You get what you pay for!! As simple as that!! - ASUS G751JT review
I never gave a review on any electronic devices, so this is my first time. I am so excited to own this laptop. I was always impressed by ASUS Republic of gamers line of laptops for complete use of office, entertainment, and gaming (what not?). Especially with all the reviews online, I knew this was the right one to get.I'm just going to dive in to the main features, feel free to comment, like, suggest or ask me anything about it or related to it. will be glad. :)Starting with its design and exterior looks, this laptop is just beautiful with its keyboard lighting, that helps you find your keys, esp. ASDW which is very important to a gamer. The typing is smooth, I already played some hardcore games (which is listed in the end), almost thinking I destroyed the keys, but it is so perfectly designed and spaced, for you fingers to move around, for both gaming and typing fast.Similarly, the touchpad is just smooth, with so much surface area, to move across the screen/click on anything. Love it.Speed: With 16GB of DDR3 RAM, it boots in less than 15 seconds to the desktop already (imagine how fast with an SSD, then?) with a startup of at least 10 applications. Never have I seen something that fast. Even while browsing, running multiple tabs, playing many youtube videos in 1440p HD videos so smoothly. While browsing, through both chrome and explorer, it has been super fast, with its wireless type - 802.11 A/C, I am getting around 60 Mbps as download speed when my wifi server provides only 50.The Screen: Just amazing, with the IPS panel, no glare, full HD clarity, amazing viewing angles, with 17.3 inches and 1920X1080 resolution, it couldn't get any better!! No joke, watching all tv shows, and movies on this laptop, and suddenly switching to my old lenovo or anything lower than this clarity, it just hurts your eyes, lol. NOTE: The screen quality is so good, that the last time I saw something this good is with the latest MAcbook pro which has the retina display, so yea, it is as equivalent to that.It comes with 4 USB ports 3.0, 1 VGA port, 1 HDMI, 1 Thunderbolt, 1 microphone, 1 headphone Jack, 1 DVD multi recorder. The camera has got around 1.2 MP with HD feature( which is absolutely enough and more I believe for skyping)The Vents right at the back, for both the GPU and CPU respectively, is perfectly placed, which is very important for gaming and heat issues. I always had issue with my previous laptop, with the chipset graphic card, and trying out load of games, always heated and crashed games and aps And so far, it has been running this one on top load, it just stays super cool, and so quiet, without making lot of noise compared to the desktop, which I should say is one the main features in this laptop. Perfect. Now coming to the main pros: The Graphics: with Nvidia's latest GeForce 970M (October 2014 released) with 3 GB graphics and a processor of i7 4710 HQ (2.5 GHz) quad core processor with 5% overclock, this is just what I wanted. To test it out, I played so far Titanfall, Fifa 14, Tomb Raider, NFS RIvals, CS:GO. Remember all these games are 2012/13 and above, so as to test out the latest next generation games and all of them in maxed out settings, (ultra) anti-aliasing at 4x, with every detail to be displayed. and result: I have never experienced something as good as this even with my friend's xbox one. No joke. I will be soon posting some gameplay videos through shadowplay to show how it actually is. I also used Unigine Valley 1.0 to benchmark my results (Do check the screenshot for it here) For now the game results are:Titanfall: 40-50 FPS, so smooth, I played like 2 hours continuously, with the temperatures still remaining at around 45 deg celsius, (which is not bad, I believe, anything less that 65 deg celcius, your gig is then running fine!) Oh and about the game, I am no expert, but it just blew me, with the advancement of technology used in the game, there is no way you can stop playing this online game, absolutely fun with the titans and insane graphics, especially on a dream machine like this. :)FIFA 14: Just so realistic and beautiful playing this game. (can't imagine how it would be playing FIFA 15 then.) I got it for a higher range: 70-75 FPS range (since its not as demanding as titanfall, I believe), sometimes it dropped to 60-65 FPS when I played seasons with online friends (due to different internet speed are ports when playing online, I believe), but