Blaze (Tranquility Book 1) Kindle Edition
Lady Bethany clawed her way to the ranks of the Elven Service's top military elite. They only knew her as their foul-mouthed, hard-nosed champion against magic, and not the daughter of a goddess. Her life protecting those under her care is disrupted when her twin sister returns from exile, addicted to magic and human sacrifice. Her purpose? To overthrow their own mother.
Innocents will die unless Bethany can take the life of her own sister.
For the greater good.

Bethany is the daughter of a goddess and a high commander who earns respect from both the training soldiers and reader. It's clear she has a lot of responsibility she tries to keep up with, and makes hard and sympathetic choices. There were times I felt she acted a tad out of character. mostly when Arrago was around. (Her looking forward to a "day of fun.", being oblivious how it must look to others having him around, and in general not seeing why she falls for him. Her vision is a great reason in the beginning which leaves her flustered (Ioved that), but after that it didn't work anymore so I never felt he earned her affections properly.)
The antagonists were an odd couple, but worked. However the overall backstory was confusing. (Their mother's interventions. The relationship between the sisters.) And the antagonists motives was confusing too. (How does magic work within the world, how do others react to it?)
Regardless, the story was still a dark fantasy with a woman who knows how to kick butt, and thus an enjoyable read.
Only negative is it's a bit heavy handed on the pro abortion theme.
