Tattered Wings Kindle Edition
Ian Michaels is an unlikeable man.
A wealthy attorney who handles estates and wills so he doesn't have to get his hands dirty. He's a selfish, self-centered, adulterer whose personal comfort is the most important thing in his life.
For reasons he doesn't yet understand, a young killer demands Michaels defend him on a multiple murder charge. It upsets Ian's perfect life yet he takes the case to save face.
The young insane boy, Kenny Johnson, is Ian's first encounter with the seedy side of life. He sits riveted as Kenny's sister, recounts the horrible punishments the boy subjected her to over the years. Michael contends with Kenny's cowardly father and abusive step-mother. The boy's real mother is a religious zealot and as crazy as he is.
It takes a horrendous event for Ian Michael to realize he does care about someone outside himself.

From the Author
I did a lot of research into human behavior. Watching people in coffee shops and as they interacted with those around them became my hobby as I worked on Tattered Wings.
For those of you who don't like murder and mayhem, Kenny has all ready done his dirty deeds before the book opens.
It also follows the life of Ian Michaels as he defends the boy, or tries to. It is a real eye-opener for Ian and he grows in his own life.
Tattered Wings is fast moving and you won't be bored.
Let me know what you think.

About the author

When I was sixteen, my English teacher talked me into entering a poem I'd written into a contest. I figured it couldn't hurt so I followed her advice. Lo and behold, my poem won First Place in the American Poetry Society's Annual Contest.
A lot of water under the bridge since then. My first set back to writing came when in my senior year of high school I found out my dad didn't believe in sending girls to college.
I knew someone had to flip the burgers and I'm not putting the job down. I'm only saying it didn't fit into my picture of what I wanted to do with my life.
I ended up with a scholarship to go to X-ray Technology school. Not only did I get tution, books, and uniforms as well as room and board, I also recieved a stipend. The only thing was, I didn't know what an x-ray tech did.
It turned out good and bad. Good, I met and married my hubby and the bad news was after we had children, I worried about my girls all the time. I knew every odd, dumb and accidental way a kid could end up ruining or ending their life.
After a few years I told my husband we had 2 choice. I would either quit my job or I would wrap the girls in bubble wrap to keep them safe.
I quit and began to write. When I finished, which took years, I had written Tattered Wings.
Since then I've been divorced. I have three adorable grandkids.
I write full time, mostly cozy mysteries.
I hope you'll take a chance and try one.

The novel does not develop around the presence of young, sadistic killer Kenny Johnston, but rather a lawyer, Ian Michaels, whose practice revolves around divorce cases, who finds himself dragged into representing Kenny in what becomes his first ever criminal law case. As his client’s case progresses, almost in the background, we are allowed to see just how this major departure from his usual focus affects him, his secretary, Maggie, and his wife, Heather, and their interrelationship. It’s a little like a monkey poking a stick into a hole in a tree to agitate the insects living within, forcing them to venture outside and become the simian’s feast. In this case Kenny and the details of his case are the monkey and stick respectively, whilst the lawyer, secretary, and wife all react to this indelicate intrusion into their sedate, almost soporific existences, which is so dependent upon the routines they practice every day.
I liked this novel for the subtle way the author uses actions and events, once her words and craft have established the bona fides of each of the protagonists thus quickly setting a benchmark so the reader might revel in the disruption of each individual status quo as the tale progresses. An enjoyable, character-centric thriller that will stay in your mind long after the shocking denouement has taken place. Highly recommended.
Tattered Wings
Lawyer, Ian Michaels wants to know why his client, Kenny Johnson, a young boy did the horrible things he is accused of doing. In seeking answers he is awakened to his own plight and the way he has handled his life.
As soon as I started reading, I got involved with what was happening and got to like the characters, hated the criminal and most of his family, felt sorry for his sister. TATTERED WINGS, BY SUSAN KEENE is an excellent book. Very well written and moves quickly. The ending was unexpected. Liked how the problems were handled.
This book: also available as paperback.

His investigations take him through events that change his life forever. The ending is a real blast! I love stories that don't let you know where they are really going! This is a good one!
