Product Description
Pollinator Attractor
Catmint produces a tempting nectar that is effective at bringing bees and hummingbirds to the garden.
Catmint (Nepeta Mussinii)
This popular member of the mint family forms a low-growing mound of fragrant foliage with 12 inch spikes of violet-blue flowers. The plant is very easy to grow from seed and, if the seeds are sown early enough in the season, the resulting plants can bloom the first year. Catmint is a perennial that blooms like an annual. The foliage is vigorous and spreads to a width of 10 - 12 inches.
Catmint plants work well as a general ground cover, accent plant, pathway edger, rock garden specimen, or herb garden addition. True to its name, catmint attracts cats! Its flowers are also especially attractive to a variety of pollinators, making it all manners of helpful for your garden. Give Nepeta plants lots of space as they will spread. Many gardeners will border them with an edging. Well-established plants can be divided in the spring.

How to Grow
In the spring, after all danger of frost has passed, sow seeds directly outdoors into a prepared seedbed. Use well-drained soil in an area of full sun or partial shade.
Press the seeds into the soil without covering. Keep the seeds moist until germination, which will occur in 2-3 weeks.
Thin the seedlings to 12 inches apart and pinch off the growing tips to promote a bushy growth habit. The plants are aggressive and don't need much care, but an application of fertilizer 1 - 2 times during the growing season is beneficial.

- Light Required: Yes

Too soon to say how they're going to do, how big they'll be or how they flower, however I've never had this many seeds germinate, so that's a very good sign! 👍
Lost a couple plants. Does NOT spread in my yard on its own. Nice. My "Walker's Low" is now almost 4 feet wide while these plants are about 14" wide.
Original Post:
Beware that this can be invasive if not watched closely. It is a member of the mint family which is notorious for spreading rapidly. Great plant for filling in large areas for cheap. Does not need to be covered with soil to germinate. Just broadcast seeds mixed with some filler like sand and press in with your feet. Lightly mist often to keep moist until it germinates.
This is not "Walker's Low" catmint which is sterile and does not produce viable seeds. Walker's Low, which I own, does not spread via seed or underground stolons. It will get larger with time and the center may die requiring dividing. It's a very beautiful purple/blue color and forms a perfect mound about 2 feet tall. Very elegant. One of my favorites of the many plants in my gardens. It really is a great substitute for lavender which is almost impossible to grow in zone 5.
Since this product is not what I expected (my fault), I will not plant it near my valuable perennials but in a place where it cannot get out of bounds. Germinated very nicely. Yes, this plant is attractive to cats but not nearly as bad as CATNIP. Had I known Walkers Low doesn't produce viable seeds, I wouldn't have ordered this. Good product though. Good company. The minus one star is for the generic name on the packet. The botanical (usually latin) name is very important when choosing hybrids and other modern cultivars.