still not lagging at all even when it drops, which is just amazing.NFS RIvals: Trust me, not a racing fan, but this is one of the best NFS released in the recent years, and it is plainly just amazing, you wont stop driving and racing around in so good clarity and background. Again, not even a glitch or lag, I got continuous 30-40 FPS on this too, playing it with my wireless 360 controller. I believe the game can go higher with the FPS, but its a game I got from torrents, and from reading the reviews since the update and patch wasn't the latest, there were chance of locking it to 30FPS.CS:GO: Counter strike, well, might be wondering what's the deal in graphics here, but trust me, this is one of those CS gamess, where you get everything from 1.3,1.5 and 1.6 all in advanced and remastered edition that should just blow all CS fans and without a doubt the best CS game right now. It did give me a lot of memories playing good old maps such as assault, nuke, and de_dust2. :) It does have a lot of graphic options, in which I got around 250 FPS while playing it on complete high, which I have no clue how that happened, maybe a glitch. I turned it all down from high to ultra settings, and the FPS came back to 65-70, which was still smooth and really hard to tell the difference.Tomb Raider: Like Titanfall, this game did make me nervous too, with the amount of texture, and details option, I still turned everything ultra and maxed out settings, and to my surprise I was still playing it smoothly, although the temperatures were a little bit higher than the other games. I must say this game does demand a lot of load and graphics. and I am glad that this machine plays it so well. and the game is just brilliant. A must play for any action-adventure fan. I got around 40-50 FPS on ultra settings( I use this setting only in case I need to connect it to a projector or a big tv screen), and 70-75 FPS when I lowered it to high settings, which I normally play with. Just simply smooth. :)Cons:Not a lot, but definitely the weight of the laptop, weighing 8.4 lbs (almost 4kg), it might be a little burden to carry around, but can get used to it.The speaker sounds are not all that great, but decent enough for songs and videos. From what I read in the ASUS forums, it is a common driver issue that is causing it to sometimes give an unbalanced sound via speakers for everyone with the latest update on it. Probably rolling back the driver to the previous update or waiting for a fix by Asus is the solution. (If someone knows the fix, please do let me know) But not an issue, since I use my headphones most of my time. :)The battery is built in, and I have tested around 2 hours and 30 minutes roughly to use it continuously for watching videos, using MS office, and other applications, all unplugged. If playing games, it might stretch around max to an hour before dying out, which again, battery life should not be a problem, cuz everywhere I go or use it, I plug in and no one wants to game without plugging in your laptop to get maximum performance. :) Other than that, its Windows 8.1, so far, not a lot of problems, except for the updates and here and there bugs that are common, that come and go, but a techy guy like me shouldn't even complain about it, but to work around and solve it. :P :) !!So far, three days, I was only able to try these many games(wanted to do more). Will be doing more games in the future with hopefully videos in you tube. Especially ones releasing later this year (Arkham Knight, GTA V, Mortal Kombat X, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and many more.) I hope I covered most of the important tech specs of it. I must say for the price, it is worth every penny (do check the link to see the cost and more specs and features), I was nervous at start, but couldn't be happier now. It is absolutely true, like they said in the amazon and newegg reviews, that it is truly a desktop replacement, if you're looking for something that can be portable, yet powerful, with stylish look and finish, and above all giving a performance of 110 percent. Welfl done ASUS. I look forward in the years, to upgrade the RAM (only if needed 16GB is way fast and sufficient) and maybe an SSD storage, and other accessories. Thanks to Amazon for delivering this on time and in perfect condition, since I did read a few reviews who had dead pixel screen, or windows not starting up, and some other issues. Thank god. :)Do check out the photos. Thanks for reading. :) :)

