OMG, I loved this book! It was hilarious and over the top at times but it was also super sweet and heartwarming too. It’s the perfect combination for this time of year and it will definitely get you in the holiday spirit! We meet Noel when she’s waiting in the airport for her delayed flight to return home for the holidays after having pretty much the worst week ever. She’s lost her job, she ran out on her boyfriend’s proposal and therefore has nowhere to live. It’s here she meets Sam, a hot marine who happens to be waiting for the same flight, returning home after an 18-month deployment. Seemingly always the source of disappointment with her family, Noel doesn’t want to deal with their judgment this time around and enlists Sam to come home with her and pretend to be her boyfriend, the one she ran out on who her family is expecting her to show up with. Having nowhere else to really be and not wanting to part ways with Noel just yet, Sam agrees and hilarity ensues!
‘We’re standing in her parent’s living room with her mother giving me a pitying look, her ancle staring at me like she wants to eat me whole, her father cursing under his breath in the kitchen down the hall, the sounds of cartons of milk and containers of sour cream thumping into the bottom of the trash can while he makes sure I stay far away from Noel’s eggnog.’
I loved Noel’s family, they were an insane bunch but it was clear they loved each other and their excitement over the holiday was infectious! My family may not be as crazy as Noel’s but I could definitely relate to their love of traditions and some of the silly stuff they did, it made me think of my own family traditions both past and present. It was great and often hilarious seeing Sam being thrown into the holiday madness, especially given his limited experience with family functions. But he was a good sport about it and it only made me like his character more as he grew to love Noel’s family as well.
‘I want to hold her every night, I want to wake up to her every morning, and I don’t even care if her crazy family comes as a package deal. I want it all. The good, the bad, the crazy, and the messy. I just want her, however I can get her.’
Sam and Noel’s relationship was so sweet! I loved both of their characters, they were both so down to earth and realistic. I wish I could be friends with them! The chemistry between them was electric and there were some crazy hot scenes between the two of them! (Santa’s workshop will never be the same!) There were so many hilarious scenes that left me in fits of laughter and loads of swoon-worthy moments that left my insides a puddle of goo! The story was super-fast paced so their relationship advanced quite quickly, but given the circumstances and because of the awesome writing it was totally believable and I was soooo on board with them being together!
I really enjoyed this book, it’s the perfect book to put a smile on your face and a little love in your heart! My only complaint is that I wish it didn’t have to end! If you’re looking for a fun, quick, hilarious and romantic holiday read then this is the one!
There was just something about Noel that made her so real, and likeable. I fell for her sarcasm and grinchish spirit right from there start. And when fate happens to throw a sexy stranger in her path I just knew things were about to get very interesting. Oh that Sam; calm, quiet and perfectly content in his solitude until one sassy red head soaks him with a drink. Sam finds himself dumbfounded by this woman who somehow gets him to let his guard down. And convince him to play the roll of her boyfriend for Christmas at her family's home. The catch, Christmas is SO not Sam's thing.
Noels family warmed my heart to the core. It was one laugh out loud moment after another. Everything from the aunt to the eggnog to the pajamas to Santa's Workshop....really proved how completely and wonderfully fun the holidays can be. There was so much more too! This book was jam packed with traditions that ranged from the silly to the sentimental. And through it all Noel and Sam developed this bond that neither could explain if they wanted to.
But it wouldn't be the holidays without some sort of drama. And when it comes knocking on Christmas morning everything is thrown into chaos once again. Noel is stunned silent for a moment and in turn Sam makes a rash decision. But Sam being the great guy that he is, even with an aching heart, still delivered the Christmas magic to Noel. His gesture had me swooning and wanting to give him a hug at the same time. I won't tell you anymore than that but there is much more to the story.
If you're looking for a holiday read that is equal parts hilarious, sexy and sweet, The Stocking was Hung is definitely the book you need to pick up. You will laugh, you will cringe you will thank goodness your family isn't this crazy (the good crazy I promise). But most of all you will believe in the magic of Christmas and love.

This book was so much fun to read! Noel and Sam were the best couple and Noel's family was so entertaining. I was laughing so much at times I was crying! This is my first book by Tara Sivec and I enjoyed every word!. Cannot wait to read and get entertained by Noel and Sam and the rest of the family I miss them already!
5++ Pot Stars!!
There are some typos here and there (always annoying for me to see), but I will definitely be rereading this again.
Side note: I wonder if anything happens when we send messages saying there are typos? It seems as if nothing is changed, despite how we may send it as a comment while reading on our devices.
I like to buy books based on both cost & length of books (since I tend to read them quite quickly, for me length is important). I have to say that despite its length, just because it is so funny, it's well worth the price & I loved it.
The only drawback? It's too short. I wanted more.
Noel and Sam are stuck at the airport after their flight has been delayed by the weather. Noel is heading home to her wacky family - jobless, homeless and boyfriend-less. She accidentally spills her drink on Sam, a hot marine, who doesn’t celebrate Christmas and doesn’t have any family. The two hit it off and Sam ends up heading home with Noel, pretending to be her boyfriend.
The story is filled with comical capers, confusion, hot attraction, sexy times, and laugh-out-loud moments. Absolutely loved it!!
What a man! to take on the pretence of being the boyfriend, and then experiencing these two sexy people becoming friends and closely followed as lovers.
You could not help but love the family. A hilarious Aunt Bobby, haha, Nicolas as a typical brother, but when he needed to be he stepped up. Noel's mom Bev, and her dad Reggie, what a crazy pair, but so fun. They love Christmas and just really want their children to be happy so when Noel's ex comes crashing in, after a perfect Christmas and the family finding the truth, ahh I ached for her, cross with Sam.... he walked away. Ahh but so loved the family reunion.
This has you chuckling, grinning and feeling all warm and fuzzy, plus it has a fab ending...
