UPDATE June 2016:
Apparently using just one set of wires wasn't a good idea after all. The unit worked fine for awhile until one day when I apparently had 1 too many appliances running at the same time. The power consumption was too large for one set of wires to handle and they burnt to a crisp. I wound up having to replace the wires and this time I used 2 wire sets and 2 fuses from the same battery source and the unit now works great, no more low voltage indicator noise coming from it. Live and learn.

I followed the others' advice and got 4 gauge jumper cables. I cut them at 4 feet, peeled the casing to expose about 1 inch of wire and attached to the inverter. I just used the clamps to car battery. I only used 1 set of cables (but it has spaces for 2).
I never had any issues. With the car running, it easily powered 1000w. With the car off, I could run about 600 watts for 20-30 minutes and the lights alone (140 watts) for 2-3 hours.
The inverter was also fine for charging computers, phones, etc., but when I connected my TV, the TV started making noises so I disconnected right away to avoid any problems with the TV when the power came back.
All in all, the unit was a bit of overkill for my use, but I would rather overdo it than be butting up against the wattage maximums.
Anyways, I thought something was wrong with the inverter because of the weird behavior upon powering up. It turns out, after making the beep noises and stuff, which is actually a normal test it runs when it is powered on, that the inverter works just fine! It just doesn't need the fans on if there isn't much load. So, for those who think theirs may be bad, try plugging something in first, and it probably works. It just doesn't turn a cooling fan on, with a 13watt fluorescent trouble light plugged into it.
As for my actual review of the product, it works great! Powers stuff up to at least 1600 or 1800 watts with no issues, even when just hooked up to a 2 farad capacitor, that is hooked up to my SUV's battery in front with 10feet of 4gauge cable going to each terminal on the 2 farad capacitor. (Then 1.5 feet of #4 cable going from the capacitor to the inverter on both terminals, along with #6 cable to my car audio amplifier.)
The biggest thing is, make sure to use connectors, crimp on ends, battery terminals, etc., that are intended to be used with 4 gauge cable or bigger, so you do not bottle-neck your power before it gets to the inverter at some point. And yeah, it does need a lot of juice to continuously run things at higher levels of power (like 2.5kw, not 250watts.) You just need to do the math to be sure you can put out the juice you need, for as long as you need.

Find out that the Cobra is like the Eliminator, no fuse, so if the + and - accidently touch, the unit is scrap.
Other than that feature, the unit works good.
If your not using it turn it off, will last longer
