Fly-Back Chronograph MovementOriginally designed for pilots, the fly-back chronograph allows you to stop-reset-restart the chronograph with a single action. The movement accounts for the length of time it takes for the stop-reset-restart to take place and positions the chronograph second hand in the proper position for the current elapsed time for the current timing segment. |
2nd Time ZoneWhen the Chronograph is not in operation, the upper sub-dial displays 'hours' for a 2nd time zone. |
Indiglo Night-LightPress the crown or button to activate. Electroluminescent technology used in the Indiglo night-light illuminates the entire watch face at night or in low light conditions. |

I haven't worn a watch regularly for about 15+ years now. In an effort to look at my phone less (because of its ability to be a huge time suck), and to have a source for time without constantly having to ensure my hands are clean and dry (so I don't dirty the phone), I decided it was time to get back into the habit. I did a lot of research on watches and looked at a lot of styles, and ended on this one after almost a month of decision making.
My needs: I'm a brewer, and so I'm constantly getting wet, have to work with a myriad of chemicals, and have a very dirty, very physical job that includes lots of banging stuff around and lots of heat. I needed a watch that would not only be waterproof, but one that would be tough. I also was 100% not willing to get a leather band, because of how often I'm submerging my hands - I originally stopped wearing my old watch while I was working as a chef because between hand washing and sweat, the bands got really funky, really fast. I was a little nervous to get a metal band because I know some can be notoriously bad at grabbing arm hair. I've only had that happen once. The watch breaths very well and dries off quickly. I obviously try not to scratch it up, but banging it around can't always be helped, and even after five long weeks where I've just been getting used to it being on, I can't find a scratch on it. My only complaint about the watch is the the pin pulls out very easily. I've caught it on gloves numerous times. That stops the time, obviously. The roar of the brewhouse can be too loud to notice the quiet chirp it makes when you pull the pin out, and on 2-3 occasions I haven't caught it until hours later when it was significantly off, and once I accidentally knocked the pin back in (I assume), and when I looked at the watch it was about 2 hours slow. This is something that is a significant nuisance, and occurs about once a week.
The watch face is beautiful, and unlike any other watch I've seen before. I especially like the fact that it has a full size second hand. The display was a little hard to get used to at first - the hands get a little lost sometimes, and the chronograph hand can make it look like it is always the top of the hour - but once you're used to it and know what you're looking for, it isn't hard at all. All-in-all it took me about the first week to get the time on the first glance. I was surprised at how much I like the chronograph, and how much I use it at work to time various facets of my job. It isn't good to time out hop additions as there is no alarm (so I am still using my phone regularly during one point of my day), but it does allow me to track things over long periods with ease, and the fact that the ten minute dial resets so visually gives you a strong visual signal of time passing as you glance at it regularly. I also enjoy having the second time zone capability when the chronograph isn't engaged. The indiglo is useful in the pitch black, but the glow in the dark accents on the watch itself are a joke. They help a little in the low light, but you can barely see them in the dark, and they loose any "charge" they might have in a matter of minutes if not in good lighting. This isn't much of an issue because of the indiglo, however.
Because of its durability, beauty, and utility, I'm giving this watch five stars despite the pin. I have a feeling if I weren't constantly putting on and taking off gloves (or if I wore the watch on my right hand so that the pins pointed away from the gloves) I wouldn't have this issue. It has only caught once in my off hours while I was trying on a significant amount of clothes at a department store.
A note on sizing the band: I have fairly large wrists and I still had to remove one link. It was easily enough done at home once I watched a video of the process. It took some force (I was afraid banging at the watch), but it made it through unscathed, and went back together easily and soundly.
Now I only take the watch off to shower, and maybe every other night when I go to bed. It has quickly become a part of me, and I'm happy with my decision.
However, when I looked this Timex over, and then saw the price, I thought I would "break rank" and try it out. I'm glad I did. This is a very, very nice watch that looks even better in real life than it does in the photos. It has an elegant look that is also sporty. The beige hands and marks go exceedingly well with the full black face, and the case itself is a "retro" circular and thick style matched with a more sporty steel mesh band. These design elements all work together to make a fantastic looking watch. And it can't be beaten for the price.
Quality seems very good. (It should also be noted that interior components of this watch were drawn in part from the "Tx" line that Timex did for about five or six years, which were much more expensive watches, and built in Germany. So, in a sense, you are getting a "mini Tx" watch for 1/4 the price!) I can't necessarily say that the quality EXCEEDS a Swatch, which are all still to this day manufactured strictly in Switzerland (and most people don't realize that Swatch is, by far, the largest watch manufacturer in the world, with no one even running a close second), but this Timex watch has a very solid feel to it, and they claim the movement is Japanese. From what I can see, I don't expect any problems with it.
Another great thing is that the watch has the trademark "Indiglo" Timex technology built in. Press on the middle stem when you are in the dark, and the entire inner face glows Indiglo blue. Really nice feature to have on a watch.
A great watch at a great price. Try it, and you might find yourself wearing it quite a bit. Five stars, maybe six because of the price/feature/appearance ratios.
Note:
Remember, that Swatches are likely the only watches that have batteries you can easily replace yourself with a simple flathead screwdriver (look up a men's Swatch online on Amazon, and look at a photo of the back of the watch, and you'll see what I mean: it's a cinch.) As nice as this Timex is, and it IS very nice, unless you have a watch back opener you'll have to take it to a jeweler to get the battery replaced. I wouldn't let that deter you on a purchase, just keep it in mind. And compare with Swatch watches, which make changing batteries by yourself a snap, no special tools needed.

I recommend you to buy it before they're sold out, something this unique and well built for such a cheap price is an opportunity that should not be missed.
No es pesado, a veces se te olvida que lo traes puesto, el tamaño es perfecto no muy grande ni muy chico.
