Robinair's No. 15500 VacuMaster Economy Vacuum Pump is a high performance, heavy duty 2-Stage rotary vane design vacuum pump designed for air conditioning and refrigeration service. With a 5 CFM free air displacement, factory rating to 35 microns, and 7.5 ounce oil reservoir, this unit has the capacity you need to get the job done. This robust unit features a 1/3 HP, 115V/60Hz thermally protected motor; an inlet fitting engineered for maximum airflow while preventing oil backflow; finned aluminum surfaces that dissipate heat faster (keeping pump cooler and extending life); 1/4" male flare and 3/8" ACME inlet fittings; 3/8" female flare x 1/2" Acme adapter; easy to read sight glass; easy access oil fill port; oil drain valve positioned at the bottom of the oil reservoir and angled for faster, more complete draining; and non-skid feet. I quickly tested it with the included oil and it ran perfectly. Pulling down to 100 microns 15 times as fast as my 100 dollar autogen that had catastrophic failure at 300 microns. Very happy with this purchase and the quality of build. It cost twice as much but the quality of the build is far more than twice as good. I plan to use this for occasional ac work but it will be used daily for resin casting and silicone degassing so I needed something that can put in the work.

    My old Robinair 15000 is about 40lbs heavy and it walks a lot during pumping which I hate. This 15500 is so light and running smooth and zero walk. I would give it 5 stars if the Operating Manual is not this bad. The manual shows all the external service parts but it never explain the function of the Exhaust Fitting. Some users even think it is for oil filling plug. Then the section it instructs how to shut off the pump correctly, involving 3 or more steps, except that it never says when to turn the power switch off.

    Many users had complained about the bad Operating Manual. I suggest that the company should demote those people responsible for the Manual.

    Edited: after using it on 3 mini split systems installation, I can confirm that the pump is doing great job: no oil consumption; it pulled down to 80 microns less than 15 minutes on a tight connection using copper pipe instead of rubber hose even I only changed oil once during 1 month working on 3 units installation.

    It just has a very bad unclear User Manual.

    I committed the typical amateurish error of trying out cheaper two-stage vacuum pumps...with predictable results. They either didn't perform as advertised right out of the box, or they failed within several uses - even with proper maintenance.

    This thing, however, delivers on the promise.

    I filled it with the included oil. First time powering it up, it pulled the rated vacuum quickly when dead-headed.

    That first charge of oil became cloudy after just a few uses, so I drained it and replaced it with fresh Robinair vacuum oil. At that point, the ultimate vacuum plunged to 9 microns. (I suspect that the first charge of oil took the brunt of the break-in, and that's why it clouded up so quickly. But that's something to be aware of if you buy this pump. Keep a close eye on the clarity of the first oil charge, as it will probably cloud up pretty quickly.)

    Since then, this pump has been worked very hard. It has been operated for hours on end with no loss of performance whatsoever. Since my application doesn't expose the oil to excessive moisture, the oil has remained clear after the equivalent of days of operation.

    There is oil fog released when the pump is operated under no load, or when it is under load but evacuating at a high flow rate. It's inevitable and is present with all pumps of this type.

    There are aftermarket oil mist separators available that can mitigate the oil mist, but they're expensive. Just expect the oil mist, and make sure you have adequate ventilation wherever the pump is operating.

    I chose to go with a brand name rather than one of the cheaper similar spec models. Never had a pump before but every car needs a new compressor if you keep it long enough. One pump and refill costs more that this pump (including Freon and oil). Easy setup, quiet, pulled good vacuum. Didn't check final vacuum as my gauges are not the best, but needle was basically pegged at highest vacuum level. The repair was: automotive - new compressor, all new seals on all components, full flush on what was left, new suction/discharge hose, new receiver drier). After sitting for an hour with no change in vacuum, added sufficient R134a for compressor to run and fully charged the system. Even with the new parts (all AC Delco - so double what i could have paid) plus the tools i didn't have (flush kit, flush, this pump) cost was half of dealer cost to just replace the compressor. After use I changed the pump oil - went from clear to noticably yellow with 45 minutes of use. Easy to change, just follow instructions provided. This is cheap easy maintenance. Can't comment on durability as i only used it once. Way quieter than the previous pump i borrowed.

    Much better quality than the lower priced generic pumps, although this Robinair pump is made in China where as I thought they were US made.

    Purchased this after my fieldpiece pump died. Instead of spending another 600bucks I decided to give this a try. As a residential hvac tech I’ll say this for the money it does good. It doesn’t pull down fast but you don’t want that anyways. It’s lighter then my fieldpiece one was as well. I highly recommend

Trae su botella de aceite para que la rellenes ya que viene vacía, su manual y su cable de conexión. Pesa 10 kg y no le quita practicidad para cargarla. Llego bien empaquetada a mi casa y sin ningún inconveniente. Funciona bien no es muy ruidosa. Lo que no me gusta son los tapones de plástico negro de sus conexiones, se ve que se pueden romper en algún momento. Actualizaré reseña en un futuro respecto a su funcionamiento. Me costó 4415 MX. Todo bien por parte de Amazon

    Received item well packaged in Styrofoam added the supplied oil to the level indicated connected my gauges and ran unit to test
    vacuum operation. starts and runs fairly quite has an internal air blower to keep motor cool.
    Measure power consumption after about 5 minutes operation draws about 7.3 Amps or just under 500 Watts. as per my power meter. Remember VARS
    If unit is run for 2 hours you would draw about 1KWH electricity in my area 7cents.
    Or similar power consumption of two PS3 FAT units running for 2 hours.
    This product has made in China stamped on name plate and 1/3HP.
    There is no gas ballast injection port on this pump for dealing with condensates.
    Other than these few items the pump was at a good sale price so a purchased the unit.
    Time will tell.

    Second one of these pumps I brought, only because the first one was so good someone wanted to buy it off me. These things are amazing machines, pulls -30hg and more, quite as you could pray for, no smoke, lasts forever, even after the first one was used with no cold trap and pulled tons of isopropyl direct to the pump, still works like a charm. I do not recommend this though it will shorten the lifespan of your pump. Get a cold trap, and it will last for years. I'm talking heavy use too, like 6+ hours a day running no problems.
