Great for the price
Let me tell you I hate spending money. Well I looked at all the reviews read everything online about all the products and decided on my CS 400. I have never been happier with a purchase as I have with this chainsaw. I have cut no kidding probably 90 cords of wood in 3 years with this thing and all I have had to do is buy a sparkplug for it! I live in western NY and even when it's 5 degrees out this saw fires right up everytime. It's reliable and dependable! It may not be tha fastest cutting saw on the market but it gets the job done everytime.

Chainsaw was easy to order, well packed and arrived on time. I have owned many chainsaws thru the years, Homelite, Stihl, Husqvarna and all have been good saws. I thought I would try an Echo chainsaw this time as it had some good reviews and I was looking for a little cheaper priced saw. I am very pleased so far, I took down a good sized tree in front yard about 16 inch diameter pine tree. Like all saws nowdays there not as heavy duty as they used to be , but are much lighter. The saws performance was excellent but will have to see how it does long term. Very happy with it so far.

Mixed up some gas and filled up the saw with fuel and oil. Bar and chain were easy to install and tension. I have been using chainsaws for about 40 years. Saw fired on second pull. Started on 4th or 5th pull. Recoil is very light for pull starting. My old joints appreciated the easy pull start and the light weight of the saw. I cut a couple of small cedar trees, limbed them, and made a half dozen fence posts from them. I shut the saw off and sat it down several times to clear brush. Every time I picked the saw back up and gave it a pull, it started. Very nice saw. Light, plenty of power, I am pleased with it as a homeowner using a chainsaw only occasionally. I expect this saw will do as well as he last 3 Jonsered saws I have owned.

I tell everyone that asks why I purchased an 18 inch chainsaw, if I need a longer chainsaw it's out of my league.
Couple of problems: One, it did not come with the bar. Had to have it mailed to me. Two, the sparkplug connection inside the cap slipped back making it hard to remove the cap.

I got my old one stuck in an Oak tree and whilst attempting to dislodge it I pried against the chain guide part of the case and broke it. I was miserable, because this aggressive little chainsaw provided heat for me and my family for 2 years with no problems. I found one on amazon that was 1/2 off the regular price - a return or something and I jumped on it instead of getting a replacement part.

I read some of the bad reviews and it seems to me that they probably didn't follow the instructions.. She was hard to start the first time, but they tell you that in the quick start guide. Being a cheap broke single dad I have put cheap ethanol gas with the cheap brand of fuel oil/stabilizer and used motor oil for the chain lube. She didn't even cough - wouldn't recommend doing that to such a fine chainsaw, but times were hard. Worth every penny full price since she has easily paid for herself with all of the wood she provided - Cords of wood here in California are super expensive. OH and get yourself a chain sharpener and make sure its sharp before you got cut any wood, and make sure the chain is lubed ( I do this by putting the nose of the chain guard down and revving the engine until I see the spray on the inside of the chain guard).

Hard starting the first and second uses. Won’t start at all on the third use. Wish I’d bought a different brand. I absolutely hate this thing.

Update:

I contacted Echo for warranty support. They told me “ I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. Unfortunately since it was an Amazon purchase it is purchased 3rd party and not warranted by ECHO.”

Avoid this.

After thoroughly researching chainsaws and reading reviews I decided on the Echo CS 400.
When it arrived I read the instructions and was amazed that it started immediately. We live in Hawaii and have numerous Kiawe trees on our 4.4 acres. these are very hard wood. I proceeded to cut 5 fairly large of these trees and it cut through them like butter. Not once did I have to adjust the tension on the chain. I have had numerous chainsaws in the past and nothing holds up to the quality, power and ease of this Echo. I know in the future I will not think twice about the choice in chainsaws. Do yourself a favor quality definitely out weighs costs.