Top reviews from the United States

Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2014
    ***EDITED 1/04/2015**
I've had this laptop for a month now so I think I can give a better review of it.

    ---------------The PROS-----------------
The big important: Gaming and Photoshop/art/3d programs:
I've played multiple games with the highest possible settings and it rarely dips below 50 to 60 FPS. Crysis 2 has more than 50 FPS on max settings with a lot of other stuff running at the same time. It also runs on 30 FPS (more than playable) when I have TERA online (MMORPG) playing. TERA plays at 80 FPS consistently. Unless you want to play 3-5 games at once, this will handle anything you throw at it. Crysis 3 plays above 40 FPS even in beginning (where it's raining like crazy). Photoshop can handle very large files with no problem and Painttool SAI has no lag even with large brushes. Running both is smooth. DAZ3D and Zbrush are also very smooth.

The laptop is beautiful, and the keyboard lighting is something to be proud of. It's effective and more importantly it lights up pretty damn well, not too bright to be annoying like other laptops. It also nicely turns off on its own after three or four minutes of idle time which is pretty great.

Its extremely quiet and even after running 3D modeling programs, it was still very quiet. It has never gotten hot, only slightly lukewarm. Even with two high-demand games on at once.

The touchpad is absolutely amazing and has a very good click. Not sure why, it just feels very comfortable. Truly bizarre.

The laptop is extremely fast and powerful. I have not gamed with this yet but I will update the review once I do.

The IPS screen is breathtaking. I didn't even know how amazing it would be until I saw it. Truly amazing. No glare whatsoever and is as clear as Apple's ever so famous Retina display (which has glare).

The keyboard is extremely ergonomic. It feels easy to use and it IS easy to use.

This laptop is almost always at it's tip top shape, and I can even play mid-tier games (like Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood/Revelations) at max settings on BATTERY mode. Goat Simulator works perfectly on battery mode with the highest possible settings. Skyrim plays at 30 FPS on max settings on Battery mode.

There is another review stating that a very heavy yellow tint is present. I compared this laptop's color with the color of a Macbook Pro (known for it's crystal clear lighting and Retina display). The color is nearly identical, and if it is not identical, ASUS Splendid Display can help you adjust the laptop's color to absolutely whatever you want it to be. It can be warmer or cooler, more vivid, or darker. The clarity also rivals that of the Macbook Pro, again, known for it's "unbeatable" display clarity.

I see a lot of negative reviews regarding ASUS's tech support and I thought I'd put something down. I had an ASUS ROG G73 (the 2011 model) and after a year or so my laptop's charger port became loose, and I couldn't charge my laptop at all. I sent them an email and within 2 days, they sent me a box with free shipping to store the laptop. I sent the laptop to their given site and within 3 days after that, I received the laptop. Not only was the charger port fixed, but they had cleaned my entire computer (it was dirty), made the charger port tight (so that it wouldn't even slip out accidentally, it was actually a great upgrade), and replaced the stickers that were falling off. It was a pretty great gesture, especially cleaning the fans. So in my experience, I give the ASUS Customer Service an A+.

The video recording software is actually really great. Launch a game and then it will record if you press the button. FPS counter is from NVidia and it is really really helpful. Supports lots of games.

Startup is incredibly fast even without an SSD. Probably 30 seconds to start up. Considering I only restart the computer once every several days, it doesn't matter at all.

    ----------------The CONS----------------
**NOTE** Everyone knows that this laptop is really good, so I will list EVERY SINGLE CON that I can find, regardless of whether it's useless or not. Many of these cons might just be my own laptop, or they might be consistent throughout many laptops. But, all in all, NONE of these cons are bad enough to deter me from this laptop in any way.

This one may be my fault because I deleted some programs that I thought were bloatware. They are definitely bloatware and not necessary for the laptop to function properly, but deleting them may have made the special keys unusable. There are five special keys on the top left of the keyboard. Video capture, Steam, and three macro keys.
-The video capture key opens Shadowplay, a game recording device. Unfortunately for me, it does not save anything, so it is useless for me. I have NOT had a situation where I wanted to press Esc and pressed the record button instead.
-The steam key opens up steam in full screen mode. No one likes that, so I never use it.
-The macro keys... #2 and 3 don't work for me. Not sure why, maybe I deleted something. #1 works perfectly and I use that to open my own recording software.

Finally, there's a ROG game center key. I don't use ROG Game center simply because it's not very useful. So now I deleted the program and the key is unusable.

This laptop is LARGER in thickness than the G751JY models, which are at least $800 more expensive. There are two small seemingly unnecessary blocks on the bottom that makes the laptop better to use when seated on a table, but worse to use when seated on a couch or a bed, since the stands kinda dig into your leg a bit. Not a real problem but it's an unnecessary setback.

I upgraded from the ASUS G73. There was a small indent going into the keyboard, while this laptop's keyboard has no indent. The indent actually allowed me to use a mouse on the laptop very well which was very useful for using the laptop on couches or beds. It doesn't work as well now. But the only reason I needed a mouse was because my touchpad was broken on the G73 so it doesn't really matter.

