New York Times and USA Today Bestseller
Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master's degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it's to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D'Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he's had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women--especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She's stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone's front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

Review

"Suddenly Royal put a smile on my face and kept one there long after finishing it. It has everything I want in a good book: a strong and witty protagonist, a swoony male lead, smoking hot chemistry, and superb storytelling. Suddenly Royal is a must read."
-Nicole Williams, New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of CRASH and CLASH

"Sam is a modern woman whose sass, wit, and humor instantly makes you identify with her and root for her happiness. Their chemistry was red hot from the beginning, and I particularly loved the slow, sweet build. By the time these two got together, my heart was racing for them and I just may have been doing a little happy dance! Suddenly Royal introduced a world of authentic characters I cannot wait to read more about."
-Liz Reinhardt, author of Double Clutch, Junk Miles, Slow Twitch, and Fall Guy.

"Suddenly Royal is an exciting fairytale come to life, complete with a sexy romance, crown jewels and a devilishly handsome prince. This book will sweep you off your feet and leave you wishing for a prince of your very own."
-Angie Stanton, author of Rock and a Hard Place and Snapshot

From the Inside Flap

EXCERPT:

"So, what are you doing after this?" I looked at Alex, curious. I tried to squash the hope that was bubbling in my stomach. Being around him made me feel like I wanted more.

"Well, that depends. I have some phone calls to make and we were invited to dinner at the mayor's house, but I have a few hours free." He shook the ice in his cup before taking another sip. "I'd like to see your birds. I have to admit, I miss being around them when I travel."

"Well, you're welcome to come with me but it's going to be pretty cold. And there will definitely be people there." I looked around the room. "I don't know how we got lucky for lunch. Normally everyone is here about this time."

"Lucky that you got me all to yourself?" Alex smiled and my face turned beet red.

"I just meant that Mary wouldn't have left you--I mean us--alone with all her questions." Good Lord, I was going to inflate his ego to unbearable proportions if I wasn't careful.

"A man named David sent everyone out of the office. I think he was worried about this Mary, too."

"Mary isn't a bad person; she just takes some getting used to." I shook my head. "I've known her for two years now and she still shocks me."

"I'm glad it worked out this way. I've been trying to figure out a way to spend some time with you since you turned me down for drinks last night. Free time is often hard to come by." Little creases of amusement appeared at the corners of his eyes as he laughed at my expression. "From the shock on your face, I can tell I wasn't being obvious enough."

"I just thought you were being polite." I looked down at my food and tried to calm my racing heart. His warm fingers lifted my chin so that I was looking him in the eye. His face had turned very serious, his eyes intent.

"Wanting to spend a few hours getting to know a beautiful woman isn't about being polite." His thumb ran over my bottom lip and my breath stuttered. "I shouldn't chase you, Samantha, but I'm not sure I can help myself."

I didn't know what to say. Why shouldn't he chase me? Because I'm from diluted nobility? Or because I have enough going on to keep me busy? Did I want him to chase me? I did and I didn't. I wanted him, the man staring at me right now. But I didn't want what that included: the cameras, the politics, and who knows what else.

Suddenly Royal is a delight!

