Katie Meets The Impressionists Paperback – May 1, 2007

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 82 ratings

Katie's trip to the museum to see Impressionist art leads to a magical journey through the actual paintings. In paperback for the first time.

"This British import pays joyful homage to the world of the Impressionists. When Katie and her grandmother visit an art museum to celebrate the elder's birthday, the girl wanders into a gallery where she admires Claude Monet's The Luncheon.... With a blink of her eyes, Katie is magically transported into the painting... Lovely watercolors emulate the style of the Impressionists... Not only does this delightful fantasy succeed as art education, but it's a charming story as well." --School Library Journal

My 6 year old daughter fell in love with Katie and her adventures. We picked up a few of these books before a long vacation to France. I knew that we would be visiting several museums, and I wanted to give our little girl a tiny bit of knowledge about art/artists/museums. Little did we know these books set her up for the most amazing adventures in the Lourve, Musee D'Orsey and Musee L'orangerie. I had to drag her out of the museums, and she has already asked when we can go back. We have gone ahead and purchased several more of these little books for our trip to New York and Chicago. She says that these books are "very fun, and very good for people who like to paint and who like to learn about art."

After having read about the "Katie" books from a blog detailing excellent children's literature, I checked some out at the local library, and later purchased this one as a gift for my daughter's birthday. These books are exciting for both boys and girls, as her brothers enjoy them too. Katie, a young girl who frequents art museums with her grandmother, is able to transport herself into paintings and experiences an exciting adventure every time. My children are fascinated by this concept, and I love how they are introduced to famous paintings and their titles in the process. Not long after reading this particular book, we were out at a store not too long after where my 5-year old spotted a Monet painting and could identify the artist immediately. This book is worth adding to your child's library.

I am a homeschooling mother and is therefore always on the look out for educational books. I love this book, the story is very engaging and the images are wonderfully done.

I purchased a few "Katie" books, it is the best introduction to artists and famous paintings. My kids love showing off their knowledge about paintings and the artists who painted it - all thanks to Katie. "Katie meets the Impressionists" tells a beautiful story of a little girl named Katie who visits the art museum with her grandmother. While in the museum wonderful things start to happen ...

These books are wonderful and young children love them to bits! Highly recommended.

The book is well written and exciting to read to children. My copy was more well-worn that I expected it to be. I didn’t expect there to be library/collection labels on it.

These art introduction books are wonderful. My children love Katie and how and that she meets the artists. The artists that are chosen are so familiar on calendars, book covers, picture albums, etc. So, this is a great way for the child to know something special about the person who created that particular type of art. Monet is so very popular, here we learn specifics of his family, his life, his home, etc., and the same with Degas and others. This is a 5 star in my opinion.

This story is pretty good. My 3 year old daughter LOVED Katie and the Mona Lisa by Mayhew (we bought it for her when we went to the Louvre this past spring). I was excited to find more of these books on Amazon, and the Impressionists are my favorite artists... so I REALLY wanted to love this book. It is just okay. Better than average and consistent with the first book we owned, but she and I both like Katie & the Mona Lisa better.

Lovely book to use with children to help them appreciate art. I used it with a class of 11 year-olds while working in art lessons on one of the painters presented in the book. Very attractive and eye-catching drawings which appealed to the children.