Obviously the laptop is heavy but you won't find a light gaming laptop that's efficient.

I sometimes seem to miss a key every now and then. This happens once every five hundred words I type. It's not a big deal at all because I type very fast and make a number of mistakes when I type too fast, but it's noticeable that I sometimes miss a key. I could have sworn that I typed it. I do not know if this is a hardware problem or a human error problem. It is most likely human error because it never occurs when I try to catch it occurring. Minimal problem, but I want to note every possible problem that I find. **NOTE** I don't know why, maybe I got used to the laptop but I no longer miss any keys. Guess it was my problem after all.

The bottom of the laptop comes directly out while the G73 had a small slant. The corner of the laptop digs into your hands a bit unless your arms are higher than the laptop (which mine aren't).

I frequently accidentally open the disk tray. It's not a big deal but it happens often because of where it's positioned and the sensitivity of the button. Other people run into this problem too so it's not just me.

None of these cons matter to me at all. I knew what I was getting into with the weight, and the bloatware can be deleted and never dealt with again so that doesn't matter either. As such, I will still give this laptop 9 / 10. It would have been 10 if the laptop was a bit thinner, and if the custom keys were truly customizable. It would be great if I could edit the recording software key and make it launch my own software, and make the steam key launch the desktop version of steam. The ROG key could be used to change performance levels or to simply be another macro key.

Been a few days since i got this beast. I was lucky not to get a defective piece like many people seem to have gotten. This is the best laptop in this price range for the GPU it provides. WOW. I upgraded to this from my 5 year old Dell Inspiron...so i was pretty much blown away.

    Pros:

    - Fantastic Screen. There is no doubt that this is the best screen in the market. IPS screen at 1080p on a 17.3 inch screen. LOVE!!
    - Smooth. The games run easily. Far Cry 4 runs smooth as butter * looks gorgeous. On almost full settings
    - Zero heating. It runs like ice.
    - Upgradable. Have a 1 TB HDD and will soon upgrade with a 256 GB SSD costing $100.
    - Love the M1, M2 & M3 keys. Use it to open chrome and other apps.
    - The red keyboard looks great and feel great while typing.

    Cons:
    - The laptop is heavy as hell. Yes its expected so this is a very small con, only for people was think that it wont be heavy, believe me its heavy.
    - The power brick. Its as big as my Kindle. What the hell ! I was shocked when i first saw it. Its extremely big and quite heavy too. Big problem if you want to roam around with it.
    - Windows 8.1. This is a disaster coming from 7. I hate it with all my heart.
    - Sometimes it lags a little. But rarely and only for a sec.
    - Fingerprint magnet. The entire case is rubberized and from the minute you touch it, it will be covered with fingerprints. Its a shame because i quite like the black on it.
    - Useless Steam & Asus ROG center buttons. Even the recording button is a waste atleast for me.

All in all, for the price, it is the best laptop you can get. Games like a god, and looks quite good.

I never gave a review on any electronic devices, so this is my first time. I am so excited to own this laptop. I was always impressed by ASUS Republic of gamers line of laptops for complete use of office, entertainment, and gaming (what not?). Especially with all the reviews online, I knew this was the right one to get.
I'm just going to dive in to the main features, feel free to comment, like, suggest or ask me anything about it or related to it. will be glad. :)

Starting with its design and exterior looks, this laptop is just beautiful with its keyboard lighting, that helps you find your keys, esp. ASDW which is very important to a gamer. The typing is smooth, I already played some hardcore games (which is listed in the end), almost thinking I destroyed the keys, but it is so perfectly designed and spaced, for you fingers to move around, for both gaming and typing fast.
Similarly, the touchpad is just smooth, with so much surface area, to move across the screen/click on anything. Love it.

Speed: With 16GB of DDR3 RAM, it boots in less than 15 seconds to the desktop already (imagine how fast with an SSD, then?) with a startup of at least 10 applications. Never have I seen something that fast. Even while browsing, running multiple tabs, playing many youtube videos in 1440p HD videos so smoothly. While browsing, through both chrome and explorer, it has been super fast, with its wireless type - 802.11 A/C, I am getting around 60 Mbps as download speed when my wifi server provides only 50.

