The Eldritch Conspiracy (The Blood Singer Novels Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 228 ratings

USA Today bestselling author Cat Adams returns to the Blood Singer series with The Eldritch Conspiracy. Celia Graves was once an ordinary human, but those days are long gone. Now she strives to maintain her sanity and her soul while juggling both vampire abilities and the powers of a Siren.

Not every bride needs a bridesmaid who can double as a bodyguard. But Celia's cousin Adriana is no ordinary bride: she's a Siren princess, and she's marrying the king of a small but politically important European country. She's getting death threats from fanatics who want to see the whole Siren race wiped out-including Celia herself, who is half Siren.

Luckily, Celia is on duty when a trip to a bridal salon is interrupted by an assassination attempt, so everyone survives. When Adriana returns to the Siren homeland to try to prevent a coup, Celia is free to hunt for the terrorists and the vile mage who is helping them (while keeping her eyes open for the perfect maid-of-honor dress).

Assuming the bride and groom both live to see their wedding day, this will be one royal wedding no one will ever forget.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Celia Adams, bodyguard, part siren, and emphatically not fully vampire, is competent without being perfect; she’s still struggling with the balance between her supernatural abilities, human life, and a high-impact job. Celia is called upon by her aunt, who is the queen of the sirens, to act as her cousin Adriana’s bodyguard during Adriana’s wedding. Adriana is marrying the head of a small European country, there’s a conspiracy afoot, and Celia’s presence is necessary to get to the bottom of the matter—at least according to a prophetic vision. As part of the bridal party, she’s thrust into the whirlwind of royal socializing, and it’s entertaining to watch her learn to balance the expectations of a royal family and the rather-violent aspects of her job; Celia is refreshingly practical in the light of the pressures brought to bear on her. The book is a light, not-too-demanding thriller, with a few moments of nail-biting tension. The supporting cast is delightful as well, including Celia’s multitalented tailors. --Regina Schroeder

"Adams takes creepy to a whole new level with this intense and enthralling adventure. Urban fantasy doesn't get much better than this!"

I really enjoyed this latest segment in Celia Graves's crazy life and can't wait to dig into the next installment of this series. Cat Adams really knows how to write and draw you into the storyline, keeping you reading until the very last word. Bravo, I say, and keep them coming!

This was another great installment in the Blood Singer series. Still fresh, with characters I love.

Celia is asked to be Adriana's wedding party and to serve as her bodyguard. They are constantly faced with life-or-death situations as they approach the big day, namely from an organization that has it out for both Celia and the siren race in general.

Celia goes through a rough patch with one of the men in her life, but I was glad to see Celia and Adriana become closer through the wedding. One of the things that I love most about Celia is her bravery - she will do anything to protect others. She is also loyal to the core.

If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it!

Celia is asked to be a brides maid for her cousin, a full blooded siren, mainly for protection She will be marrying the King Dahlmar of Rusland and their have been threats made against them. Mean while she also searching for Okalani a young siren teleporter who has run away. She has her hands full and it's another fast pace exciting book. I recommend the series.

Great book in the blood song series. The author(s) continue to provide interesting content without retelling the same story line over and over with different backgrounds and people. The developement of the main character is continued and we get sneak peeks into possible further stories that leave the reader intrigued. Looking forward to the next installment.

***This review contains details that some may consider SPOILERS***

I pre-ordered this book several months ago because I love this series and wanted the book the second it was available. The intricate action that is a trademark of this series is here; Adams manages to write interesting plots that don't dissolve into convoluted messes that I think are common in urban fantasy. In this book we travel with Celia as a bodyguard/member of the royal siren wedding party. In her last book, The Isis Collar, Celia fought zombies, this time she is fighting corrupt politicians and anti-siren hatemongers. The action is detailed and always relevant to the plot.

What disappointed me was the semi-resolution of the love triangle between Celia, Bruno and Creed. After four books of confusion, sexual tension, past history and betrayals I was expecting a lot more. One of the characters is essentially dealt with in a flashback and then her "pick" is bedded without any resolution of past issues. I actually skipped back and re-read the first two chapters to see if I missed anything - I did not. I confess that I feel cheated and somewhat confused that such an important element of the past books felt thrown together.

What I really enjoyed was the treatment of female characters in this novel. Many authors struggle to write women who maintain their integrity and strength from book to book. The Adams writing duo writes both Celia and the women around her with a great deal of skill. Celia remains tough, loyal and a bit of an emotional time bomb. Her friends rally time and time again to support and challenge her. Although I found myself with a strong desire to shake dear old Gran, I certainly can't complain that she is a weak character.

Will I buy the next book? Absolutely. I just hope that the authors put more effort into Celia's love life or just skip it altogether.

Although a light read, it was very riveting as I always wanted to know what would happen next. The ending eas pretty cool, and somewhat unexpected. Not as predictable as some books and series I have read.

I was stuck between giving this novel a 3 or a 4, and the sad thing is that it all revolves around Celia's romantic relationship in this novel. Everything else was exactly as I'd come to expect. You have all the action, all the chaos, all the personal drama that I've come to expect with dealing with this royal Abomination. I loved that we got to go back to her Siren heritage for a good deal of this novel and that a lot of her earlier actions are starting to bear fruits that she has to deal with. Overall, I wanted to love this installation of the Blood Singer series. But the thing that I just could not get past is where we find Celia romantically in this novel. I had to make sure that I didn't skip a book because I felt that much of a disconnect between how things sat between Bruno, John and Celia at the end of in The Isis Collar and the way that this novel starts. A large part of me went through the book expecting to see some sort of better explanation or at least the uncertain behavior from Celia that made the situation more believable, but I felt there was none. The time frame between the two books and the indecision that Celia had about getting involved with either of them, let alone dedicating herself to one of them, really makes Celia's relationship in this novel seem very forced. I'll be honest and say that I'm biased because I favored the guy who got the short end of the stick due to a seemingly arbitrary whim of the creator. If you can get over that aspect of the novel (or didn't really care who she ended up with as long as she ended up with someone), then you should be just fine.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes plenty of action with an out-standing heroine. I like Cat Adams' Celia Graves, half vampire and half Siren. She is smart, sassy and just trying to make a living.