Suddenly Royal is a delight!
Suddenly Royal is a novel I ran into while cruising through a billion pages of book covers on Amazon. I just finished reading and it’s fresh in my mind so let’s hit it.Overall Read or Don’t Read: READStar Rating: 7Content: Adult material, but I didn’t feel like I needed a bath to get the grime offNON SPOILER REVIEWSuddenly Royal is a feel good read that has enough interesting twists to keep you interested but not biting your nails in a frenzied excitement kind of read. If you want to kick back with some hot cocoa and just read something nice, this is your book. I genuinely enjoyed it. Suddenly Royal has a fun “falling in love” feel to it. If you liked “The Princess Diaries” but wished it had a more grown up feel, Suddenly Royal is exactly that.SEMI SPOILER REVIEWSamantha is the main girl in this novel and she didn’t make me too nuts. Essentially she is Suddenly Royal! Her long lost family held an estate in another country and fled during unstable political times generations back. The status of her family was kept secret and with her only known blood relative dead, Samantha has no idea she is a duchess. Samantha must travel back to her home country and claim her status and position. She of course travels with a Prince who happens to be…her age…single…sexy…and totally into her. Some of the perfect set up is a bit cheesy, but that’s why we love these books. If the prince was her age and single but had a layer of unidentifiable grime on his teeth and a super high voice it wouldn’t work at all. Luckily Alex (the prince) is tall, blonde and confident in an annoyingly magnetic way. Their romance throughout the book kind of went like this… wait, wait…BAM.Female leads often make me wish them dead and Samantha only had one area that made me feel, not like I wanted her dead, but more like she needed to be slapped. She want’s to pursue Alex, but keeps holding back because dating a prince has a lot more to accept than just the man. The public knowing your every move and pressures about getting married or the opposite and the pressures of knowing you can never be together forever can be a lot to handle. Instead of talking like an adult to Alex who is completely open to chatting, she just doesn’t say anything. Then when she decides to go for it, she goes from silent to naked. There was never a two minute conversation where he could calm her nerves and things could go naturally. It was like she thought they had to be purely friends or in bed. No in between. Just say it! Repeat after me Samantha “Hey Alex I do really like you, sorry I’ve been such a preschooler. I know you’ve been coming onto me but how exactly would things work? Are we even allowed to date? Can we take it slow, and what about that pesky thing about you becoming a king?” It’s okay to have these conversations ladies.Alex stayed wonderful throughout the book. He didn’t lose his mysterious allure like some male characters do. I still have a bit of a literary crush going on.Supporting character were great! I love a good gay butler type. The best friend was fun and balanced. Samantha’s step dad was super cute. Supporting characters are the sign of steady book to me.Side notes:-Bathtub sex. I know they said the bathtub was large but come on. I just can’t see it working. Even pool sex is difficult and that’s a heck of a lot larger than any bathtub…even a prince’s.- I was under the impression this was a trilogy…so sad when I went to buy the next book and it was a spinoff on the sister character. I just wanted to read about the next phase. Being royal, having babies etc.- The author’s style was great. Easy to read, lovable characters. You haven’t seen the last of me Nichole Chase!

Samantha is a graduate student -wildlife biologist specializing in raptors. She is a hard worker with a quick sense of humor. She finds out that she is long lost royalty from Lilaria. In walks gorgeous, sexy Prince Alex. Instant attraction.
She travels to Lilaria where she is thrust into a world of demanding photographers, appearances, and lots of political and social demands on her time.
Alex and she develop a friendship and romance. The book spends quite a bit of time talking about the public demands of her new role, the attraction between the two, other character development.

I enjoyed reading about the growth of their relationship. "meeting" new characters was fun. They were interesting and helped to develop Sam and Alex's characters as well. My favorite is Chadwick, Sam's personal assistant. He's funny, sassy and intelligent. He almost can carry a book by himself.

The description of the country is believable. All of Sam's various 'meet and greets' make you like her character more and more.

The H&h do not fall into bed together until 77% of the book. I didn't mind that at all. I think there are two or three steamy scenes and that's it.

I gave this book 5 stars for what it is.
A straight forward, easy to read, quick to read, light hearted (no angst, no broken people, no major villains, no major plot twists, no major misunderstandings, no stupid mistakes) with a happy ending. No cliffhanger. Light epilogue.

I enjoyed the dialogue between all the characters. The author has a couple of scenes where they are eating and chatting. It was enjoyable and continued character development.

You can see how they are falling in love. How they respect and compliment (as in ying and yang) each other. They are supportive, kind, intelligent and have great chemistry together.
I can see how some people may find this book boring if you need more excitement, angst or plot twists.
But if you want easy, breezy - this is a great, cute, sweet, romantic book.

By the end - I was so excited for the Sam and Alex to be together. I like their personalities and how they respond to situations. No histrionics, no accusations or assumptions. Just a slow growing, passionate affection for each other. You can see them growing old together.

There is cute snappy dialogue and in general, I liked the flow of the book.

Will definitely re-read this book again when I need a quick little pick me up.

Enjoy!

Samantha, a snarky wildlife biology grad student, is thrown for a major loop when visiting royals comes to tell her that she's actually a wealthy heiress and a duchess in the tiny country of Lilaria. One of the visiting royals is Prince Alex, an amazingly hot dude who instantly takes to her. She's thrown for a loop because Alex and his aunt want to take her back to Lilaria to see her lands and officially accept her title, but she doesn't want to leave her ailing father or her studies. After a lot of consideration (and some steamy kissing from Alex), she decides to go back, but warns Alex that they can only be friends as she's overwhelmed by her new status and scared of getting her heart broken.