The Screen: Just amazing, with the IPS panel, no glare, full HD clarity, amazing viewing angles, with 17.3 inches and 1920X1080 resolution, it couldn't get any better!! No joke, watching all tv shows, and movies on this laptop, and suddenly switching to my old lenovo or anything lower than this clarity, it just hurts your eyes, lol. NOTE: The screen quality is so good, that the last time I saw something this good is with the latest MAcbook pro which has the retina display, so yea, it is as equivalent to that.

It comes with 4 USB ports 3.0, 1 VGA port, 1 HDMI, 1 Thunderbolt, 1 microphone, 1 headphone Jack, 1 DVD multi recorder.

The camera has got around 1.2 MP with HD feature( which is absolutely enough and more I believe for skyping)

The Vents right at the back, for both the GPU and CPU respectively, is perfectly placed, which is very important for gaming and heat issues.

I also used Unigine Valley 1.0 to benchmark my results (Do check the screenshot for it here) For now the game results are:

Titanfall: 40-50 FPS, so smooth, I played like 2 hours continuously, with the temperatures still remaining at around 45 deg celsius, (which is not bad, I believe, anything less that 65 deg celcius, your gig is then running fine!) Oh and about the game, I am no expert, but it just blew me, with the advancement of technology used in the game, there is no way you can stop playing this online game, absolutely fun with the titans and insane graphics, especially on a dream machine like this. :)
FIFA 14: Just so realistic and beautiful playing this game. (can't imagine how it would be playing FIFA 15 then.) I got it for a higher range: 70-75 FPS range (since its not as demanding as titanfall, I believe), sometimes it dropped to 60-65 FPS when I played seasons with online friends (due to different internet speed are ports when playing online, I believe), but still not lagging at all even when it drops, which is just amazing.
NFS RIvals: Trust me, not a racing fan, but this is one of the best NFS released in the recent years, and it is plainly just amazing, you wont stop driving and racing around in so good clarity and background. Again, not even a glitch or lag, I got continuous 30-40 FPS on this too, playing it with my wireless 360 controller. I believe the game can go higher with the FPS, but its a game I got from torrents, and from reading the reviews since the update and patch wasn't the latest, there were chance of locking it to 30FPS.
CS:GO: Counter strike, well, might be wondering what's the deal in graphics here, but trust me, this is one of those CS gamess, where you get everything from 1.3,1.5 and 1.6 all in advanced and remastered edition that should just blow all CS fans and without a doubt the best CS game right now. It did give me a lot of memories playing good old maps such as assault, nuke, and de_dust2. :) It does have a lot of graphic options, in which I got around 250 FPS while playing it on complete high, which I have no clue how that happened, maybe a glitch. I turned it all down from high to ultra settings, and the FPS came back to 65-70, which was still smooth and really hard to tell the difference.
Tomb Raider: Like Titanfall, this game did make me nervous too, with the amount of texture, and details option, I still turned everything ultra and maxed out settings, and to my surprise I was still playing it smoothly, although the temperatures were a little bit higher than the other games. :)

    Cons:
Not a lot, but definitely the weight of the laptop, weighing 8.4 lbs (almost 4kg), it might be a little burden to carry around, but can get used to it.
The speaker sounds are not all that great, but decent enough for songs and videos. :)
The battery is built in, and I have tested around 2 hours and 30 minutes roughly to use it continuously for watching videos, using MS office, and other applications, all unplugged. :P :) !!

So far, three days, I was only able to try these many games(wanted to do more).

Thank god. :)

Do check out the photos. Thanks for reading. :) :)

An extremely powerful machine capable of high end gaming. Had problems when delivered. The product had display issues. When i called technical support, they were swift to respond and sent a guy to collect immediately. I received the laptop back with that week with no problems whatsoever. Apart from its amazing looks, the laptop is very susceptible to fingerprints and smudge marks which gets rather annoying. Battlefield 4 and FarCry4 runs at nearly 90 fps which is surprising.. and Grid: Autosport is a joy to watch and play. All in all, this gaming notebook(or a tank i must say) is a good alternative to Alienware, MSI, Razor and other reputed brands. Good to see ASUS amongst that list.
Reduced a star because i received a defected piece.
