Well, I purchased a second one of these 5 years later and it is working perfectly. The previous problems with wood expansion that ruined my first one have been fixed. Once the cheap Chinese movement I put in there wore out I got another of these. I'm very happy with the silent sweep motion.
From 5 years ago:
When I first purchased this clock movement I loved it for it's smooth silent sweep movement. Then, it quit working 3 months later, and I was pretty disappointed, and tanked the review.
Well, I just got around to buying a cheap movement from the local craft store to fix it. When I started disassembling the clock to install the new movement, I noticed that some of the wood joinery wasn't quite straight any more. It turns out that the wood I used, Tennessee Hickory, had dramatically more wood movement than I allowed for.
The hickory started expanding, and had driven one of the walnut and cherry inlays into the shaft of the movement, pinching it into an egg shape, and binding the shafts. I thought I had left enough room to account for breathing room for the wood, but It seems the wood didn't think so. The movement was jammed in there so tight I literally had to hammer it to bits to get it out.
So, the failure was not due to the product itself, but rather to a truly ridiculous amount of wood expansion, and my failure to allow sufficient room for ridiculous things to happen. My apologies to the vendor. I can only assume at this point that had I left more room for expansion, the movement would still be quietly working.
The clock works may not bear the Seiko name, but it is the smooth movement for which Seiko clocks are famous. The time is accurate to the second after several days. I went from highly disappointed to highly pleased with just a little effort to get the original hands to fit!
The only slight word of caution is that the battery compartment is slightly fragile. For some reason, there is a cut-out slot behind the place where the AA battery sits (visible in the stock photo). This makes the bottom part of the movement's case weak. I accidentally cracked one while applying only moderate pressure in the process of installing it. It was easy enough to repair with some epoxy, but in order to avoid breaking yours, handle it delicately!
UPDATE (03/03/2017): These movements are still keeping excellent time in the clocks I installed them in nearly three years ago.

words of caution - Please note that you will not be able to use standard Minute hands as the shaft slot is oval in shape mostly used in USA .
