5.0 out of 5 stars awesome and a bargain
Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2012
I LOVE this lens. I've had it for about a month now and it's been my favorite lens the entire time. I did a ton of research on this lens vs. the Canon 85mm f/1.2 L and bought the Sigma after determining the consensus is it's optically at least 95% as good as the Canon, has faster autofocus, and costs half as much. It's super sharp and the bokeh is so creamy when shooting ~f/2.8 and below. I just performed an autofocus microadjustment test and it required no adjustment on my 5D Mk III. The lens has a hefty, solid feel and the focus wheel turns smoothly. It's been my experience that Tamron and Sigma lenses are generally inferior enough to be not worth the savings, but Sigma has hit a home run with this lens, especially at the price. My only nitpick is it can be a little tricky to get the lens cap onto my B+W UV filter.

UPDATE:
After 3-4 months, I now feel I should mention it is fairly easy to accidentally hit the AF/MF switch and go to manual mode without realizing. (I had seen this mentioned in reviews prior to purchasing.) I've done this quite a few times now. If you have your beep turned off, you may never notice until you've taken a bunch of unintentionally slightly-out-of-focus shots, which can be particularly frustrating and embarrassing when doing a portrait. The switch protrudes a little too far out from the body.
Also, there is significant vignetting at f/1.4 on a full frame sensor, but that is normal and to be expected, is easily corrected with software, and is actually not all that undesirable for portraits. The effect lessens greatly by f/1.8.
That being said, I still absolutely love this lens and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beeindruckende Schärfe!
Reviewed in Germany on November 3, 2015

- Fazit -