First of all, I have no idea how I found this book, but it's been on my Kindle wishlist for awhile. When I saw it for $1.99, I went for it...and I'm really glad I did. Guys, I had SO much fun reading this book - I stayed up way too late two nights in a row because I just wanted to sink into the book. This is the kind of book you read when when things aren't going so great in your life, and you really need a fairytale. Everything is fast-paced, and the dialogue just whips out zingers at you.

Samantha is smart, sassy, pretty hilarious, and definitely a heroine you can root for. My favourite part about her is that you really believe that she doesn't care about being royal. She hates dressing up, and REALLY hates the media attention that she gets from deciding to take up her title. What she does care about is her family, her studies, and her heritage, and it's awesome to see how deeply ingrained those facets are in her.

The other thing I really liked about the book was how much emphasis there was on the insane media/paparazzi, and the honest portrayal of the "job" of a royal. Samantha's title includes land holdings, but also a sort of caretaker status for the village around her. And because she's also a royal, she does a lot of media appearances, which she finds boring at first, but slowly comes to realize the importance of her standing and how her influence can be used for good. I felt like the author did an amazing job of explaining her roles and Sam's frustrations and determinations.

Speaking of her frustrations, if there's one criticism I have of the book, it's the reasoning behind Sam not wanting to get together with Alex. Her issues are that he's a royal and she's not, and eventually, he's going to leave her for someone else so he can take on the crown. But the thing is, Sam *is* royalty, even if she doesn't believe it herself. That said, Sam is definitely scared of being heart-broken, and it's obvious that the conflict runs deeper than that. The problem was that the author had made her so brave about everything else that I felt like that conflict was a bit manufactured. I would have preferred to stick with the secondary conflict of Sam adjusting to her new life.

That said...it's a minor annoyance when you consider what it builds up to...

Bonuses:

Sexytimes: Holy geez, guys. I'm fanning myself just thinking about this book again. There is a TON of sexual tension in this book. It's like, the foreplay of a century. And the payoff...even though I'm fairly new to the romance genre, my opinion is that this book delivers on the sexytimes tenfold - more so than any other romance I've read.

Hot Guys: I can't get into this without talking about Prince Alex. He's about ten times more swoon-worthy than I expected him to be - not only is he sexy and smoldering, but he's also funny, caring, and completely smitten with Sam. He's the ultimate fantasy guy...and because of that, I both loved him and didn't love him. I felt like he was just a SMIDGE too perfect, you know? I can't think of a single thing he did wrong in the entire book, and that kind of made him not as authentic to me. That said, like I said, if you're looking for a fairytale...

The Language of Love: Speaking of perfection, can I just say again that Nichole Chase NAILED it when it came to dialogue, both of the sassy variety and the romantic variety? Even though I found Alex a bit too perfect, his romantic voice was SO REAL. In fact, some of the things he said are things my husband has said to me - at times, it actually felt like she was pulling from his brain, and it made the dialogue that much more real to me.

The Final Word:
Billed as The Princess Diaries for adults, Suddenly Royal is a very entertaining, very addicting read. You will either love it or hate it - if you hate it, it will be because it's just a little too predictable. But if you're looking for a beach read or a guilty pleasure like I needed, you'll love it because it does exactly what you expect it to do. It's an adult romance that hits all of the right notes and leaves you wanting more of Alex and Sam.

I ended up reading this delightful series backwards. Picked the third one up in a bookstore, read the back and thought interesting I'll buy the two they have. Really enjoyed the characters and how they intermingle through the series. As much as I like the convenience of my Kobo and now Kindle, an actual bookstore and the physical books cover is what sold this series. None of the bookstores near me had Suddenly Royal so I was thrilled that I could order the book through Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favourite adult fairytale
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 13, 2013
I don't read a lot of romance, but I'm glad I got this one, it's my new favourite happy ever after.

Overall, the book is well written, no distractions from typos or bad grammar. Characterization is good, the plot is almost believable, and it's full of feel-good emotions. I laughed out loud, I cried, and I rooted for Samantha and Alex from the start. Refreshingly, there were no tedious love triangles, no conspicuous plot devices, and the angst was kept to a minimum. Basically, girl meets boy, girl's life changes, boy is supportive, girl's father dies, boy is even more supportive, they get together, and pretty much everything is shiny and happy.

It does contain a few sex scenes, so don't read it if you don't like that kind of thing. Personally, I thought the sex was extremely well written, passionate, and necessary to the plot.

I'll be keeping this one to read again when I need cheering up, and I'll definitely consider other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Von der Biologiestudentin zur Herzogin
