- Comments: This was a nice refreshing anime. It's pretty dialogue-heavy. As such, it might appeal to a more mature audience that doesn't need over-stimulation from constant escalating fight scenes like many animes. It's a fairly relaxing and educational anime about many concepts such as economics and commerce/trading, among other things. If you enjoy animes with lots of exposition, as opposed to action, this may be an enjoyable anime. There's also some romance in this anime.
- Analysis: Holo, like many females in animes/real life, are clever at using men to get them to do things. This might entail that they act vulnerable, or otherwise have some sort of aura that influences men to do things for them; this is quite relevant to reality. Especially, if the female is considered attractive.
Social interactions are heavily emphasized. Not only does this help build up character development, this also may infer to the fact that life heavily revolves around relationships. After all, it's extremely difficult to live a life of seclusion. Since humans tend to be social, too much seclusion could eventually result in them going insane.
Moreover, human nature can be very ugly in various situations. One might include that fear or desires may be so great, that one would sacrifice anything and anyone in their way. This is easily backed by a myriad of horrible things that were done in the past. Especially, during war-times. It's also addressed that humans are selfish. Many will not hesitate to use someone or something to gain what they want, and then discard them when they have no use for them (such as "friends" with benefits). A sad, but all too true occurrence.
- Features: English and Japanese audio, as well as English subtitles. Contains 26 episodes on 4 Blu-rays, and 26 episodes on 4 DVDs with a run-time of about 10.5 hours. Rated TV-14 for some violence and suggestive scenes. There is censorship, however.
- Conclusion: In short, this anime is dialogue-heavy, contains some romance, emphasizes business and money as one of the main subjects, and a cute wolf girl. It has plenty of educational material, and is refreshing since it takes place in a fantasy world that doesn't emphasize sorcery and blades like many other fantasy genres do. This is more suited for a mature audience that enjoys exposition and character development.

And now excuse the following rant that starts with one big...
BUT the pictures depicting product are misleading. First picture shows that plastic Blu-Ray box has its own external packaging in multi-format option (1st picture) and quite nice looking one with nice pictures on both sides (I bought the multi-format version). But not only I received only the plastic box (and I really was hoping for that extra-cover as it would look really neat on my shelf), but it was quite damaged as well. I mean you can see that the package was flying. And I do not mean the USA-Poland route. Hard to tell if this is how it arrived in Poland or if it was local courier fault but the content in the box was not secured in any way in the first place. No bubble wrap, no plastic bags with air, nothing. This package had to cross the ocean so considering that the way it was backed was abyssmal. The seller was Amazon Export Sales LLC so I was expecting a bit more... 2/5 (1 point for good time time of delivery)
Discs are looking intact and luckily not damaged (hopefully, will have to verify that asap) but I will have to check that as at least the first DVD was loose and the last Blu-Ray Disc was partially dislocated... I will suck it up and buy myself a Blu-Ray box to swap the cover and discs to, but I won't be able to get the missing part and that is kind of a letdown...
Reassuming once again:

- Spice and Wolf anime 5/5
- Package I received 2/5
I saw the Oculus store version of Spice and Wolf and was kind of wondering what it was about. I sought out the anime on funimation and was hooked after the first two episodes. After episode 5, I bought this bluray set and Im writing this review after I had been compelled to watch both season 1 and season 2 in less than a day before my order even shipped. To say that this series so desperately needs a season 3 is an UNDERSTATEMENT.
By the time I got halfway through the second season, I had already read half the reviews here and knew this season was going to end in a cliffhanger...and by the time I got done watching the last episode, I just absolutely had to get the manga series from start to finish.
The artists managed to capture the very essence of love, turmoil, and all the emotions in between without even overdoing it, leading you to neeeed to watch another episode. Ive never been so engrossed in anime before in my life; Ive never read a manga before, and now I have a library coming to me just so I can read how it all ends. I assume this is what its like to be addicted to heroin. I see nothing but disappointment from everyone in the fact that there will not be a season 3, confirmed in 2018 by the man himself....which is an absolute shame. This anime is a masterpiece through and through, and I dont even really care all that much about anime. Im 41; this anime has touched me more than anything I can think of in my life...and I dont think anyone can reap a higher praise than this. I am so glad - and so unhappy - that I even heard about this anime/manga because I feel this is a journey I have to complete now.
This series is based on a pilgrimage of the main character to go home. Once you get sucked into the anime...and you will..., you'll never forgive yourself for not going on the pilgrimage with them....or read the manga next to see what happens with Holo and Lawrence.

The site above is very good for finding out info on any blu ray movie / show etc. As you can see, it plays back on Region A and B (which is us). You get Season 1 & 2 of Spice and Wolf on both DvD, and blu ray. The DvDs are actually locked to region A so won't play. But you're buying this for the blu ray, in which case does work so they must be region free.
So ignore the warnings saying it won't work.
