Super comfortable, good value
I've used these several times now for climbing in the Cascade range and they've pulled through without a hitch. I ordered these after trying out about a dozen pairs at a local store, weighing the different options based on price, weight, comfort, and features. I chose these because they aren't too much more than BD's basic poles, yet come with easy to use flicklocks, super comfortable grips/straps, and even include powder baskets. I could be crazy, but stomping them around on the store floor felt better vibration-wise too, even compared to carbon poles which are supposed to be the best about that. The padding and mold of the grip is great, and it allows for a few positions, all comfortable: you can hold it straight on, or move you hand up (without taking off the strap) and palm the top for a little more reach (the top has a lip which makes it easy to grip and a rubber coating which makes it comfortable), or you can temporary remove the strap and hold further down the pole for a short climb. The strap is the most noticable difference between this and cheaper models, I'd vote it is worth it for this as it'll be against your skin the entire time you might as well enjoy it.The powder baskets worked well when hiking up to Camp Muir on Mount Rainier, they gripped the snow well, and doubled as ski poles while glissading on the way down. It's pretty easy to switch the baskets but it won't come off on its own. They also look really nice and made the rest of my group with their rentals jealous.I'd definitely recommend purchasing the rubber tip protectors at the same time. These have carbide tips that work well in dirt and snow, but will slip at best and may break at worst on hard rocks/concrete/etc. On the other hand, the tip protectors don't grip well and can't dig in on dirt but work great on rocks.

I've tried a number of trekking poles and ski poles and have finally found ones that I like! I'm a casual hiker with bad knees and really appreciate having these to lessen the impact on my joints, especially going downhill. These have very comfortable handles (the foam feels very conforming without being too mushy). The foam also seems a bit more dense than others and doesn't seem to get as wet from sweat. The straps are very comfortable and easy to adjust. The entire handle system (including strap) feels very comfortable and well-designed (have not felt any spots where it's uncomfortable or hard to grip). It also feels like puts your hands in a good position to plant the pole with more stability. The extension of the foam further down the pole is nice as well (nice to have the extra length to grip in case you slip).

As some of the other reviews mentioned, the locking mechanism for the extensions is very strong and so far has not shown any signs of slipping, even when leaned on pretty heavily, but they are a bit challenging to open and close. They are very stiff so you'll need some finger and hand strength to pry them open and close them fully. Certainly not impossible but they don't just snap shut easily. A little bit of an unusual design but I guess I'd rather have a little inconvenience opening/closing if it means strength and security.

The poles seem to be good quality and feel very sturdy (don't bend or feel wobbly at all). I've not had to use them to break a fall but so far don't seem to have any issues with them holding up to pressure. The tips seem solid and grip well. Haven't yet used the larger baskets yet so can't say how those work.

They also just look high quality (not the most important thing but does make me feel like they are worth the money). Overall, a great set of poles for hiking and a great value (much cheaper than sporting goods stores).

This was my first set of trekking poles, and I have used them for a few years on local hiking trails. They have held up well. I am planning on bringing these with me when I thru-hike the Appalachian Trail.

I purchased these Black Diamonds to replace a set of Leki twist lock, anti shock poles. I found those to be difficult to adjust with gloves and the anti shock function would click on or off while the poles were being used.
I use these for hiking, backpacking & climbing the rugged trails of NY's Adirondack Mountains. The thumb lock design is easy to use and does not slip even with maximum force placed upon it. They are light weight and the dual position grips are very comfortable. They collapse and store easily even in a daypack! I added a set of rubber tips which make the poles feel secure and quiet when placed on rock surfaces.
These Black Diamonds surely enhance my hiking pleasure and I do not miss the anti shock feature at all. If you are looking for light weight, easy to use trekking poles, these are definitely worth checking out.

These poles were recommended by a an outfitter in the Adirondacks so we bought them for a hiking trip out west. They work great on loose gravel, sand, rock and even traversing a small stream or two (be careful on rock and try to plant them in an indentation). They are light weight and easy to adjust. Keep them shorter on the way up a mountain, longer on the way down.
I had them shipped to the person we were staying with so we wouldn't have to pack them in our luggage on the way out west. A few reviews I read confirmed that they would fit in a carry-on when collapsed - which they will if you take them apart. Everything was fine until we tried to get them through security coming home. TSA pulled my bag and the guy told me we couldn't take them through because they could be used as a weapon. He said we could check them and when we asked how he summoned a senior TSA official . She looked at them and said we were ok to take them through! So a word to the wise: You can unscrew the tips with a pliers (also not allowed by TSA). Next time we will remove the tips and render them harmless....maybe send them through the tray or put them in the electronics bag!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ligeros, cómodos y resistentes
Reviewed in Mexico on February 19, 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars leichter, praxistauglicher Wanderstock für Menschen bis 2 m
Reviewed in Germany on September 25, 2019

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and very robust
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 14, 2019
After trying a cheaper brand which warped within a mile then started falling apart, I decided to spend a bit more on these and the difference is night and day. They're no heavier than the cheaper brand but after about 100 miles there's no sign of any warping. The flick lock is secure and the hand straps are strong and very comfortable, taking most of my weight climbing rocky steps without needing a strong and tiring grip on the handles. The handles are a little thin with bare hands but perfect with gloves. I thought I might miss the anti-shock feature but haven't suffered aching arms.

One comment I would make is it would be good to include tip protectors or rubber tips, to avoid damage to my bag (or myself if I'm careless).
