Product Description
Polk Woodbourne Wireless Speaker System
The Woodbourne is more than a wireless loudspeaker offering both Airplay and Bluetooth wireless technology with aptX connectivity. It can, in fact, do the heavy lifting of a primary speaker system, not only for your music but also for all your TV viewing pleasure. Which at first may seem surprising when you consider how small the Woodbourne is, but not at all unexpected when Polk sets out to upgrade a category. Our design team’s goal was twofold: Fill a room with full-range Polk sound quality and imaging, the equivalent of a pair of high performance bookshelf speakers.
180 Watt RMS 4-channel amplifier. Each driver has its own dedicated amplifier with 70 Watts continuous per 5 1/4” mid-woofer and 20 Watts continuous for each 1” silk dome tweeter. Individual amplification offers several performance advantages. Reinforcing the Woodbourne’s simple, elegant lines are minimalist controls that can be accessed from either an included remote control or at the Woodbourne’s front panel. Those controls offer 6 source selections, adjustable volume with LED indicator and power on/off. Polk does audio. 40 years of knowledge creates the best listening experience by far.The Woodbourne is a speaker system designed for a specific application: a small form factor, offering easy integration into a decor while delivering extraordinary room filling performance. To achieve those design goals, an acoustic suspension system offered the most extended, tightest and most musical bass for the enclosure size. The 1/2” thick MDF enclosure was selected for its superior acoustic properties. The non-removable lattice grille has very large open areas to minimize any interference with the mid-woofers and tweeters. The curved front baffle not only adds visual interest but it also allows greater separation between the two driver sets, adding to the larger sound field that complements the room filling capabilities of the system.

The soundstage is VERY good, probably in part due to the curved face, which is something single-cabinet bluetooth speakers typically have trouble with. You really aren't limited to standing in front of, and at eye level with, the speaker to get the best treble. It's genuinely room-filling. Stereo separation is better than most, but still not all that great. Even "360-degree" or "surround" speakers like the Bang & Olufsen Beolit 15 really don't manage actual stereo separation. You really need 2 actual channels to get that.
It sounds like some folks have had quality issues with it. That very well may be true. The speaker has worked well for a year and a half of intermittent use for me, but I just set it up in an application where I need to use the remote control for the first time - which unfortunately, didn't work. Or, to be specific, it turns the unit on, and turns it up, but can't turn it off, and none of the other buttons/functions on the remote work. I have a tech support case in to Polk's customer service for that.
Nevertheless, it's a spectacularly good speaker, and very attractive, which of course the Marshall, Aiwa, Peachtree Audio DeepBlue2, are not. It originally retailed for $599, which would have been difficult, though perhaps possible, to justify - but for the current sale price, it's a steal, a clear leader of the pack in terms of value - top performance for a very good price. It comes strongly recommended.
It is a looker; really aesthetically elevates a living room environment.
Good stereo effect for a one piece speaker. Probably the outward curve helps in this; as also the fact that it is wider than most competing models (almost like a squat soundbar - which by the way, it can also be well used as)
Goes well with various forms of rock; vocal and acoustic heavy genres like country and folk and is good with jazz and blues as well. These are the main genres I listen too.
Has a good host of connectivity options (airplay, BT, Optical, USB and aux) but I mainly use airplay with my ipad (and itunes in my PC) and BT with my android phone or PC.The sound quality over airplay seems to be consistently better; and also you get to control the speakers volume (in BT the speakers and transmitting device have separate volume bars). But it seems BT from my LG G4 has slightly more clarity and fullness than from ipad; and has better connectivity. You can tell this in more bass heavy tones.
I have noticed that sometimes airplay doesn't work well if I am also streaming netflix or youtube to TV. But it may be issue with my wifi bandwidth. or router
Most annoying issue is the auto-off/sleep feature. Given that it mains powered, it should be on 'perpetual stand by mode' when On (or at least this should be an option). One of the other reviewers said its not much of an issue since its got a remote, but for me, sometimes it is a pain. Sometimes, you just want to cast a single song or podcast to the Woodbourne from wherever you are lounging, but then you have to get backup and go search for the remote to wake it up first. I partially worked through this issue by using my LG G4's infrared remote feature to set up a remote for the Woodbourne, but it doesn't work smooth and doesn't offer the full functionality.
Even the supplied actual remote is a bit finicky about where you point from, now that we are on the topic.
Despite all this, it is a beautiful and great sounding set of speakers; that most people will love having in their drawing/ living rooms. It has the sound of a big system (though without the actual stereo separation, obviously) and clarity and oomph is present is good quantities (though, like all such speakers, it may lack a bit in the lowest sub-bass). The build quality is top notch. The cons are all small in themselves but enough in number to deserve one docked star. For the current asking price, it is a great good deal. I don't think any bluetooth/ airplay speaker below $300 will have a 'bigger' sound.
I had absolutely loved this speaker but while it lasted, Fast forward a year and a half later. All of the sudden there was a problem with it powering up, then dead. I still loved this product and thought I could get it repaired, somehow someway someone should be able to fix this problem. But After numerous emails, texts, and calls to Polk's customer service, all I learned we that basically this was a 'one off' product and they quit supporting it in any way. They were less than helpful with any other ideas or options. So I hit a dead end. So I might as well wait for the new Apple Home Hub speaker.
Final score- Wouldbourne speaker 5 stars, Polk- 1 star.

Beste Kaufempfehlung...
