pull yourself up-When enemies get enough damage they start to glow a certain color where you can dash into them for an instant kill and absorb them instead of doing more shots with your blaster. The bosses also glow, but you have to dash into them before they recover, like white health in street fighter. The glow/dash mechanic not only do massive damage, but also give you point bonuses and increase meter on special number ability moves-High score system. This game is very focused on combos and how fast you complete each stage rather than a grand adventure to defeat each boss. After completing a level, the game present you with a letter grade, and completion time. The level designs are really creative and each feel very unique. Unlike traditional Mega Man games it feels that the levels are centered around the speed runner with the combo and infinite dash mechanic making it seems like it's catered to the perfectionist. This is also enthized in the trophies achievements on PS4All of the 8 robot masters (Mighty Numbers) you defeat have a very distinctive personality and it's fun to interact with them. When you defeat one, they will show up and give commentary and/or help in another level where their ability is super effective against. The music is not very good. You can barely hear the background music from all the voice and sound effects from the default setting. I had to change the sound configuration from the settings menu. Even the the music is not as great as past Mega Man titles.Online is horrible. Tons of lag and disconnects. Totally unplayable at the time of this review. Even if you are able to connect and play with someone there's a high chance you'll drop out or experience a glitch where you're unable to progress.Overall I think this is a great spiritual successor to Mega Man and it has all the right elements just more modernized. I just think that the external drama surrounding the game lead to some not trying out the game because of it

It is a good game for kids or maybe an older kid that played it for an older system. I think it is cool that you can now save your progress unlike the old Mega Man games my six year old loves it until he gets stuck on an area then he asks me to beat it for him and I say no so he just picks a new level to play until it happens again but I keep on encouraging him to play the same level he is stuck on and eventually he passes it and loves it all again until he gets stuck again LOL

This game is awful. The graphics are terrible for a PS3/ PS4 game. This looks like it was made for the PS1. First off i was a huge mega man fan and have beaten all of them. They were fairly difficult to beat but this game, mighty number 9, is nearly impossible to beat. There are tons of insta deaths that make this game more frustrating then enjoyable. I bought this game when it first came out but gave up trying to beat it because of the frustration from insta deaths. I picked it up again now to give it a second shot but my rating will have to remain the same. im sure there are hard core gamers out there that have easily fought threw the frustration and finished the game but i dont have the time nor the patience for that anymore. A game should always be challenging but not to the point where u are forced to give up. Its quite ridiculous. Or atleast have a casual mode with infinite lives so u dont have to keep restarting from scratch. Highly do not recommend.

Without a doubt the game needs polish. The visuals and writing are among the games weakest aspects, but they're ultimately not enough to negatively impact the game for me.

What did cause it to lose marks was the various mechanics that are never explained to you. I'm not someone who likes handholding in games but there are some core gameplay elements that never seem to appear story-wise. Another negative aspect was the voice acting. There are well voice acted characters in the game, but the quality often varied and others lack energy or proper directing. Lastly there's wasted potential. This is more of a personal peeve of mine, but there's moments in the game where simply giving a bit more story, creative character movements, and gameplay mechanics. (Say shooting diagonal or upwards. Seriously I had to acquire Pyrogen's power just to blow up a barrel on top of a ladder surrounded by conveyor belts and spikes.)

The Mighty No.'s (sans Beck) along with Ray are ultimately what saved the game for me and are why I'd be open to a sequel. I LOVE Dynatron's design and her character while on a rampage and after rampage. (What little we see of it.) The others' sibling-esqe dynamic also warmed my heart a bit. These characters have a chance to overtake others of the same genre if they're expanded upon a little. Give them a bit of time to grow and put them in a more polished product. Then we might see a true challenger to the Megaman franchise.

For the price it's not bad but I can understand if anything mentioned are deal breakers even at this price.

As Mega Man fan, and child of the 80s, I can tell you this game is legit. People who bash this read, "Mighty No 9" but see and expect 'Mega Man'. This IS NOT Mega Man! The play, style and characters successfully make you feel like it's Mega Man. That is an achievement considering Inafune lost the design and ownership rights to Mega Man when he left Capcom. This isn't the 80s or 90s Mega Man. When he left Capcom, they retained ownership of his works and designs after 23 years of designing. So, he used Kickstarter to fund this game. What you have is Mega Man play style and feel, but the skin is Beck, or Mighty No 9. Being 2016 (and the 80s or 90s) there are some updates to Beck:
1. UNREAL ENGINE! For Mega.. Mighty No 9.
2. The Graphics are beautiful and fluid on the PS4.
3. The Play style is much faster, and you're rewarded for speed. It adds a bit of depth to combat that upgrades Mega Ma...Mighty's abilities. Once you get use to the controls and his abilities, hold on to your seats.
4. Even though you still get new abilities when you beat a boss like Battalion, something feels fresher and nostalgic all at the same time
5. New modes that keep you playing and challenging yourself and new characters

Now, I will say that the story is a bit bland, but when was Mega Man ever deep?? When did you ever take the characters seriously? At the same time it stays challenging. For a Kickstarter game, this feels like it was made with love and with the intent of not only satisfying TRUE fans of the old Mega Man, but also something to grab those people who're just looking for a great platformer that will make you love it and hate it in the same moment.

However, I can't give this 5 stars because the story is watery. With all the money raised for this game and the use of the Unreal Engine, they could've done more with the character animations, i.e., moving mouths, eyes, etc. You're left listening to bad dialogue, strange and unfamiliar characters staring at you... creepily. This is not acceptable for a game with an entire team, $ and time. Getting past that, you have a really fun and beautiful game once Beck or Ray are doing their thing. Jaded reviewers have given poor reviews for this great platformer and homage to it's predecessor, Mega Man.
