Jeanine Joy

About the author

Dr. Joy is an award-winning writer who teaches people to use their brain more intelligently. She is a lateral thinker who aggregates research from many different disciplines to create practical solutions that help people increase success, reduce stress, and improve relationships at work and home. She began researching resilience with one goal: to find out what makes some humans thrive in spite of adversity. She discovered that resilience shares a root cause with every area that affects human thriving including relationships of all types, physical, mental, behavioral, and emotional health, and success in academics, career, and sports. Jeanine read over 7,000 scientific journal articles while writing eight books that cover topics that include: Maintaining and Restoring Mental Health, Employee Engagement, Burnout Prevention and Recovery, Resilience and Retention, Positive Health Promotion, Building Resilience, Social and Emotional Learning, and Suicide Prevention. Her work is informed by research from many different scientific disciplines, affording her a deeper understanding of solutions. You can find her articles published in Forbes, Psychiatry Today, Becker’s Hospital Review, Huffington Post, Apple News, and other respected publications. Dr. Joy teaches The Smart WayTM. She is a sought-after public speaker who loves to travel. Prior to forming Happiness 1st Institute, Jeanine did primary research in human thriving while concurrently working in the financial services industry. Her final role in her 1st career was as the Director of Compliance and Risk Management for a nationwide wealth management company. She combines her knowledge of risk management and psychology to help organizations understand and mitigate risk from psychosocial stress at work. Jeanine has an engaging way of sharing complex subjects that make them seem simple, creating ah-ha moments that frequently lead audiences to wonder why they hadn’t seen what becomes clear as soon as she explains it. Like Columbus’s Egg, she makes the difficult easy to understand and replicate. The Story of Columbus’s Egg “Columbus' egg refers to a brilliant idea or discovery that seems simple or easy after the fact. The expression refers to an apocryphal story in which Christopher Columbus, having been told that discovering the Americas was inevitable and no great accomplishment, challenges his critics to make an egg stand on its tip. After his challengers give up, Columbus does it himself by tapping the egg on the table to flatten its tip.” (Source: Wiki) Her first five books documented the research that supports her work while also providing practical strategies individuals and organizations can apply to improve their experiences. Her more recent books are written more for the less scientific reader who just wants to know the processes that work to reduce stress, increase happiness, and regulate emotions in healthy ways. The work remains grounded in solid science but it focuses on teaching the reader about strategies that we know work because of the science instead of teaching them about the research. You've probably never met anyone who is more passionate about helping people thrive more. Dr. Joy is planning a Joy Walk during which she will walk from Santa Monica Pier in California to Charleston, South Carolina to raise awareness about research that reduces suffering and increases joy in the lives of all who learn and apply it in their lives. With just 27% of the public reading nonfiction books each year, these life-enhancing scientific advances aren't reaching those who would be strengthened by this information. Watch for upcoming announcements about the Joy Walk or follow her on social media to hear updates (Joywalk.org)
